    Wow, you may just have posted the video that may change my life drastically. I suffer from severe sleep apnea (36 epm) and invariably around 3 am I start to have a lower pulse and my throat starts closing more and I need more pressure but my machine is the black one (airsense 10) hence it doesn't ramp up in time and I've been functional but certainly not refreshed and properly rebooted in the mornings for literally decades. I work for a startup software fintec and I am considering this. This video illuminates the way to get a machine that may very well help me get better sleep and since I can't afford that AirCurve ASV machine I think you may just have produced the most significant video on youtube I have EVER watched. I hope you do make a howto video, even if its a silent one under a new account made under vpn, this could change my life and many others. For those without severe sleep apnea I know I sound completely OVER the top, but guys like me didn't get a good night sleep in decades so forgive the enthusiasm.

    I have disassembled both the Resmed Airsence 10 CPAP, and the Aircurve 10 BiPap. Looks like every component is identical including the motor and circuit boards. They just unlock specific modes in the firmware for the type of machine, and change the name of them.

      @@jeffreylylemason At the moment there is no tutorial because it’s not fully proven that it works on all devices. Airbreak is a patch and it needs to stay this way. The resmed firmware is owned by resmed which is why no firmware dumps can be uploaded it’s illegal to do so and will jeopardise the hard work the Airbreak team put into developing the jailbreak. Resmed will hunt anyone down who decides to upload it and they have every right to do so. But you are allowed to dump your own copy of the firmware run the patch yourself and upload it to your device. It’s worth to note that all modes with in the patch are a stripped out version due to the flash memory only being 1 mb in size on some devices. There are a lot of setting that are missing from each mode but the main functions of each mode work. I might do a video on how to patch the firmware and the easiest way to do so but as for copyright of the firmware I’ll leave that in your hands

  • @marksnell4321

    I've seen this done by a ResMed engineer. However it should be noted that a true ResMed bipap model doesn't have AutoSet or AutoSet For Her modes (unless you've unlocked some kind of test system mode). Also there is a bipap model that has double the amount of RAM on-board. I do believe it's for the ASV model which runs the more complex of therapy modes.
    Also the other hidden costs for bipap devices is the more stringent regulatory requirements that the device must conform to. You can see some of that in such minor detail as the bipap DC power cable which has a retaining clip.
    My understanding is that this process was used on the S9 models and undoubtedly will be used on the AirCurve 11 bipap models. We probably won't see any of the AirCurve 11 Bipap models until later next year as they'll have to go through a 510(k) pre-market submission, which I've been told, at best takes 6 months. I can see ResMed wanting to fast track this development so as to take advantage of Philips' woes at the moment. The prospect of this has seen the stellar rise of the RMD share price over the past few months.
    It should be noted that turning your AirSense 10 into a bipap machine has absolutely no therapeutic advantage for an OSA sufferer, in fact it could be detrimental for your treatment. Bipap machines treat non-compliant OSA and the more serious respiratory disorders.

    Thank you mate! I recently undertook the conversion and posted earlier how it didn't work. Well I actually found the solution to my problem and it came from another video you made! Thank you so much for your assist!!! During my first go around, I accidentally nudged the motherboard a bit and caused the pressure sensors to not get aligned with the rubber plugs. This caused my machine to go on the fritz!. it just started going berserk! After I saw your video on the motor replacement on the s9 you specifically made mention to make sure you align the pressure sensors when fitting the motherboard back into the housing. Well just by chance I was looking at the rubber pieces and they were not connected to the sensor. Nudged it back and there ya go! perfect as a resmed should be! Thank you again so very much! I deleted my original comment cause I didn't want to scare people from experimenting. THANK YOU!!!! Looking forward to your next video. Love the accent btw. :)

And as soon as the Phillips recall hit, the cost went even higher. The cheapest ASV machine I found was $3450.US! Still curious as to what Phillips is going to do for me and all the BiPap/ASV folks.

    I also understand that the ResMed 10 units can all go to 30 cm H2O, but are limited via the Firmware. Hence why some of the effectively identical ResMed AirCurve 10 units do go to 25 cm H2O, using the exact same Pump Unit and Plumbing. Indeed, both Models could hit 30 if it were allowed by the Firmware. I do appreciate this is primarily a design overhead so both can function long term at their permitted pressures

    Complex sleep apnea = ASV, Adaptive Servo-Ventilator. Been using one for 9 years. First one purchased in 2012 was $9000. Slightly less in 2019 for my second ASV since technology advances has brought the price down slightly..

    The huge price differences are a concern.
    In the smartphone analogy you gave you'd expect to pay more for a better phone with a better camera or screen or whatever. As a consumer you CHOOSE which phone you want and pay the price if you agree to it.
    With PAP machines you are prescribed a machine, there is no "choice" being made. Essentially people with certain health conditions pay more for a device to help them. Insurance may cover the cost or may not. Given the hardware is identical the huge price differences are not justifiable. It's not the same as different medical conditions requiring different treatments. The "treatment" from a PAP machine is identical from the patients perspective.
    As you have said in the past Nick the algorithms aren't that great anyhow, there is a lot of room for improvement.

    I knew this was the case when they offer EPR on the standard autoset.
    The retail prices you quote are not consistent with what resmed sell them for online. The Bipap machines go for $2800 if my memory serves me correct and a autoset is $1800.
    I guess they also build into the cost warranty recovery because if you're making the motor ramp up and down fast it's going to add more stress.

    • @jorisbonson386
      @jorisbonson386 2 года назад

      Yep it's the ASV machines that would be closer to the 8k AUD mark if anything. Motor stress difference is negligible.

    You ought to be more upset about Aussies getting ripped off outrageously. In the US, an Airsense 10 auto CPAP retails for US$969 and the BiPAP for US$1250. Either the manufacturers are screwing you, or the chemists, or the government (by imposing rules that somehow cause these price differences.)

    • @CPAPReviews
      @CPAPReviews  3 года назад +33

      I'm been furious at this for ages mate! ResMed even put a block on Aussies importing devices from the U.S to avoid the extortion. ResMed even blocked the sale of devices online here in Australia to try stop online discounting. That online ban which is still upheld by our ACCC cpap.review/resmed-online-sales and that is ban is still around although no longer enforced as ResMed now sells direct to consumer through their own e-commerce store. They also heavily discount on that store competing directly with their resellers yet still charging resellers based on the full retail prices. What's even worse is that we manufacturer them here too! So they build it here, ship it all the way over to the U.S and then sell it for 1/3 the price. It's a circus mate. Cheers

      I assume it's Resmed itself preventing American suppliers from selling directly to them. We pay more in Canada as well (although not as high as Aussies.) Resmed will no longer allow American suppliers to ship us either Resmed machines or masks. (I've been told this by a major American supplier.) We hsve to buy them from Canadian sources & as a result, we pay more.

    • @CPAPReviews
      @CPAPReviews  3 года назад +1

      Yep the insurance providers certainly have a lot to do with it as that is the bulk of their business and also they have to be competitive when competing for the insurance contracts although the only two companies that get them are Philips and ResMed and you know they're both in bed together so i imagine they have some 'agreements' not to compete to hard on those contracts etc. They probably have a good 50-50 split i imagine. They mentioned the developers Github that does the breakdown but that left more questions on where to source a patched or modded firmware than answers, mostly because they haven't updated or expanded on the project. If you have a file you could share it would save alot of time trying to get an actual unit to source it from. Obviously at my own risk.

    Is VENTMED A copy OF RESMED, or does VENTMED manufacture RESMED machines. Ie VENTMED Dream Space DS-6 CPAP, DS- 7 BIPAP, DS-8 BIPAP AUTO (around US$400 from China). The plastic and switches are like Resmed machines and the screen is the same. I've been using it for last three months with the Philips mask (which cost in Australia half the price of the BIPAP machine. The Bipap machine comes with a full face mask, but it is inferior to the Philips).
