I would say yes. They have been linked for a very long time. The reggae fundamentals are found within the Nyahbinghi drumming. Called the one-two beat or the "heartbeat". Which is found in all reggae: roots, ska, dancehall and so forth This goes back 1000's of years.
+Luther Williams I think you're a bit confused. +Jah Mark distinctively speaks about Nyahbinghi drumming which is 'one-two' beat. The 'one drop' beat was something Bob Marley and the Wailers popularized. 2 different things.
he's right about Jamaicans complaining lol.... many island-born Jamaicans don't seem to appreciate how rich their culture is, not all, but many. I always hear some Jamaicans whine and scoff at African roots, at culture, at drumming, at hair, at skin tone, at the beauty of their island, at everything beautiful that they already have and that contributed to the power of reggae... then moan and complain when outsiders outright COPY it and adulterate it... well hello, there'd be no opportunity for cultural theft if you protected, promoted, uplifted, defined, enshrined and improved your culture... The world took Bob Marley and ran because Jamaicans weren't embracing him and building on him enough. Even today, most reggae is artificially flavored (what happened to playing guitar, bongos, and singing?)Chronixx is taking what's beautiful and iconic about Jamaica and serving it up with authenticity and a modern twist. Real music, not just riddims with dead melodies with uninspired rapping over it. His music videos are putting a proper image of what Jamaica's image in the global media should be like and should embrace. Beautiful conscious melanated women, tropical environment, healthy living... He's doing what few are willing to do and that's change the consciousness from within to reflect on the real world. Jamaica should not be known for or promoting drugs, violence, skin bleaching, wigs, or crime. It should be known for and promoting its deep thinkers, the best music in the world, best food and coolest vegans in the world, fit beautiful sun-kissed people, artists of great talent (Kokab, EyeDealist, etc) writers (Gladstone Taylor, Marlon James), women with talent and real healthy hair (Sevana, Jah9, Mamayashi, surfers (the Wilmot family).... the lists are endless. Great interview.

Loved every moment of that interaction with Chronixx. His mannerism, so at ease with himself and confident in a real rasta man kinda way.....not hyped nor showy...and he smiles, often:)Continue being an original and keep doing it for the love, not the likes!

Is Rastafari essential to Reggae music?
I would say yes. They have been linked for a very long time. The reggae fundamentals are found within the Nyahbinghi drumming. Called the one-two beat or the "heartbeat".
