No music, no inane commentary. What an excellent animation. Really helped me to visualise the whole expedition. Next time you see the speck of Mars in the night sky just imagine that this machine is there and working away as you look at it. . For once we can truly say "awesome". It really is.
Gribbo9999 I enjoy this stuff too It’s too the point Not like SpaceX where they shove in as much rediculous cinematic music It’s space travel not a movie
Funny that it enters the Martian atmosphere looking somewhat as how old sci-fi fantasy would depict a flying saucer from Mars. This is gorgeous animation, inspiring work :)
Obviously, this is an animated video, but you have to give it up to science and NASA for making this happen. The Mars Curiosity mission is an ongoing testament to human ingenuity. It's nice to see technology being used for something other than killing people in the Middle East. Thumbs up on the video btw.
Great anmation, and I'm so happy and proud for the engineers that worked it out. I can't get my thermostrat right, and these people are pumping out Wall-E's to Mars.
Osirise81 I don't know code, I'm just referencing what JPL says. A few hypotheses I can make as to why an atmospheric plane needs orders of magnitude more lines of code than a planetary rover is that there are far more variables traveling through a thick atmosphere than (I'm guessing there would be) in interplanetary space. JPL's 500k estimate could just be specifically for the EDL (entry, descent, landing) portion of its mission, affectionately referred to by EDL engineers as "7 Minutes Of Terror".
Osirise81 Simplifying the code as much as possible is definitely important, because when you're in space, or on another planet, anything that goes wrong with the code could mean the end of the mission; game over. Whereas even on a high-tech plane, if the code goes wrong, you can override to manual controls and guide it to safety and repair it. Journey to the Moon, however, the Apollo Guidance Computer (AGC) was a 70 lb hunk of metal that had the capacity and power comparable to that of a modern pocket calculator.
I never realized how big the rover was until I just happened to come across a picture with the rover and a man standing next to it. It's roughly the size of a Mini Cooper which makes the launch and landing even more impressive.
NASA did really amazing job getting that rover down safely.... But what is even more surprising - he is not alone there.. Oportunity still is alive.. and that thing got down 10 years ago.... No chance to repair or clean solar panels... Now thats some serious quality of machines.. Cost a lot but is worth every cent..
Unless you transfer the Electromagnetic frequencies from objects such as stars and the other 7 planets into Radio Waves. Then, you will hear what a planet or star sounds like.
*@Milosz Ostrow* That's obvious.....you will have a day job pointing that out on most videos and movies that are out there....... even in scientific videos they use sound to point out certain occurances in space.....otherwise a movie or video might get somewhat boring.
AstronomyTheorist At RUclips Simulation game where you launch creatures emulating humans named "Kerbals". Lots to it and I recommend it if you are into astronomy.
AstronomyTheorist At RUclips Dont delete it! I suggest getting a type of Tekkit Minecraft mod pack. Im also very into astronomy but the type of tekkit pack I'm talking about give you the ability to go into space and build your own space station and includes with real-life items like the mars land rover!
This is the best digital video I've seen. Thanks JPL! Sad to say that this is America's last flagship mission. We are too broke to continue such things. Hopefully India and China will pick up the torch and carry on with it. There is so much to explore.
It's difference in cost is actually minimal. Once your in orbit around earth, %80 of the work is already done. Plus we've already been to the moon quite a few times. (And there's already a rover there :P)
+star_light There's several rovers on the Moon and we're not the only country with rovers there. Mars has more to offer us in terms of science and the pursuit of life outside of our planet. The rovers are seeking out evidence that life may and may-have existed on Mars. We know the Moon is a dead planet and there's little to gain from sending rovers there.
+star_light Like the others said, the moon is a dead, cold rock in space, while Mars has an atmosphere, has water, has all the basic buildings blocks that are needed to sustain life. Mars will be the first planet we terraform and colonize, if we don't blow ourselves up beforehand
YOU SEE I WAS ACTUALLY THERE AND I FILLEMD THE WHOLE THING BY MYSELF WITHOUT A SPACESUIT AND I USED A FALCOLN HEAVY TO LAUNCH ME THERE AND I HAD A SKYCRANE LOWER ME ONTO THE GROUND
Cool animation! I can't wait to see these robots work in the poles of the planet searching for water evidences. This could change everything and be the first step for human colonization.
+atsay714 It has a small RTG. Its a container filled with a radioactive material of some sort (I think Plutonium 238 in this case) that gives off heat as it decays. This heat is used to power the rover. Probes that flew far enough away from the Sun (so as to render panels useless) also have these.
Mars my arse. This is either an animated work done on Blender, IllusionMage or some animation software, or it is a test vehicle done on Earth. You can see the clouds in the sky. Clouds on Mars? lol. Earth has many dry places that resemble like Mars landscape. And... sure, sure, there must be air in space to hear sound of rockets and such. LMAO! But I like how they did the special animation, which is close to some Mars landscape.
Another NAZA hoax. There is video that shows the NASA logo with the wrong colors, when corrected the sky and clouds and planet become earth! NAZA bilks billions from tax payers to perpetuate the hoax so they can weaponize space and fund other secret military projects like project blue beam.
theoriginalmungaman I am not going to make another comment after this one. I know it is a forgery, a hoax, fake researches done here on Earth, costing billions, just so they can brainwash the public into believing these are actually on Mars, just like the 60's Apollo Moon landing hoaxes, all based on lies, computer generated scenes using Photoshop, Blender and crazy imaginations. I better say no more, as I already been told to stick my head up my ass. You can't argue with bullshit artists.
Pulling off this mission was outstanding, but so is the talent that produced this film. How else could we be in the front row seat ot the coolist scientific achevement to come along from man to date. I was totally captivated. thank you ......
congratulations NASA. An incredible mission. Can't wait to see what we find on the Red Planet. Here's hoping this will pave the way for future generations to venture forth & open our solar system to all manner of wonderful possibilities.
The animation here is overwhelming, but what makes it for me is the audio tracks. As a sound designer, I have to tell you this person knows what they are doing. A slight bit of delay, use of the stereo field and knowing when to slightly fade ion sound that in reality wouldn't give this a cinematic quality that keeps us entertained and focused on what would otherwise be some pretty boring stuff after awhile.
¡CONGRATULATIONS!The human`s mind, tecnology and the Suprem Mind in all its splendor. My best wish: peace and harmony among all the human family. Creativity, tecnology to get a better life for all human beengs and the Earth.

I'd just like to hear what everybody was thinking when the one scientist shouted "Let's use a sky crane!" It might have been the craziest pitch ever. Glad it worked, though.
And now Curiosity has discovered many things, such as an area where an aggressive stream of water used to flow. We know this because the pictures of the rocks the rover has sent us has water marks and signs of erosion.

Gribbo9999 hahahhaha you all Fucktard.. cant you seen its an animation..
3D have u heard about it 😂
u guys are idiots , illuminated , crap...
He even mentioned that it is an animation, can't you read? But the rover is there somewhere on the surface of Mars
Funny that it enters the Martian atmosphere looking somewhat as how old sci-fi fantasy would depict a flying saucer from Mars. This is gorgeous animation, inspiring work :)

I stand applauding the engineers of this mission. Bravo!
Great anmation, and I'm so happy and proud for the engineers that worked it out. I can't get my thermostrat right, and these people are pumping out Wall-E's to Mars.
Thanks for not using any background music and artificial sound effects. The lack of such makes this video just outstanding.
I still can't believe that worked.

Oh my gosh! Mars is an off-road paradise! Bring on the 4X4 trucks, dirt bikes, ATV's and dune-buggies!
I am wondering what type of people dislike this animation!
I'm aways amazed of what humans can do. I can't even imagine the amount of science in a achievement like that.
I don't even want to think about how many lines of computer it code it takes to launch, land, and operate the Curiosity Rover.
500,000 lines of code, actually, according to JPL.
Less than the lines needed to play KSP.
Uhm
Thanks a million for putting this up without any music or commentary! It has suddenly different mood to it.
we are the alien
super cool video, NASA is great
This is world...😀
Tharunes Tharun like this
Indonesia...hay....nice to meet you
you very nice
Thanks
Your mind very good
I never realized how big the rover was until I just happened to come across a picture with the rover and a man standing next to it. It's roughly the size of a Mini Cooper which makes the launch and landing even more impressive.
You are telling me that an extraterrestrial shot this movie??
It's an animation of what it'd look like.
*@Jose A Ortiz* Yeh......what of it ?.......got issues with that ..? 👆🏻🤖
There is no sound in the vacuum of space.
***** I was commenting on the scenes of the spacecraft in transit between Earth and Mars.
Unless you transfer the Electromagnetic frequencies from objects such as stars and the other 7 planets into Radio Waves. Then, you will hear what a planet or star sounds like.
I don't think your statement is true . you should re phrase your statement
*@Milosz Ostrow* That's obvious.....you will have a day job pointing that out on most videos and movies that are out there....... even in scientific videos they use sound to point out certain occurances in space.....otherwise a movie or video might get somewhat boring.
An excellent animation of what the rover looks like and what it does. Phenomenal technology for now. Things will improve in the future.
I wish they'd make the sound realistic.
that is, no sound at all
+Jens Roth there would be absent sound once it was in the atmosphere.
a rover on mars and an artificial satellite to accompany it, just beautiful :')
the first bit reminded me of Kerbal Space Program.
AstronomyTheorist At RUclips Simulation game where you launch creatures emulating humans named "Kerbals". Lots to it and I recommend it if you are into astronomy.
AstronomyTheorist At RUclips but that's minecraft man. Look up Scott Manly and you will see kerbal space program. Im also into serious astronomy.
AstronomyTheorist At RUclips Dont delete it! I suggest getting a type of Tekkit Minecraft mod pack.
Im also very into astronomy but the type of tekkit pack I'm talking about give you the ability to go into space and build your own space station and includes with real-life items like the mars land rover!
theres a way to reinstall it.
Stop forcing people. Kerbal is far more realistic
Awesome Computer Graphics. Give a good idea of what sort of environment the real rover was in and appreciate the real photos even more.
HOW DID THEY GET THE CAMERA TO CATCH ALL THAT. WAS IT SEPARATE? ALIENS? ALAINS?!!!
CJB333 Most importantly, how can this video have 1m views when there are 69,000 people on Earth?
HOW COULD THERE BE 7m WHEN THE EARTH IS FLAT WOW READ A BOOK YOU KID
+CJB333 Just an Animation!
+Isaac Newton i expected more from you. of course it was the illuminati
+Micah Weber It was a joke ._.
This movie will inspire a generation of planetary scientists. Congratulations on a fantastic very complicated engineering feat!
Please send me to Mars.
thank you i will

I'm wondering that they sent many rovers to mars but why dont they send at least 1 land rover to the moon? and it costs much less than mars .

Later apollo missions included a Lunar Roving Vehicle on the lander that the astronauts would use to explore the landing site.
+star_light Because Mars can actually teach us things. The moon is basically nothing more than a big, dusty rock.
best mars video i ever seen LOVE IT !!!!!
This is just simulation.
NO, IT IS REAL, (I know, I filmed it!)
YOU SEE I WAS ACTUALLY THERE AND I FILLEMD THE WHOLE THING BY MYSELF WITHOUT A SPACESUIT AND I USED A FALCOLN HEAVY TO LAUNCH ME THERE AND I HAD A SKYCRANE LOWER ME ONTO THE GROUND
Cut this shit out and beat it from here you funny fuck
John Smith
Always amazing, how many times I watch it ! Thanks, JPL!
you know this is cgi ,right?
+T Cox what does movie means?
Really? I thought NASA bulit a second spacecraft that flew paralell to the rocket all the time. And landed another rover just to be able to film.:P
+Arc Kocsog I think the flying part that broke off is the extra camera man...
Everything NASA does is cgi.
👌👍
Cool animation! I can't wait to see these robots work in the poles of the planet searching for water evidences. This could change everything and be the first step for human colonization.
Its all a hoax! there wasnt any martians!
just kidding! please don't hurt me D:
As long you say just kidding, or ya gonna get another hole in ya.

Hmm ok...
HEY TANKS, CANCEL THE MISSION
Yes, you too maus tank

Martians dwell under the surface.
awesome animation, it get's you the feeling of viewing it live. i would assume it's nearly accurate?
good job!
that fuckin sound of the camera moving.......trauma
FANTASTIC VIDEO!
Where are the solar panels?
+atsay714 uses nuclear energy
Ridwan Fernini Wut? It has a nuclear reactor or something?

👌👍

Wonerfull!!!
Always U.S.A - The Best Country!!!!!
Thanks A lot to NASA !
Looks like Sci-Fi, but it actually happened!!! What an elaborate landing.
Made the more epic when you put music to this, by opening an epic piece in another tab. :P
A perfect display of human idiocy. Thank you.
Wow, love it, so many congrats dudes, wow humanity!
who cares how much we spend on this? these are awesome, next-level exploratory and groundbreaking technological advancements, and if you have a half a brain you can make it in life without worrying about how much NASA spends..I, for one, am infatuated with the possibilities here and the sheer "zero margin for error" nature of NASA in general..godspeed, Curiousity
You know how scary this thing would be if an alien species came and saw it? Very interesting video
I'm not sure what metals they use to create the rovers. However, as there is no oxygen or liquid water, the robots are free from the danger of rust. The biggest obstacle for the design of the robot is the solar panels. Mars is very windy and dusty, the solar panels on the rovers get dirty very quickly. This is why Curiousity uses P238.
The rovers transmit the images/results of experiments back to Earth. I believe it takes less than 15 minutes for Curiousity to send information back to us.

Oh, Paul, you're going to get a bit of grief for this! It will be amusing to watch.
Fantastic Video

Марс- теперь тебя увидел!Красивый Близкий Яркий-Лидер!
This was before it was launched. So good observation there Einstein.
that is awesome it really helped me with my project for curiosity and mars
Pretty impressive I must say!
greatest accomplishment the human being can do ! Using Physics and Math to calculate the distance and landing ! Amazing !

Caltec, ignore these idiots. Keep going and thank you for this video!
thanks bro, I almost thought this was computer animation.
It's really amazing !!
Looks like an awesome place to go riding. Minus all the dying and stuff.

Thats one of the most sensible comments here on utube :)
Lol Curiosity is so cute. He reminds me of Wall-E.
