      +Jack theripper NASA doesn't have the necessary funds to get man on Mars yet. Read into it, it's actually really interesting how far we still have left. We have no idea how to keep radiation out of a capsule of a spacecraft in space yet, we have no idea how to land anything over one ton on the surface of Mars (estimated 20 tons for all supplies needed for a colony). Not to mention we have no idea how to keep the astronauts alive that long ( testing a hypothesized MOXIE on next rover in 2020 that could be the answer). In all honesty NASA needs a larger budget. At only .4% national GDP they can only really do research and not execute things they really want to. They spend most of their budget on satellites.

    • @Avaruusnuija
      @Avaruusnuija 9 лет назад +3

      +Jack theripper It is because there's all kinds of treaties and such in place which state that space is "common heritage of mankind" and we shouldn't let people profit from space and stuff. That's the biggest thing slowing down our conquest of space. Watch a video from Vsauce called "Who Owns The Moon?" if you're interested.
      Also, like +Chris Yates pointed out, there's many things we still need to figure out. It'd help if NASA got a larger budget. Oh well, maybe some day when USA stops being silly and spends less on war.

How does the oxygen not equilibrate into to "space" like it naturally should? “Let’s imagine we’re all back in the cave, so go back into the cave. We’re sitting around the fire and somebody’s injured or has problems and someone says, ‘I want to go across the meadow to that mountain.’ Other people in the cave say, “No leaving the cave until we solve the cave problems first. We have to solve these first before anybody leaves the cave.”
      Tyson pauses for a second, and says, “That is clearly an embarrassingly short-sighted view for any community to have.” He points out that as “we are clamoring for resources on this speck we call Earth” or “fighting over a line in the sand where the buried energy sources are or access to resources that are dwindling,” people overlook how space can be a solution.
      “I look out in space with its limitless energy. And everything that’s rare on Earth-common in space,” says Tyson. “You know rare earth elements, you might’ve heard of them? There are asteroids where they are not rare. They’re common.”
      so, educate yourself before calling people who are at the frontier trying to improve the survival/sustainability of human species ''dumb''.

Let's say a large meteorite strikes Earth, terrestial ejecta fles into space and some of it, eventually, lands on Mars (my understanding is that that this much has probably already happened, in the past). All it takes, perhaps, is for the right bit of ejecta to contain a human skull..

It's annoying that our generation is just at the cusp of space exploration though, just think how much people will know about the universe in a couple of centuries, will make the stuff we are doing now look like childs play.
