- My Unpopular Rap Opinions III:
Music opinions. I have them, you have them, and some of the ones we have would be considered to be unpopular. And in this video, I'm gonna be sharing some of my own unpopular opinions with you guys for the third time!
Some opinions are easier to measure the popularity of than others, and with some you just have to go by what you generally see in online hip hop discussions, but I think I picked some pretty solid ones here. So what did I have to say about Nicki Minaj, Lil Uzi's Eternal Atake album, Kanye's Donda album and more? Well, this is CDTVProductions, and watch the video to find out!

Hot take: Beanie is better than the cap
I mean yeah, you killed him, remember?
cdtvthag would beat cdtvproductions in a boxing match 🚫🧢
Never sleep reaction?
Hate both tbh
your lyrics point makes complete sense. another example is Ski Mask, a lot of his music isn't him saying very deep stuff, but he clearly put effort and his own personality into his lyric writing.
he’s a great example too, his lyrics are definitely unique and it adds to his appeal a lot
I love Ski
this might be cheating because its old school rap but this is so true for people like eminem or nas who made a career off lyricism
Lyrics still matter, but clearly not as much as they once did
@@crimsonchin-zx6ineminem and Nas don't really do trap music
I usually don’t comment because I’m not sure if you read them or not, but I just want you to know I genuinely love your videos and I hope you stick around with this consistency! I know it’s hard
appreciate you my man! 🙏🏻
Your videos are great my guy keep grinding 💪🏾

@@Traceonyoutube YOOOO MY BOY
Donda came at such a pivotal time in my life, I was dealing with the same emotions Kanye was, I had just gotten out of a 5 year relationship and had no one to turn to. I had listened to that album start to finish time and time again and it helped heal me so much, I felt a part of me in every song on it. Whether that’s being grateful and excited for the future listening to Off The Grid, making bad choices while I was in denial (Jail) deep introspection with Jesus Lord, or even feeling heartbreak on Come to Life. The rollercoaster of raw emotion and spirituality leaves me no choice but to put Donda as my 2nd favorite Kanye album
I was also getting over of a 6 year relationship when donda came out. Hopeful everything is getting better for you
3 year here same thing
@@insideroutside thank you, it has gotten easier with time and I have definitely turned my emotion into self improvement and have been steady at that since, I hope it’s been an easier road for you
Unpopular EA take: I think "You Better Move" is actually alright. That pinball sampled beat hits hard, even if the lyrics were not good.
EA is a lot like WLR where if you go back to it a lot of songs are better than you remember
Same, when CDTV said that that song shouldn't have received the light of day, I was confused lmao
When I first heard EA that was my favorite song.. it just literally makes you wanna move and dance lol. It’s fun
Lol. "You Better Move" is one of my favorites from the project, but I understand why people don't like it. _Eternal Atake_ came out at a very specific time, right before COVID, that I look back on fondly: being at school with people I know, and such.
savage mode 2 as a top tier trap album is a w take. super excited for 21’s next project
Venetia from Eternal Atake is easily one of my favorite songs from 2020, that beat hits hard and the way he flows through his verses (especially during the start of that second verse) is so clean. I need to get more into Uzi but if Venetia is any indication, I'm going have a great time listening to him.
Celebration stations>
Preach, bro! That track is a standout.
Bigger than life is the best song on that album
chrome heart tags+prices> imo at least for me EA was rlly good and one of the best albums from 2020 easily along w like TLOP4 Deluxe from Pierre Bourne
Secure the Bag is also a banger
I LITERALLY WAS THINKING ABOUT A RETURN OF THIS SERIES!!!
alright got enough opinions written down in my notes for a part 4 😤💪🏻
1. I agree. I don’t think it’s completely irrelevant, but it’s more about how you say it rather than what you say. You can rap about typical themes but if you say them in a creative way or at least a catchy way then it works well. So basically I agree with you lol.
2. I’ve never been a huge fan of future but I also haven’t really dove into his discography too much, but based off of how I feel about him I think I would agree.
3. I definitely agree. It was such a beautiful experience and a near perfect listen for me. Yes I understand that there’s a ton of tracks but most of them really work for me, even the ones that people don’t like such as remote control. He was amazing as a curator, producer, and when he did perform he performed pretty well. On top of that it has a top 20 maybe top 10 Kanye song in heaven or hell.
4. I agree, I think she’s an insanely talented rapper but her material just doesn’t reflect that most of the time imo, especially this year. Do we have a problem was decent but she kept killing the momentum, the song with Fivio was just bad, so was bussin, and everything else I’ve heard this year from her has been subpar.
5. I agree, eternal Atake has grown on me a ton since I’ve first heard it. It has some of his worst tracks (pop, you better move, urgency,) but the highs on this album are insanely good. Prices, Futsal shuffle, I’m sorry, celebration station, bigger than life, baby Pluto are some of his best tracks.
5 for 5, let’s get it 😤🙏🏻 appreciate your thoughts on all of them too, my favourite type of comments are like this‼️
@@CDTVProductions I appreciate the content bro you’re one of my favorite creators
U dislike urgency? I honestly love that song, one of Uzi's best song imo, probably a top 5 Uzi song for me. I just love the vibes, it has a Light tone and its really atmospheric and relaxing. Also I think Uzi and Syd have great chemistry on that song.
@@YungBuckTheLabrat it's underrated but to be fair Uzi's vocal performance is not the best on that track, and i don't really care for Syd tbh
@@YungBuckTheLabrat I think it had potential and the general vibe was good but I didn’t like the performances from Uzi or syd
I don't really have that many unpopular opinions regarding rap, but I do have one that applies to all art INCLUDING rap. While it is important to change up your style and subvert expectations, some people take innovation too seriously, not EVERY artist or creator has to break new ground with every new project they release, they can play it safe every once in a while.
Seeing all of the old series return is a blessing
donda is gonna age so well it’s easily his most underrated album in his discog. almost every song feels like a movie
the same can be said for ea that a great uzi album and it’s his second best imo
It’s a new album. It’s can’t be underrated already. That doesn’t make sense.
Can't believe the hate on Donda I see.I get its bloated but I can hardly pick any song I'd wanna drop
His most underrated album is Ye tbh. Everyone knows Ghost Town is easily a top 10 Kanye song, but I genuinely believe that Violent Crimes and No Mistakes are almost on the same level as Ghost Town.
@@TheIcemanthomas its already a year old
I have never been more hyped up for a vid. The previous 2 vids were so entertaining to me that i replayed them numerous times even though i already knew the opinions. I believe the same will happen with this one
glad to hear it! i hope you enjoy this one just as much, even though there’s less opinions overall in this one 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Two things; we all need a vinyl of eternal Atake, that album was absolutely amazing, secondly, Young Jeezy - the recession is the best trap album of all time. Either that or T.I. vs TIP
Definitely agree about the trap albums. T.I. vs T.I.P. had banger after banger
🔥🔥🔥💯
Easily the best take on the "Do lyrics matter?" question. It seems like everyone on the Internet either falls into the "lyrics are irrelevant" or "lyrics are the only thing that matters" camps, and nobody is bothering to take the middle ground. And since this video used modern-day trap rappers to demonstrate this point, allow me to explain it in a way fellow old-heads with too much time on their hands might understand.
Lyrics are an essential aspect of the genre, but they aren't the only aspect. If they were, Snoop Dogg would've never taken off. His lyrics aren't anything special - just standard bars about sex, drugs, and guns - but his delivery, flow, and production are more than enough to keep people coming back to "Doggystyle". On the opposite end of the spectrum, MF Doom had bars, but his unorthodox delivery and bizarre production were major stumbling blocks for plenty of casual listeners.
However, that doesn't mean lyrics are totally irrelevant. Most pre-Rakim rap is basic, first-grade rhyming with lyrics that would get you laughed out of a cypher nowadays. And if it's not the wordplay that matters... Ice Cube is a great rapper, but I dare you to listen to "Black Korea" without cringing at the subject matter.
Bottom line - a rapper "not having lyrics" isn't a new phenomenon. Quite a few well-renowned classic rappers weren't particularly skilled in the lyrics department. So if you don't like a trap song (and there aren't any lyrics that stand out as particularly bad), the "no lyrics" argument isn't a particularly good one. Just say you think the production sounds cheap or that the rapper has low charisma. Or just listen to something you actually like.
I think the issues lies within people not understanding a lot of modern rappers too whether it be the effects or their lazy mumbled delivery, it doesn’t help
I’ve said for time Snoop wasn’t lyrical but he had that edge and character that personally I feel a lot of rappers miss these days
The problem with trap for me isn't lyrics, it's the production. To me at least, a great beat can save a so-so verse, but not the other way around. Something that I really don't like about trap is that every beat sounds similar, especially on percussion. It gets old, fast. That's why I prefer stuff like WLR over a lot of Future or Migos type tracks, because the "hypertrap" style on WLR is simply more inventive. Don't even get me started on Kanye, DOOM, Dilla, etc. The older, more sample-heavy kind of beats are what I personally enjoy a lot more than the more hollow sound of trap because those samples still carry a lot of soul and flavor than the trap style of today.
CDTV dropping another banger???? Man's had like 6 videos in the past 3 weeks, he been grinding lately
banger season‼️🔥
I agree with the nicki and EA take, don’t know why EA gets hate it’s such a vibe and lowkey told a great sorry
The whole time you were talking through the first one I was like YES. THANK YOU. 1000% TRUE. I think I commented something similar on the community post, but you put it way better.
Just keep dropping stuff like this it’s honestly great. I think you’ve got a large dedicated audience that is only going to grow. If you think you can do something better or you want to try something new then go for it but these videos right here are perfect as is
CDTV WITH CONSISTENT UPLOAD SCHEDULE KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK MAN 😤
Your DS2 take I can’t get with😭 Being in Atlanta when it dropped, I saw up close how influential and how much the album shaped and influenced the culture for years to come
Cdtv tha 🐐 been consistent recently🙏😤
Man this consistent content is great
I FULLY agree on the Kanye take. The album is just beautiful man.
facts, Come To Life alone is a spiritual experience
@@CDTVProductions Absolutely, people will call it bloated and I can see where they’re coming from, but when they list what tracks they would take out everyone’s picks are different. I think it has something in it for everybody
@@yesjamesin The problem with kanye is that he has so many great albums. I just can't put donda over TLOP,808s, MBDTF, yeezus, and the dropout series.
Appreciate the consistency cdtv!
im what some call a barb but I completely agree with the nicki thing I know she can do better especially when it comes to flows cuz that's what she's always been good at, anyways stream nickis new song on the 12th y'all.
CDTV be blessing our ass with uploads 🙏
Isaiah Rashad was my favorite TDE member when Kendrick was still there
Totally not biased
Strongly disagree on DS2. Imo, it’s up there with Rodeo and Astroworld. Top 5 fo sure
Terrible opinion
This biggest and one of the longest lasting issue in hip hop is that people associate lyricism with being deep or having a message or wtv. But to me someone who can make word plays or tell a story thru music would be a better lyricist
This is what I’ve been saying . For me personally, I feel whatever that artist is going through at the moment then I feel like the lyrics did their job. But if I can’t feel a single thing about the lyrics, then I just feel like that was a waste of time.
Donda has grown on me a lot since its release and I imagine it'll only continue to grow on me. It's not in my top 5 yet but it wouldn't surprise me if it eventually creeps its way up there.
man i missed this series glad it’s back
2:49 Bet Accepted. Make that a small segment or a whole video. Ppl would probably love that.
W consistency
Consistency is craaaazy keep going man
Hey bro love these just wish they was longer fr
Been on a solid upload schedule, noice
Sick vid Bah! But the real question now here is that ' WHEN IS THE IRN BRU REVIEW VIDEO' coming out????
The point you made about lyrics mattering is a good one too because I feel like peoples perception of it is that writing can only be clever if it’s about deep stuff which isn’t necessarily true. Some rappers write about frivolous things but do it in a clever and interesting way which makes it fun to listen to. Lyrics don’t have to have a deep meaning to be clever and well written.
Holy smokes, another CDTV upload? I have the fastest notifs in the west
4th. Love the videos bruh
Eternal Atake is definitely still fire. Uzi was in his bag on this record. Lo Mien is one of Uzi’s best songs imo. Super catchy, the beat is fire, and his flows were really clean.
Consistent CDTV is what we all need
I agree with Donda being one of the best in Kanye's discography, same with Eternal Atake by Uzi, as a pretty big Uzi fan. They are the definition of underrated to me, even though they haven't been out for too long. Nobody talks about those albums nearly enough for how much impact they brought to hip-hop at the start of this decade.
Pls make a vid of u taking a hip hop quiz! I want to see how knowledgeable u r.
damn beard looking good today... oh and great video
The Donda take is exactly how I feel. One of my most listened to albums ever
Finally someone is with me! I do believe Donda is top 5 Ye albums, as That album has been in my rotation since it’s release, and so many good quality and amazing songs, like Jesus Lord and come to life
Can we get content on dc the don? Hes an underground artist with a style similar to lil uzi and hes been doing big numbers for a while now and his production style is something id love to hear your opinions on. Love the vids man keep it up😁❤️
Literally watched the first episode of this series earlier today hoping for another sequel, let's get into these takes!
1. Absolutely agreed, you don't have to be a conscious rapper to put some thought and effort into your lyrics, and having a distinct lyrical style will always make your music stand out.
2. Haven't listened to DS2 yet unfortunately, so I'll have to stay impartial for now.
3. I personally think Donda is just too long and contains too many mediocre songs to be considered an amazing album. But the highlights on that album are truly incredible, and if he'd cut it down to about 15 tracks it would probably rank much higher in his discography.
4. Haven't listened to Nicki's singles either, but I did enjoy her feature on Blick Blick and Coi did a great job on that song as well. (Sidenote: I think Coi Leray is super underrated and gets way too much hate)
5. I relistened to Eternal Atake a few days ago, and while I do still love the intro and the last two sections of the album, I think the "Baby Pluto" section has grown off me even more. I used to enjoy Silly Watch and POP quite a bit, but now they just come off as stale and repetitive even for Uzi's standards. Overall only 10/18 songs have really stuck with me, but I enjoy those songs enough to at least call it a good album.
And the C stands for Consistency, glad to see yo on your grind
ITS FINALLY BACK
Yo I was literally thinking about this series the other day lol
I completely agree with your take on eternal atake, I genuinely don't get why the album is so hated
Let's go W CDTV Eternal atake is great!
Eternal Atake still bangs today. It's not particularly deep but it just puts me in a good mood.
1) 100% agree
2) 100% agree
3) can't disagree
4) N/A even though I kinda like "do we have a problem"
5) 2020 was a weak year. So...... yeah
CDTVthaGOAT
I literally feel the exact same about eternal atake, I would pay way to much money for the vinyl as well, and I cringe when someone calls it disappointing
I agree with you that donda is a top 5 Kanye album. I liked how you pointed out that he was taking a backseat on the album but he did in a way where he didn’t have a bad verse or hook at all on the whole album. The features where great (but baby keen).
cdtv reviving all the old series
Eternal take was fire I agree. But “Bussin” is fire. The beat, chorus and flows are dope
The fact that donda is tied with Jik is a crime that album was so different for me. The features were fire too. The deluxe had 32 songs but most of them are in my rotation which isn't always the case for an album of that length
I have never understood donda distaste, I listened to donda today actually but I feel like the last time I did on my car speakers on a long trip it was such a fun experience and I swear to God I absolutely love every last song on that album, except ok ok pt 2 .
This is a certified hood classic
Rap wise, Uzi was in his element on Eternal Atake. Baby Pluto, Prices, Bigger Than Life, Myron, I Can Show You, and more.
My unpopular opinion, you better move was one of his best tracks on there. Back when I first heard it I was heavy on drinking and coke so the song had and still has this feeling of “Gotta get to it” it motivates me to wanna get my hustle on even if my hustle is a normal 9 to 5 or aka 7/11, yes that’s my job please pray for me, but the song made me wanna keep going no matter what even to this day
I definitely agree with Donda being a top 5 album. It either is #4 or #5 for me depending on how I'm feeling but it's absolutely incredible to me
Could you do a video ranking Uzi projects?
Do a top trap album list or tier list one day
I can agree with your lyrics point to an extent (although oftentimes I'll still listen to a song if the beat and flows are nice, even if the lyrics are lame af). Even if you're just talking about the typical rap topics it can still be done in ways that are interesting and aren't void of personality. Young Thug's lyrics are often considered trash, but I personally think it's pretty entertaining how random and outlandish his lyrics tend to be and they're part of why his music has so much personality (and it's also part of what makes Thugger more interesting than the rappers that are clearly influenced by him). Same with Future to an extent,, some of his lyrics are so cartoonishly toxic that they're kinda funny. Even though Travis' lyrics are often pretty basic on the surface, they often don't fail to stay stuck in my head lol.
Hey CDTV. I’m glad you still love EA, I do too, but do you still dislike LUV Is Rage 2? Has it grown on you ever since you began to enjoy Uzi’s music or do you only really enjoy his more recent stuff?
Come to life and 24 are some of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Donda isn't just my #1 Kanye album but also my #1 album.
Glad you mentioned about Future’s Lyrics. I totally agree with you. Even when the lyrics are ass, future is at least funny lol.
I totally disagree with your opinion on DS2. I could understand if you listened to the album by yourself before going sleep, or while eating breakfast tho lol
Unpopular opinion on music in general(so not only rap music): 2014 and 2017 were great years for the new music industry to me,because I had so much memories and nostalgia over albums that I've heard in 2017 and nostalgia over songs that I've heard in 2014.I mean,I'm prolly missing a lot of great albums or even bad albums.
I 1000% I agree that Donda is a top 5 Kanye album. I hate it when ppl call u a new Kanye fan due to having that opinion but after a year of it being out I can definitely confirm that it’s at least his fifth best album. It’s just an absolute masterpiece.
Cdtv when's the Mr Morale and The Big Steppers review coming?
So, which Ye album would you drop out of your top 5 for Donda? Cuz I don't think it's anywhere close to being better than.. Dropout/MBDTF/Grad/808s/TLOP/LR/Yeezus.
@Thatchet Even still, that leaves another 6 I listed. Dun think it compares to those 6, imo.
hey cdtv i think you should try listening to the new underground genre stuff like pluggnb and dnb/hyperpop stuff
Consistency out the roof!
i hard agree with that last one, it's still one of my favourite albums from Uzi
Making a Lupe Fiasco reference...when's the Drill Music in Zion review?
Eternal Etake and Donda are masterpieces with Prices being my favourite (Ea) since of its heavenly beat and uzi just flows through it all so smoothly it makes me just 😩 and Believe What I Say is my favourite (Donda) since I love it when ye flows to a disco type rhythms it just fits so well and that sample has to be the best use of sampling in 2021 easily
Eternal Atake had no misses (for me) and was well put together with the transitions and the deluxe was hella enjoyable it just dropped at a weird time right before quarantine
I completly agree with you on Eteral Atake. Luv is Rage 2 is my favorite but eternal atake is number 2.
yoooooo reppin ORNG
While DS2 is a top 3 trap album for me, music is subjective and those albums you put above are pretty solid!
YESSSSS ETERNAL ATAKE WAS REALLY GOOD, they just love to compare carti and uzi and right know carti is more relevant. so they act like because carti dropped WLR now EA is a bad album somehow(?
You better move is hard af bro
So what Kayne albums would you put under Donda?
I was just talking about how I didn’t understand how people were hatin on the 2020 Uzi.
I LOV YU SEDITIVE PRODUCTION 😍😍😍😘🥰
I usually hate your opinions but I like your video's so im here 😂😂
i respect that 😭🙏🏻
@@CDTVProductions dope af 🔥
I completely agree with the Donda opinion. I got into Kanye because of the Donda rollout and I have to say his other albums are amazing. But for some reason I come back to donda with a greater listening experience because the music just strikes a certain part of me whether is the transition on Off The Grid, the beauty of Come to Life, or the emotion I can feel through 24 or Never Abandon Your Family. I just don’t see any music that comes close to the listening experience and “replayability” that Donda had to me. That’s why I personally have Donda as my favorite Kanye album.

I was rocking with your list until you said that Honestly, Nevermind was album of the year due to you "getting groovy with it".
Totally agree with you on Donda 🖤 It's his best album since Yeezus, imo 🙌🏻
Donda over TLOP is a hot take but I respect it
@@jackattack9994 lots of very good tracks on TLOP but I never fell in love with it as an entire body of work.
