New Tommy is easier to understand, however, all this traveling abroad has negatively affected his choice in beer and safety standards. 3/10 not a recommended modification.
If* you or anyone you know does this, just know the roof is a major structural component of the entire unibody. If possible keep the a b and c pillars intact and reinforce them for a makeshift roll cage. Cut the thin roof off and do a custom soft top around the factory pillars. Lots to do with the XJ
This is a unibody. Doesn't removing the roof and pillars kill your torsional and longitudinal stiffness? I'm surprised it didn't fold like a taco under its own weight.
blurglide not when you use a roll cage to keep it strong you can cut the top off a unibody as long as you have something to keep it sturdy to replace it with
i think you need to join the facebook group "i hate when i take the doors off my xj and the unibody folds in half" hahahaha. Any reason you used a grinder instead of a sawsall?
Better cutting and faster. I don't know why anybody uses a sawsall to cut metal when an angle grinder with a zip cut does it in easily a quarter of the time
Reach. It comes up that it's a pita to fit the grinder in, or you want to cut a second wall 3" from the first, and the deathwheel just don't reach. Sawsall is handy at that point.
7" angle grinder 9" angle grinder. And I guantee you sawzall doesn't have as low a profile or as high of effectiveness within the reach that those can cut. Yes you can get long blades for the sawzall, but they aren't going to be very effective if all you have is the end of the blade, and using one quite frankly leaves me feeling like I got beat up by mike tyson. And on top of all that I already mentioned, their reciprocating action makes sloppier cuts than a zip cut
Alex I've never seen deathwheels for the big grinders. But, while that helps with the reach, it still won't help when the grinder doesn't fit to make the cut. Which is the other reason for the sawsall. Which yeah, is crude, and shakes the piss outta stuff. That's why it's not the go to. But it has a role, and those are examples of why it gets used for sheetmetal.
Why not?the price of an international scout is through the roof even for a rusty heap.xjs are cheap.think of it as a scout clone that didn't cost $10000. But I wouldve used a 2door
What I would like to see: An Air system! I see simple things like lockers and whatnot but never an air system. Air lockers, Air pump, hose for airing up tires after they are aired down for the trail, the tank I will get to in a bit, and maybe a hose to provide air to a water tank like this ( ruclips.net/video/dG2HK9JsAjw/видео.html ) . Now the tank for this system I heard you can use a tubular bumper. Tap holes in the pipes where they weld together so each one has a connection for air to flow and there you go. The bumper is an air tank.
Damn, I don't know how I missed those in my search. I do see what you mean by "pretty lame", not your best work but I still *Liked* them and the connector in the fuel fill port is a great idea. I never saw or thought about the AC compressor as a pump either, guess because I live in Texas and our problems are keeping the AC working.
Travis Victorio xjs from canada will never be classics becaise theyre all rusty as hell no matter what only oem special serial number state side southern cars will be worth too much
That's dumb to do to a unibody. A lot of the structural rigidity comes from the roof and it's being connected to the A, B, and C pillars. That last pillar in the back isn't so important, but the rest of it is, and you just seriously reduced it's crash-worthiness, not to mention handling. You can cut the roof off an XJ, but for some reason I never see anybody do it right.
JK... I didn't go quite to this extreme on my XJ roof chop, but still chopped the full sheet metal upper. Always a joy finding videos of yours I've never seen before. #noframenoproblem
Holy Fuck a Moly! Did anyone listen that they are doing a roll cage?
I know it has been a while but Tommy looks different.
I wonder if you can fit a Comanche tailgate to kind of make it look a little more correct
New Tommy is easier to understand, however, all this traveling abroad has negatively affected his choice in beer and safety standards. 3/10 not a recommended modification.
Les was a great help. Got her done in no time!
AWESOME! !!....Great seeing you back!!!...can't wait to see this build be done...
Great idea... Cut your Jeep in half, water both halves and soon two Jeeps will grow.
Great video Clyde! I got in on the bold a little late, but. I'm anxiously waiting for each new installment.
why did you use a grinder instead of a reciprocating saw???
If* you or anyone you know does this, just know the roof is a major structural component of the entire unibody. If possible keep the a b and c pillars intact and reinforce them for a makeshift roll cage. Cut the thin roof off and do a custom soft top around the factory pillars. Lots to do with the XJ
Should do a cherokee wrangler hybrid. Turn an old Cherokee into a soft top!
I hate to see an XJ cut, but still cool and great video! Just leave a few left for me :-)
Hey. Are we going to see part 2 of the build....roll cage and such?
Great video! I'm really looking forward to watching this come together.
So where’s part two, or finished product? Lol would love to see how it turned out.
LOL, a fast butcher, waiting for part 2
Interested to see where you go with this....
Well done Bud!!☺
Why?!
It looked great like it was.
Won't say nothing else tho until I see the end result.
I kinda see where your going with it.
looking forward to more.
You should use Comanche bed rails
Dude, I want to see the dashboard vid. Hurry and post it!!
Can we get an update, or at least some pics of the xj? I'm thinking of either doing this to mine, or trade for a wrangler
Things gonna be SICK!
That twisted tea razzled me lol.
Interested to see where you go with it!
Part 2?
It reminds me of a Jeep Comanche pickup truck with the roof cut off like that
Awesome video!!
heavy work bro! i´m thinking about doing that on my grand cherokee wj...but i germany its not that easy...but well done!
Guess you are trailering it for now on ?
wow buddy did not know you wanted a safari jeep lol good start
I'll be back to see what this is going to turn into. :)
That thing is going to fold like a buffet table the first major bump it takes if you don't reinforce the underbody somehow.
you need to watch the video of his frame rail stiffeners
arron jeanneault ah well now that i know he has stiffened the frame i dnt need to watch it. But good to know.
now you have a floppy jeep thats gonna tear its self apart lol
Where are the girls? The thumbnail girls!!?? Didn't expect you'd chop the top... but will be cool to see what comes next.
Thomas EXOVCDS classic bait and switch 😂
Hey Clyde, how much to ship that dashboard and steering column to Miami, Florida.
I looked for wreckless kelly and all I got was band videos. Can you post another link? Maybe one we can click?
This is a unibody. Doesn't removing the roof and pillars kill your torsional and longitudinal stiffness? I'm surprised it didn't fold like a taco under its own weight.
blurglide not when you use a roll cage to keep it strong you can cut the top off a unibody as long as you have something to keep it sturdy to replace it with
blurglide yeah i was thinking the same
Not if you cage it
Hey..just subbed..saw you on Cab7's live stream..
Happy Monday...BESITOS..😘😘😘😘
I love the steering wheel y'all have
So I did hear he would be putting a roll bar but since it is a unibody car how secure would it be?for off reading and driving on the roads?
A video every once in a while would be nice
Aside from the cage, are you doing anything about the uni-body tacoing?
jbsjunk weld on some frame stiffeners.
Since XJ is a unibody, is that safe to do without it crumbling? Asking for myself
My safety goggles are turning my head.
Love it! Awesome video as always Clyde.
PS You trim a good beard
Next Episode: Cherokee Roof Giveaway!!!
are those fender flairs fabricated or bought? they look really cool
fabricated
7 months later still no 2nd part?
How are they going to seal gaps
Can you make a video about changing to a manual transmission
Soon as I get my hands on one
Love the videos, just drink and say eh a little more. Please live up to the stereo type. Lol
Have you reinforced the unibody for off road use?
So where are the rest of the videos for the chop top been waiting for months and still nothing.
Just getting back into the swing after some time off.
I knew this was coming lol.
Hi guys plz show me how go install a electric fan on my jeep Cherokee
starting with a yj could have saved you a lot of work :P
Thats nuts
Can I have your Jeep Cherokee Lund Sun Visor?????
What happened to Tommy? Hadn't seen hardly any videos in a while
hey are you selling ur top center console. ill buy it from you if ur not going to use it
Please keep showing the build.
will do
BEER GETS THE FUCKING JOB DONE!!!
Tommy gained a lot of weight.
A Jeep Cherokee sacrifices itself so the other xj’s can live. Colorized 2017
More videos!!
He wanted to crush his can at the end like they use to😭

I've used 7" discs on an angle grinder before, so don't tell me they don't exist.
But why?
well, you know how an xj is about twice as much fun with the doors off? Chop top hits that same multiplier again.
Why not?the price of an international scout is through the roof even for a rusty heap.xjs are cheap.think of it as a scout clone that didn't cost $10000. But I wouldve used a 2door
Cheromanche on the way
This thing is going to taco so fast.
Fuel pump replacement
Chop it up!! Mod it !!
Thats cool! Cut 'em up!!!
Can I buy the doors? hahaa
Don't move it it will bend in half

+Sam Sam that was the first video I ever made. Pretty lame but it was about that....
+Sam Sam Yeah, it is a choice between staying cool and having air....... part of the reason for taking the top off. 😎🤘
Just like mine
Where’s the new videos?
Oderusurngus his other channel?
Good way to make a Cherokee look like crap.
can't believe you'd ruin a classic like that
Travis Victorio xjs from canada will never be classics becaise theyre all rusty as hell no matter what only oem special serial number state side southern cars will be worth too much
Travis Victorio lol clasic. Theres still a few million of those things running around
Over 3 million XJ's produced and Clyde's is a rusted heap. Its not a classic. Hack away.
But that roof liner tho
I helped my buddy chop the top off his suburban and it fell on me and knocked my ass out
Oh ya - nicely done . 👍👍
Can you half ass this so I don't have to try this? XD
FLIP FLOP AND SOCKS!!?!?!?!?!!?!?
It's gonna fold like a taco. Jk. It's gonna be sweet.
twisted tea ......... really .....
its malt based .. close enough?
like cutting the reservoir tip off a condom.

body racking not good
Where's tommy. Wtf
sirccx3 thats him in the cowboy hat. Once u get fat u start lookin american
He quit the channel.
Nice!!! You mite wanna check out my cut up cherokee just search my name !!
Ughhhh :(
How Could You Ruin a classic vehicle like that? don't you realize your unibody will crumple like a ball of tin foil?
JK... I didn't go quite to this extreme on my XJ roof chop, but still chopped the full sheet metal upper. Always a joy finding videos of yours I've never seen before. #noframenoproblem
first one of the vids i ever did thumbs down :(
I am very disappointed.
I am disappoint.
Lame
Chop it up!! Mod it !!
