If you're just starting out in D&D and you don't have time or resources to 3D print or buy large numbers of minis look up Giant in the Playground and their webcomic Order of the Stick.
A while back they did a kickstarter to pay for new print runs of their books. One of the backer rewards was a series of pdfs called Monsters for Every Season. The pdfs are 30 to 60 pages of paper craft minis for most of the 3rd and 3.5 D&D monsters. All drawn in the art style of the Order of the Stick webcomic.
Last I checked, they had 5 different pdfs of these paper craft minis on the website that hosts their store. Priced at $6 suggested donation.
Download the pdfs, print off the pages with minis you need, cut them out, and fold them into simple A-frames. It's simple, cheap, fast, and supports a good artist.

Many many thanks for your videos!
You encourage me yesterday to order my first 3D printer: an ender 3. The main reason for my choice is the price of course. The second one is the quality of your printed minis with the ender 3.
My question is, do you have a video or post on Reddit to check all your features on your printer? Your modified profile as well as your upgrades on the printer?
Many many thanks for all the free content you are sharing in your videos. It is very powerful and useful.

have a feeling once you start printing with it - you are going to wish you bought the resin one instead.... the quality between the 2 for minatures is not close unfortunately... resin is toxic, expensive and really not great for the home unless you have a well ventilated area that you can monitor while the print is going on... but - the quality is so much better!

    • @SSJKenpachiZaraki

pretty much every 3D printer can do it, it's just a matter of how much print space you want and how much you're willing to spend vs how much effort you're willing to put in to maintainign the 3D printer.
Least effort, expensive = upbox, makerbot, zortrax etc
most effort, cheap = creality, ender3 etc
though technically resin printers (anycubic, form2) make much much better smaller details, making them ideal for tabletop minis, they smell bad, are more toxic and very messy, so you'll need a particularly suitable space with lots of ventilation and away from your usual living spaces in order to run it.

I can't, in good conscience, recommend it honestly. It's not that it isn't capable of doing great entry level prints - it's just the number of people I know who've given it a shot and had a terrible experience far outweighs the number of people who've had a good experience with it.
I think you're best off waiting for the Photon to go on sale (usually they hit $360 here in the US about once a month, and often multiple times).

@@3DPrintedTabletop Thanks! I think I'm either going to stick with an FDM printer or wait for the resin ones to get a little bit cheaper.

Omg he is so adorable. Y'all hold me back. I'm going to smack him. I just want to walk behind him with a squeak toy and match his steps/run.

I have a quick question how do you set up Ultimaker Cura it doesn't work when I try to print all I get is failed prints; but when I use Creality Slicer my prints work just fine, but I can't get as high quality prints as I see with the Ultimaker Cura. I have then Ender 3 Pro. Any suggestion?

There's a problem with your suggestion to sign in to Shapeways. I've tried to join for three days by signing in through Google and by joining as me and it never registers me. There is no reaction from Shapeways to my entries at all.

What are your support settings? I imported your settings but supports didn't populate. I'm using the ender 3.

Thanks again for showing my designs unintentionally. I am on Thingiverse with the name melabam. I was the one shown for the minibrowser first page designs. No I didn't put my designs on there, but obviously others must like my designs. I was also shown for my lava designs on your terrain video as you hurried through examples.

Hello man, I tried your profile for minis and it become my standard for small hd prints. I'm also testing your profile for dragons. Do you have any profile to print large/fast prints for everyday usage?

I know this post is quite old. I just got my printer today, I've watched a lot fo your videos and yiou've been super helpful. I hater to ask anything, but I'm encountring something I haven't seen anyone address in their videos........ I'm getting random strands of plastic. OK, some of it is on the print plate. seperate from my print. Anoying but ignorable. I'm also getting random strands on outside my print bed, it's ending up on the base of my unit and that just doesn't make sense. Would you be able to shine a light on it?

Does anyone know anyway to know the exact minis needed for specific modules? My group are about to start Storm king's thunder and I wanna start printing the exact minis needed for the whole campaign and print them off as I go. Any idea where I could find a list of the enemies and the amount of enemies needed for the entire campaign?

can you share the experience that how to improve the print quilty? if use my fdm printer to print such small model in your video,it will almost lost all detail ...

    • @JimboSlice92
      @JimboSlice92 5 лет назад

He has made a video about how to print better quality FDM miniatures. You can find if you search for "how to get resin quality prints on your FDM printer"
A lot of it depends on the printer you own. If you cant use his settings because you have a different printer, look up something like "how to improve detail quality on "x" printer. (With "x" bring the printer that you own.)
      Good luck!
