Got spicked once with a baby flathead about 4 inches long. At first, I thought nothing of it, but 5 or so mins later the pain was so bad I could feel my blood pressure rising. At the hospital they made me put my hand in very hot water. The pain stopped until my hand comes out of the water. Put my hand back in the hot water the pain stops again. Now I won't touch a flathead bare handed
Mate, what’s rod and reel combo would you recommend for everyday fishing? Not after monsters, just good size fish I fish land cove area a lot, great video mate

Hey Shroom great vid. Please do some blade and vibe fishing when you can, that would be great fun to watch. PS> I have heaps of fortesues on the oysters/seawall outside my house. Most are under around 5cm, I've held them before, never had any issues or been spiked, I have read/heard they have poison, however, I'm pretty sure it just a case of monitor from home, if swelling/redness and pain doesn't go down then attend hospital. Normally its the pain that gets people worried. I reckon its like getting done by a flatty. Don't quote me on that though!

@@ShroomFishing I generally fish for blue swimmer crab in the hacking and you need really robust bait otherwise the crabs will rip it to shreds. Can't beat tweed (other than fresh of course).
It's not it for sure but consider it a filming necessity. There's no other easy way to put rods in frame on video unless we watch just a rod or two at most. I actually would spread rods around and not even have lights (pure darkness) if I wasn't filming but that would make a horrid video, I hope you understand

Fortescue spins are so poisonous Shroom ! You're spot on . If spiked , most people need hospital attention , and quickly . Pain is excruciating . ✔👍

Yes dip that hand in hot water, a lot of marine toxins are unstable at temperature so it can cure or at least alleviate the pain greatly

It's not essential but you can set the hook. I usually do if I get there in time but never for circles
