This is nice. I'd love to know the origin. Is it Viking? Traditional music or modern. Graphic fits perfect. Thank You!
@@letsbettmontague9268 To elaborate: the song itself is from the Swedish film Ronja the robber's daughter (1984). Lyrics: Astrid Lindgren. Music: Björn Isfält. It has since then become increasingly popular and is now part of the Swedish national treasure. However, the way Jonna sings the song is quite older, she does a good job of interpreting a type Scandinavian traditional music that we know to be at least 300 years old (possibly much older). We don't know how Scandinavian music sounded in the Viking Era (people who say they know are fantazising): there are a few vague descriptions, some instruments that are quite old and some songs that seem quite old but not traceable 1000 years back. At best we can make educated guesses.
In short:
From a scholar point of view we can not say what viking era music is for sure.
From a musical artist point of view we can experiment with old music styles and perhaps come closer to something (or at least make good music from old roots as Jonna does). It can be a great source for inspiration.
From an RPG (role playing game) point of view this is damn good stuff for Viking fantasy (which, I believe, this channel is about).
I hope this helped, and I hope you still enjoy the music.
I will if I could get instructions on how we can figure out all the rest
Hey, make a version of this song in German then it would be close to being part of the Germanic Tribes
For all the lovely people that dosen't speak swedish but are wondering what this song is about. This beautiful song is about a hungry sleepless wolf and a parent that are telling the wolf to stay away because it wont get her child. 🧒🐺
Cool ! Thanks for the interpretation 🖤
Hearing that kinda reminds me of the tale of Beowulf of I remember correctly, people in a village keep dying at night so a group of men decide to stay up to find out why when they realize it's a monster that comes out of the lake that is behind the murders so they swear to slay the beast but it kills everyone in turn other than Beowulf, the only survivor. He slays the beast and mounts it's head in a tavern I believe but then the monster's mother finds out and attacks Beowulf and drags him into the lake where he fights it underwater.before killing it.(I don't remember fully, I read this tale a long while ago so please correct me if I'm wrong but this is the general story I remember)
Wow, thanks for sharing.
Damn it, I literally just started learning Spanish to understand Spanish asmr and now I also have to learn Swedish to understand viking songs. This world knows no chill for me lol
A hungry wolf and a parent warning the wolf to stay away from her child. Correct?
This calls me home to a place that I’ve never known…
You’ve just forgotten… we’re all that place.
We're all connected in the end brother.
Hiraeth...
Same for me....That's how I came to know the term "Hiraeth"
Exactly how I feel. And yes Hiraeth. A longing for a place you can't be or don't know. It is a Welsh word.
I am an indian and a like to watch johnna 's videos.i really feel relax by this swedish music although i coudnt understand the language.its really soothing and make me sleep .
Its January 12, I listen for the first time. I live in a forest, its clear cold tonight no wind. Millions of stars. 20cm of snow on ground. Wood fire going. Two dogs sleeping in my Ger with me. Alone Its okay. No wolves. A few coyotes and fox.

Wonderful!!!🌸❤️
What a lovely cozy picture you describe. There’s not much more cozy than watching a beloved animal sleep in safety. ❤
Me too ❤
It sounds beautiful
I may be late commenting on this video and maybe no one will see this comment, but I come here every morning and every day because of my depression. This soothing music helped me a lot. I just wanted to say thank you for letting me get through the tough times.
My friend, I hope you feel better now. Just be stronger than your personal problems because you can, I absolutely know it! You will be a great, wonderful person and everything will be easy and clear, I sure :)
@jaci- elizabeth I am absolutely glad to know that somebody likes this music style. I love everything connected with a Nature because it is a beginning of all things and phenomenons. But the wildest (in good meaning of this word) nature is northern with its icy rivers, dark forests and emerald plains. This music helps me feel my being there
I know depression well. 🤔🤗
WE NEED NOT SEE the comment.. because we are called to it..
We stand in depressive solidarity..

My late father was Swedish. I grew up there and moved to America when I was small. I miss the cold winters, the runes, the elegance of the language and the people. We celebrate Swedish holidays in my home, but I still long for the place I grew up in. This song is so beautiful it makes me cry. I will return someday.
I’m just laying with my 6 year old son, he struggles with falling asleep and being in his own bed. This song I play and it helps sooth him and now he’s asleep. Thank you ❤ feels like the old days before the world went mad xx
Tell me about it. 😔 I miss the old world that I once knew from when I was just a little girl way back then when the whole world made sense and everyone in half part of the world was sane and our country of America wasn't divided and broken up by war or who knows what else.
The pre-social media days we all miss.

The Wolf Song (Nordic Lullaby)
Vargen ylar i nattens skog
(The wolf is howling in the forest of the night)
Han vill men kan inte sova
(He wants to, but cannot sleep)
Hungern river i hans varga buk
(The hunger is scratching his wolfen stomach)
Och det är kallt i hans stova
(And it’s cold in his burrow)
Du varg du varg, kom inte hit
(Wolf, wolf, don’t you come here)
Ungen min får du aldrig
( I will never let you take my child)
Vargen ylar i nattens skog
(The wolf is howling in the forest of the night)
Ylar av hunger o klagar
(Howling out of hunger and moaning)
Men jag ska ge’n en grisa svans
(But I will give him a pig tail)
Sånt passar i varga magar
(That’s what the wolfen stomach needs)
Du varg du varg, kom inte hit
(Wolf, wolf, don’t you come here)
Ungen min får du aldrig
( I will never let you take my child)

Beautiful song, beautiful voice!!
Thank you for the translation
Thank you for the translation! Love this song! Love the voice! I'm listening to this daily ❤
Jy is die bok
Sånt passar i varga magar
That wasn't quite translated properly.
"Such things are fit for wolves bellies" Is a more appropriate translation, I'm Norwegian and know Swedish as well.
Otherwise the rest of it is fine I think, that one was the only thing i immediately noticed :)
Thank you very much🙏
I'm of native American descendants but I love female nordic singing and throat singing
I am also native American and have a bit of nordic as well. I love songs that tell a story with a beautiful voice.
Same! I'm Native and Italian. My husband is Nordic. I love this so much! 🥰
This feels like generations of my Mothers singing to me . I love hearing Scandinavian music. It touches the home in my heart.
My grandma used to sing to me in swedish, I wish I had learned to speak it. One night I heard my son in his room singing a swedish song he was 17 at the time and was interested in our heritage, I was amazed at how quickly he picked it up like he grew up hearing it, I guess it skipped me but he revived it!!
It isn't that hard to learn, this is a language that is really similar to english in its form and gave numerous words to english. I would say it is the easiest nordic language you could learn and there is few books out there to learn if u ever want to keep doing it. I guess there is also professors out there and I really hope for you you will do it one day
That's great! I wish I would've learned the language from my grandparents.
That’s so important, and such a cool heritage!
I listen to this music to soothe my Brokenheart and Aching Soul. My Soulmate of 40 years passed away 4 months ago. We met at Uni and instantly fell in Love. I cared for her until her last breathe, looked into her eyes and said, I Love you so Much, you can go Home to Rest now. We have 3 beautiful children and a grandchild but your Death has ripped my heart apart. You were my entirety, the reason I woke everyday. Love you Forever My Dearest and when I pass I know you will come to take me Home.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Someone said, you never get over grief - you just learn to walk alongside it. Jag beklagar sorgen 🪻
@@AmbitiousDucks Thank you so much for your kind words of care and compassion. Today we planted a tree next to my wife's grave. She is buried in a Woodland Burial Ground in Kent. A place of Beauty and Serenity. You words you quoted are so true.

I lay in bed listening to this beautiful haunting melody. The full moon is shining through the window. My room overlooks the Tamar Valley in Cornwall

Same here. It soothes me
I absolutely love all those Nordic lullabies I find here it puts my grandson to sleep everytime I put it on.
Can’t wait to move back to my childhood home in Sweden in 2 months! I miss singing this song in the deep echoing forest behind my house❤ Never moving out of Sweden ever again. I just don’t feel like myself when I live outside of my country. Hearing this song from my childhood almost makes me cry. I miss this feeling.
Make sure when you go back to watch your back for the new Islamic enemies that have invaded your lands
That's so awesome!
That's like how it is when I'm in the old mining town of Sunnyside. I felt more like myself and felt more at home there out in the wilderness than I did in a house there.
Or at least it used to be because I don't live there anymore, unfortunately for me. 😔
I miss it and want to move back there because that place is my home it is also where my pet cats bone dust in a big brown box is buried right next to a smaller one underneath the hedgebush tree by the house living room window that has got a bird in it. Plus, a whole lot of memories that are both good and bad and happy and sad and bittersweet for me.
In the middle of the night, I found my faith and was restored by the spirit, the first thing I looked up on my phone to sleep was lullaby’s and this was the first to pop up. What I was feeling at that moment perfectly matched this song.
Holy, magical, and divine.
I love this song, i love the vibe, i love the wind, the storm ..i can feel the ice and the cold of the nordic landscapes. And i can feel the loneliness and in the same time the feeling of beeing at home on a small warming fire while the storm outside is freezing everything
Beautiful swedish lullaby, my mother and grandmother always lulled me to sleep with this.
So cool!

Definetly bullshit. Unless your name is Ronja Röverdotter.
@@sebastianfieldsend4914 its a kid's lullaby from Astrid Lindgren so no its not bs
When my grandaughter comes for a sleepover she always asks for the wolf lullaby at bedtime, she’s only four and pretends to call the herds. It’s so sweet
I literally stumbled upon this by accident. Am I glad I did! The haunting plaintive music, the wind, the howling lonely sound of the wolves in the background. I LOVE IT. I am recovering from a lung infection and steroids make sleep very elusive. At 4 am last night I was wide awake so I put my earphones in and managed to get a few hours sleep. Thank god for this lullaby.!
This song is letting me know that I do not belong to this world. It drags me to somewhere I don't know. It describe me the truth of life. I definitely share this with my beloved ones. Thank you very much the singer. ❤
This song is written by Astrid Lindgren and the music is by Björn Isfält. In the movie Ronja rövardotter (Robbers daughter ) hers mother Lovis is singing this song to Ronja when she going to sleep.
Honestly, it's beautiful but does anyone else start crying for no reason whenever listening to things like this?
Oh I definitly do, my eyes have a mind of their own
And out of nowhere I'll start crying when I come across almost anything with vikings
Yes! But it’s not for no reason. 😉 This touches our souls & triggers our deep lineage 🐺✨
Oh Yea.....
I wish to share my White Angel Husky. She passed this Holiday May. Her blue eyes and wild free spirit rule our souls waiting for our fate. For when we meet again...she will be the front line greeter. Chasing forward before Jesus standing behind her. We will follow her. She will lead us then.
Absolutely !It is the voice and the melody , brings me back ancestor feelings
No I wish I had the heart to cry at least once..I lost my compassion as a child. Now I cry from the heart. I bleed with not one tear . I cry in silence only to find myself alone without anyone to bring me comfort. Why has the child grown into a man with no heart... Now I am left with question..do I even have a soul?
Hauntingly beautiful song. Thank you for the translations. It's just a song, but I'm comforted to know whilst she protects her child, she won't let the wolf go hungry.
As a scandinavian, i give this the seal of approval 😄😄

I want to thank all the lovely persons who have left comments here explaining and describing the meaning of this video. I'm learning a lot about a culture with which I haven't had familiarity with until now. This is a beautiful melody expressing a theme of every culture-a mother who will face even a wolf to protect her child.
I have been listening to this non-stop for about three days - sleeping to it; gaming to it; reading to it. For some reason, this piece does everything right for me.

I’m a blend of 7 ethnicities, 2 of them being Celtic and Finnish. I feel close to the Nordic culture, and listening to this at night feels so healing and soothing. 🤍🩵
Here is an English version that can be sung to the music
The wolf, is howling, in the forest, at night
He wants, to sleep but he can't
The hunger is aching, in his empty stomach
O it's cold in his burrow
You wolf, you wolf, don't come here
You'll never get, the child of mine
The wolf, is howling, in the forest at night
Howling of hunger and sorrow
But I, will give him a tail, from a pig
Stuff, that will fill every wolf's stomach
You wolf, you wolf, don't come here
You will never, get, the child of mine
Sleep my child, in the bed of mine
Let the wolf howl, in the night
But I, will give him a chicken chank
If nobody else, has taken it
You wolf, you wolf, don't come here
You will never, get, my child
Ooo
You'll never, get, the child
Thank you for this translation.
thanks so much!

Lyrics-
Vargen ylar i nattens skog

Han vill men kan inte sova

Ungen min får du aldrig

Vargen ylar i nattens skog
(The wolf is howling in the forest of the night)
Ylar av hunger o klagar

Men jag ska gen en grisa svans

Du varg du varg, kom inte hit
(Wolf, wolf, don't you come here)
Ungen min får du aldrig
(I will never let you take my child)
Thank you. ❤️❤️
Translation to english kinda weird
The song comes from the Swedish film Ronja Rövardotter (Ronja The Robbers Daughter) from 1984, which is based on a book by Astrid Lindgren. Astrid Lindgren is most famous internationally with her Pippi Longstocking character, I believe.
Friend- you mixed up ä and å quite badly. There's a big difference and it makes this all look really strange 😅
Thank you sooooo much.
This has become my nightly lullaby. It calms my mind and relaxes my aching body. It’s as soothing to me at 73 as it must be to little ones. Beautiful, timeless and ageless. Rest well everyone
I heard this song 4 years ago and learned it to sing to my newborn, and it always worked to soothe her. She'll still ask for wolf song at bed time.
Sorta primal maybe that's why this music moves the soul, past lives is another thought, if we've lived many lives then we lived through the birth of these beautiful songs x
Jonna is one of my favorite people ever!!!!! What a precious light she is!!!💙
I find the exact twig imbedded in some stone where we agreed to meet. I know this is the right time and place. My companion is on time, his eyes searing into mine as he recognizes the hard battles I have fought for centuries. I know his compassion as I know my own heart beat. My sword and shield drop involuntarily to my side. I know that with our meeting, he has come to tell me there are no more battles in my future. I have succeeded even in what feels to me in this moment like defeat. I hinge all of my remaining energy on his knowing and not my own. What will come to pass for me to know without doubt has yet to unfold. I could stand here in his presence forever, neither the cold or the fatigue impedes me now. No worries dear fellow warrior, you too will stand with us until the end of time. And from the vision within the vision bestowed to me by my closest of companions, time is not long for this world. Do NOT be afraid.
Title: Wolfenberg von stubeck

I saw the little people when I was a child. They were very sweet and different. As a child I just thought they were my little friends. I'd sit there by the tree in the woods while my dad was busy with chores. Everytime I would sit by the tree they would all the sudden show up. In my grandfathers time,1880-1976,in Finland,Wolves were a much respected and feared animal. There were bears too but the big winter wolf was a terrifying creature.
My great grandmother sailed from Sweden in 1903, when she was 3yrs old. Carlson was name. She said took all summer, 3 months, and sharks followed boat the whole way.
Mine came in 1904! Anderson’s! Settled in the Lake Of The Woods, Minnesota area! Those were some badass people!!
The sharks still follow fishing boats in some places.

In Germany, the song is in a children's film called Ronja, the robber's daughter, because the mother is telling the child to fall asleep the song sounds great, no matter which version

Meeting with Him! Just the ones who would like to find are able to find!
I don’t speak Swedish but I feel so drawn to Vikings and their history. In my bloodline on both sides my family came from the Vikings. I feel as if the strong connection comes from a past life. I know it does. This really calms my soul in a way I cannot explain.
I feel like this place is calling me even though I have never been there. Something tells me that I‘m somehow connected with it
