"Go tell the Spartans, stranger passing by, that here obedient to their laws we lie", words on the monument at Thermopylae. Western civilization owes its being to the sacrifice made by the Greeks.
What would u like civilization to do ...they made a comic book and a movie about the comic book about them. The only evidence of the battle is Herodotus, and recently I saw a video where archeologists found 100s of arrowheads where the Spartans are thought to have made their last stand
@@ralphgreenjr.2466 I have the utmost respect for ancient Greeks. Also for the Greeks that fought Greece's war for independence. And also for the Greek monks on Mount Athos. Not so much, however, for the Greeks that made Greece the most indebted country in Europe, and then got mad at Europe when asked to do something about it.

If the Greeks had not defeated the Asian conquerors at that time, Europe would not be as we know it today. This is the truth and we owe respect and admiration to Greece.
Both Iran and India, were against, slavery, had religious freedom, labor rights, equal rights, human rights, it took the west 2000 years to catch up. Persia released the Jews after conquering Babylonia, and ended slavery! If Persia had stayed in Greece, Europe would have gotten it faster.
@@truthseeker6142 Nothing against India, really, but is a caste system much better than slavery? Or is it still "freedom"? Could/can one move from his/her caste? Just asking. I am a truth give-up-er.
@@komandagleby_GB Well the caste system I think u refer to is the corrupted one, where one’s birth determines one’s work. F ex if your father/mother are judges automatically u become a judge even though u lack the quality. That caste system is demoniac and has corrupted society. Same thing happened in Japan, the caste system there was also corrupted, becoming a Samurai was no longer based on quality but became hereditary which eventually lead to the downfall of the Japanese warrior class. Real caste system is based on one’s nature, inclination and quality which in turn determines one’s work/position in society. So f ex if u are inclined to rule, chivalrous, brave, like to fight etc, u would be happy and thrive in a military position anything else would inhibit your potential and make u miserable. The caste system is extremely scientific and looks at a persons mental and physical Capabilities. So yes the authentic caste system is a free system where one can move up and down depending on the qualities etc one exhibit.
As much as the Spartans were lauded and respected for their courage rarely do the other brave Greeks who stood with them get a mention. If there were 1,200 men & only 300 were Spartans , history has not been too kind to the other Greeks.
yes I agree and many of them stayed to the very end. The last 300 being only Spartans is not correct. The city states of Thebes and Thespiae sent more men than Sparta did.
Aristocles, the Athenian naval commander, was the unsung hero of the Persian War...Without him and his generalship at sea, Leonidas and the 300 would've been overrun on the first day.

This is utter garbage for people like you who clearly know ZERO about the Battle of Thermopylae. Like all the videos that this clown produces, it is filled with factual errors from start to finish.
The 2nd day when Leonidas got killed is when the battle was most fierce. As the Persians were trying to take his body as a trophy and the Spartans would fight to take it back. 4 times it swtiched hands , w the fiercest fighting and most driven Spartans not letting their king get taken and made w mockery of. I'd love to see that battle !!
I did, it was my body! Of course in a previous incarnation. We fought like lions, just as the Trojans did earlier, and I was there too, our target, Xerxes himself. Aah, if I could have got close enough to take him out that fine day, or just to put the fear of God in him, and see the fear in his eyes. The other thing I recall was the ineptitude and tyranny of the priests, who didn't wish to get their hands dirty on a religious festival. They knew nothing of what made Sparta great, the austerity, discipline, the obedience, the strength of will, the fastidious nature to detail, the willingness to die for your virtues and country, and thus the deepest desire to serve. It is such virtues that can bestow upon a man the gift and crown of eternal life, thus fear not physical death, for it is a mere passing into another kind of life, not so far away from this earth, although the man whom constantly, vigilantly, and diligently seeks and serves truth itself, must one day enter into the Kingdom of Paradise. This requires dedication to the virtues, by which any man, upon his wheel of reincarnation, can raise himself up to the blessed fields, and come to know of the one true God, priest, or no priest. In fact, I would rather not speak of priests at all!!!
@@EmperorNerox Funny, only seconds before I saw your message I was just thinking of a small band of priests who had made this life a living hell, as did priests from former lives too, in such as Egypt. You have given me a new perspective, or terminology should I say, which describes them to a tee, for they hate everything that is decent, especially when it is better to what they have. So from Sparta, to the Nile, and back to the British Isles, and beyond, I know now why they hate me, simply because they hate life itself. What a group of spoil sport misery guts!!!!!!!!!!!! I would not like to be the physician, Hippocrates, Galen, Asclepion, or otherwise, who was tasked to sort their livers out. I really wouldn't. I think even a starving pack of wolves would not go anywhere near them, and turn their noses up in the air in disdain at the sheer smell!
There were only a handful of spartan citizens at thermopylae, they were known as the hippeis or as the spartan royal guards. There were 300 spartan bringing with them 3 helots (slaves) with them each 300x3=900 which makes the total of spartan warriors 1200, now there were not only 1200 spartans! There alot, alot of other greeks too. Modern estimates say around 7200 greeks participated in the battle of thermopylae, and on the persian side 150000-250000.

Today the 11th of April 2022 .Is the 105th year Anniversary of one of the darkest Days in Australians History . Which was a Battle in World War One . The Battle of Bullecourt was to break through the heavily fortified Hindenburg Line. But due to the Pommie High commands ' stupidity they let us down big time, causing massive casualties to us . With the loss of 10,000 killed, wounded or captured. But we kept to our word and honor ,fighting to the horrific finish . We fought and Died for other people's Countries that had been invaded .Freeing them .Lest we Forget.
Lots of examples of 'Pommie High commands ' stupidity'. None more significant than Gallipoli where the Lord of the Admiralty at the time was Winston Churchill. So how do you reward incompetence? You make them Prime Minister!
There were actually 7000 Greeks led by 300 Spartans. Scouts reported back to Xerxes that before the battle the Spartans were bathing. A general ridiculed this and was corrected. He was told Spartans only groom themselves when preparing to die.
@@georgechristodoulou6495 So the details of the battle have changed? The information I quoted came from my grade 10 History textbook. I believe you are thinking of the last stand on the final day of the battle.
What your book is reffering is the number of soldiiers that went to the specific field to fight. But at a meeting, seeing the number of Persians, they decided to gother more troops and make a stand at Corinth wich was a very narrow passing giving them the advantage. So the 1000 stayed to give them the time needed.
A Greek Traitor Ephialtes was an ancient Greek, son of Eurydemos. As Herodotus mentions, he presented himself to Xerxes and showed him the narrow passage that led from Mount Kallidromos to Thermopylae, and he undertook to lead the Persians from there, so as to strike from the rear the Spartans of Leonidas (480 BC). The Persians pushed back the Phocaeans and surrounded the Greeks. Nightmare had fulfilled his role. For this deed the Persian emperor gave him a large monetary reward. When the Persians were defeated and left Greece, the Delphic Amphictyonia proclaimed him in return for a monetary reward and therefore Ephialtes fled to Thessaly. When, after years, he returned to his homeland, Antikyri (near Sperchios River, Herodotus writes, therefore today's Lamia), he was murdered. The man who killed him was a Trachinian (modern Heraklia Phthiotides), Athenades, who according to Herodotus recognized him.

I'm pretty certain the Persians did not have metal shields. They had shields made from some sort of wicker material. Obviously not as good as Spartan shields.
300 Spartans, Leonidas' personal guard, and 700 Thespians with their general Demophilos equal to Leonidas. And the sheer Megistias the Aitolian all fell in battle.
I just finished Conn Iggulden’s historical novel “The Gates of Athens” the first in a series of historical novels about Athens. This first one takes you from the Battle of Marathon to the Battles of Thermopylae & Artemisium. The telling of Thermopylae is very descriptive and gives Honor to the Spartans, the Non-Spartans who lived around Sparta and the Thespians, both of whom willingly stayed behind with King Leonidas. There are (so far) two other books in the Athenian Series: “Protector”, which I am reading now, takes the reader up to the Battle of Plataea. The third novel, “The Lion” explores Athens at it’s Apogee.
Those books sound interesting. I read “Gates of Fire” by Pressfield, a historical novel about Sparta culminating in Thermopylae, and Gore Vidal’s “Creation” which is written from the Persian perspective
The 300 Spartans are always remembered, but it is only fair to recognize the other soldiers who refused to retreat as the 700 Hespians and 400 Thebans. Furthermore, helots, slaves of the Spartans, who also sacrificed themselves in that battle, have never been reported.

The spartan's were invisible because they developed standing together (later the Romans copied the Spartans in battle formation). Their spears were longer, and protected each other by standing close together or side by side. They also had a shield and a sword, but mainly fought off the Medes and Persian million man army or at least killed over 60,000 of the million man army by King Xerxes. Xerxes was a madman, he spared no one. He had a bridge built by tying ships together long side and then had a road built on top, but a dreadful storm came and destroyed the boats, and this nut king, had the heads of his own architects chopped off and thrown into the sea, and had his other men beat the water (I mean he really had his men strike the water as punishment) he was nuts and greed with power. The 300 were betrayed by a Greek. The Spartans were surrounded as the Medes went up the mountain through a trail and came down behind them. They were mighty warriors frontal but had nothing to help them from behind. But imagine how 300 fought off a million invaders, and killed nearly 60,000 of Xerxes' troops, even his elite guards wiped out. When Xerxes, finally got to the city, there was no one there, so he burned it to the ground. Except the larger building is still there but never rebuilt again, not even by the Romans. Xerxes, never was able to conquer Greece! All this was predicted by Daniel, a Jew who was captured by the Babylonians and lived in Babylon till Cyrus the Mede and Darius took over. After that the Medes and Persians conquered more territory then the Babylonians ever did. They fulfilled the prophecy of Nebuchadnezzar dream of the immense image, that the King saw in his dream. The head of gold was Nebuchadnezzar, the arms of silver were the Medes and Persians, the copper thighs was Greece, the legs of Iron, was Roman Empire and the feet is the Anglo/American World Power. The feet is mixed with Iron (government) and clay (people against the government and laws). A stone comes flying out of a mountain and it crushes the feet of that immense image and God's Kingdom begins it's ruler ship over the earth. Daniel foretold about that Kingdom in Daniel 2:44.

The 3 facts the movie 300 and western history books refused to publish was 1. The Spartans gathered thousands more soldiers from neighboring tribes to total nearly 10,000 and 2. The whole Spartan+allies army got wiped out by the massive Persian army. 3.The whole Director/Producer/crew of the movie were Israeli and just like "Not Without My Daughter" the movie was made for the sole purpose of discrediting and staining Persians and Iran.

There were only around 7000 greeks which included the 300 spartans. The spartans did a lot which is why people praised them. Some spartans also stayed behind to make a brave last stand. Some say the persian army was 300000 but others say it was 1000000. By the way, I was talking about the battle of thermopylae
My friend I’m a Persian that army was 30000 man it wasn't just persian it was. from India and Egypt also because it has conquered India and Egypt and trains warriors from this land who have conquered them and they have take also elephants from India and in really history all of spartan warriors die and Persian army Take the Country that is the really history about king khashayar and Persian
It's very smart and clever how only the front one or two rows of men are doing the fighting giving the guys in the back time to rest and they can rotate those guys from behind to take over so the soliders in the front can get a break and rest!
Here’s the real story if you do wanna learn!
Cyrus the great is the father of democratic principles. Not Athenians, Athenians had slaves, thinking was frowned upon (Socrates was killed for those reasons), women had zero rights, religious freedom did not exist. In Persia it was the complete opposite, ppl had religious freedom (Jews loved Persia) slavery was banned (Persepolis was built by paid labor) , women had equal rights, there were labor rights etc. Hence why the Bible glorifies Iranian kings and not greece or rome. Thomas Jefferson main inspiration was Cyrus the great.
It has apparently changed over the years, as sea levels have changed. I sense a part of it was narrow, but it then widened as one neared the Persians. I think on the third day when the Spartans knew their rear had been taken, they moved more into the open and wider part of the beech, so as to attack the Persians, and take it to them, hoping to maybe take Xerxes, who would have been some way away. Unfortunately, Leonadis was struck down and died, then the raging fighting for his body. I think they would have taken the shape of a V, to move into them. I do this vaguely from memory, as I was there, some time ago though. All I can say is...it was a good day to die!

I think you were cruel to the history of Iran. The Iranians were never savages (the story of the conquest of Babylon by Cyrus the Great) The clothes and armor of the Iranian soldiers were never in the shape of a 300 film. The Iranian army was not told that they would not die forever. For this reason, it was said that whenever a soldier died, a ready soldier was quickly replaced.

The Athenians, not professional soldiers, gave a good account of themselves, and stayed until the last.
yes I agree and many of them stayed to the very end.

They were the ultimate warriors in the day.

Welcome
Amazing work man, not many editors like you exist
Thank you
I just finished Conn Iggulden’s historical novel “The Gates of Athens” the first in a series of historical novels about Athens. The third novel, “The Lion” explores Athens at it’s Apogee.
thanks for sharing. Love it!
Those books sound interesting. I read “Gates of Fire” by Pressfield, a historical novel about Sparta culminating in Thermopylae, and Gore Vidal’s “Creation” which is written from the Persian perspective
You should also read Pressfield's "Gates of Fire". It is a tremendous work.

Hot Gates....

What you learned is an inaccurate account of what really happened. ADitu Laudis does not know history.

@@sutart6705 The 300 were the personal body guard of the king. There were also 2 other city states that that sent small contingents of citizen soldiers.
@@bobporch but didn’t Leonidas let them leave if they wanted to?
Loved it! All you need next time is a narrator! Just to make it even more epic. But awesome job!
Noted! thanks
Essa batalha não é as das termópilas.
I take it that this is very far from the actual battle in which the Spartans massacred the Persians
Us Persians have lost 3 battles with Greeces ,arabs and Mongols. But in the long runs, we always won the war ,Because all of them were observed by our Grate civilisation ,culture and the amazing sprit of Aryan peoples.
The true history is quite different than what been falsified by
Greek s& other Western
historians.
Truly epic War
1999, when NATO illegally attacked Serbia and Montenegro in order to seize a part of Serbia and give it to the Albanians who serve them and to build a base in that territory. On the border of Serbia and Albania, the Kosara watchtower is defended by 201 Serbian soldiers, mostly young men. Against them were 3,000 Albanian terrorists, English and American special forces and the regular Albanian army and NATO aviation. Those young men repelled the attacks much more than the Spartans. Of these 201, 108 young soldiers died bravely defending their country from Western terrorists and their Albanian minions. This is the truth that many people know, but the Western bullies in the media do not allow the truth to come out
Spartans.... ready your breakfast and eat hearty .. for tonight we dine in hell..
"Immortals. We put their name to the test."
3:45 Sucks to train your entire life as a spartan only to die by an arrow lol

Fun fact, Persians did not have widespread traditional slavery and ancient Greeks did.
Spartans also enslaved their fellow Greeks. And Athenian democracy was not open to the participation of women folk.
So they did have slavery, but not widespread nor traditional slavery. Thanks
Lmao! They didn’t have slavery because they were already slaves, the whole empire
@@jamebrooke894 no they didn’t have any slaves at all. Also Persians were very accepting of the peoples cultures and religions that they conquered, they never forced people to convert or become a Persian. Not only that, but they had very advanced forms of governing which Alexander the Great later copy pasted throughout his empire. Persian Immortals were just as trained as Spartans, the advantage of Spartans was their phalanx and bronze armor, but they got yeeted by Romans later so they aren’t unstoppable. Plus you know Sparta and Persia ally after right? They destroyed Athens, and they never recovered after that. Sparta was just filled with brutes.
@@brittking3990 What…
The smaller Greeks forces were there to slowdown the Persian advance. Later the Greek forces both on the land on in the sea slaughtered the Persians. And Later in history Alexander the Great finished them off for good! 💙🇬🇷💙🇬🇷💙
Sorry, but the nubers are not really..The Greek armies were...Spartans 300 and Thespians 700...The Persians were more than one million, but their problem was that the battle area was very close.. The Spartans lost the battle because some traitor(Efialtis) spoked to the Persians the only way to go back of the Greeks.. The King Leonidas spoke to the Thespians to live the buttle to survive.. But the Thespians said to Leonidas...."We will not live you to have just you the glory of this buttle"...And Leonidas said to the soldiers..."Dont eat much food now. We will eat our dinner in Adis(the king of the world that the souls going after death)". This was the Spartan philosofy for the worlds..thank you for your attention.
thanks for the comment. This is a fictional battle inspired by Thermopylae
"Chapeau bas", comme nous disons en français.
"Hats off", as we say in French.
Historically very interesting, even if the cinematic suspense is weak.
It makes me want to try Rome TotalWar II, even though I haven't played this kind of game for 20 years.

the story but it says. and the story is not deleted my friend.
there were actually 300 spartans and 7000 greek warriors from athens and arcadia and the were 70,000 perians
