    As a crusty, cranky old engineer of 50 years I can assure the viewers that this young rooster has the touch. You can't learn it in books..you either get it or you don't. Its a pleasure to watch a Craftsman work.

    After 40 years of repairing bumpers i have never seen anyone using a ballpein hammer and sand bag, i have around 30 different hammers , all shapes and sizes, solid steel bench around 50mm thick, but if this process works, then its great, love your channel, keep up the great work, been a fan since the early 80,s with your XA .

    Hi Howard,
    Love your work mate, you run a tidy workshop and in my experience that's a sign of a good tradie. Did my apprenticeship with a few old timers building bridges and they would always say stop choking that hammer. Ha ha

    Excellent episode again Howard. When you think you are paying attention to detail in your work people, remember....you never are an expert until you epoxy and prime your sandwich plate! Had to have a laugh at that, but then said to myself, attention to detail is everything!

    Love seeing what a craftsman does behind the scenes to get the results time and time again. keep up the great work and keep the vids coming. As for the Oxalis in your lawn, spray it in the morning while the dew is still present, this will help the poison attach to the foliage then allow the sun to bake those annoying weeds. I'm having the same issues with my lawn after heavy rain and found spraying 1st thing in the morning really helps burn the weeds. Good luck Howard

    Absolutely loving this series mate! I'm currently in quarantine and this is really helping pass the time while learning a bunch of tips!
    One question I've (probably a noob question) is there a difference between prepsol and wax and grease remover? Also what's the purpose of the metho/water step?
    Cheers, Dylan

    • @AstillDesign
      @AstillDesign  2 года назад +2

      No sure about the wax and grease. The metho and water is a good secondary step to eradicate any oils etc especially from your hands

    • @tonymontana897
      @tonymontana897 2 года назад +1

      Prepsol and wax and grease remover are essentially the same thing. Prepsol is a proprietary name given to what is wax and grease remover.

    Another great episode!....of all the things to catch my interest is the mention of the carbon canister, working on an old car myself and helpful hints on your setup to minimise fuel smell would be great as my factory setup just has a long hose that eventually just vents to atmosphere and it taught me why all the older house had detached garages! Never recall a fuel smell in the summernats top 60 hall

    • @AstillDesign
      @AstillDesign  2 года назад

      They came in, in the late 70’s but wasn’t till much latter that they moved them to the boot. You can set up a elec solenoid to open once the engine is running to vent the canister.

    I want to convert my single garage into a spray booth and your tips came in handy although I still need to do more research on the many aspects I need to make it a proper functioning booth including the extraction system.
    Is the refrigerated unit expensive and where would be the best place to look for one Howard ?
    If you have time, cos I know you're extremely busy mate, could you link the some of the items you point out, such as what I just spoke about and then perhaps the wall mounted filters etc. Your recommendations are worthy of a second look.

    Is that your favourite slightly rounded looking wooden straight edge? Haha sorry it just made me smile 😊 I’m pretty sure my bumper would be worse off if I attempted what you are doing! When you say you are doing this for longevity is it because the less bog the better the paint will last?

    • @AstillDesign
      @AstillDesign  2 года назад

      Hey mate, Yep the least amount of product build up = less shrinkage a movement. especially on the bumper if the car is going to get some use and potential stone chips. The straight edge is a piece of Tasmanian oak. i have many lenghts. 35mm x 4mm

    Hi Howard, I’ve been out of the game for a while and I have 2 VB commodores to restore. One I need as a daily and the other to get taken back to bare metal to restore first. I have a dilemma that while I’m doing up my wagon my sedan I have had some surface rust. I’d like to prevent it from degrading any further so before I start the wagon I was wondering if I can sand the surface rust back and treat it, but not as far as bare metal the whole thing until my wagon’s finished in around 12 months plus time. Can I paint over the acrylic? I’ve seen tinted white 2k primer done or a 2k clear done as a rat rod type finish. Could you help lead me in the right direction as there’s so many different opinions? Thanks heaps

    • @AstillDesign
      @AstillDesign  Год назад +1

      If you plan on bare metal once you start it then I would put some industrial rust enamel over the patches and it will then come off with the stripper when you bare metal it. something like rust guard
