Outstanding video. Good photography, good explanation, not a lot of extraneous material. And most importantly - THE PROCEDURE WORKED PERFECTLY!. Thank you so much John. Someone stole the mirror out of my 2007 XK. Was able to find a used one and replace it myself due to your video. And by the way, although this video was for an earlier XK8, it worked the same on my 2007 XK and would be the same on the XKR as well.
Great how-to. Much thanks for posting. A little disappointed that you didn't show the R&R of the backing cover. However; armed with this info, I think I can figure it out, now that I can see inside. Thanks again.

Gosh I wish Jaguar hadn't stopped making the coupe / manual transmission combo. And wouldn't an XK-R convertible be sweet with a 5-6-7-8 speed something or other? Ah, well.
Got an S Type from 2000, the nearside mirror squeaks when moving so I want to take the mirror out and put some PTFE lubricant on the hinge. Thanks for doing this video, I'll do it tomorrow when it's light.
Hi John, thanks for the very informative video on removing the wing mirror glass from the XK8. I have one question for you. I bought a replacement mirror on the net and it did not come with the mirror surround. Is there a special way to remove the old mirror surround to fit it onto the new mirror? Thanks so much.
I just got the same issue with a mirror bought on ebay. It looks as you cannot (without violence and damage) remove the black plastic rim from the old one, it's on there pretty good.
Question, how do you remove the back plate inside the wing mirror? Reason I ask is some numpty glued the glass on one of mine and the force to take it off broke the back plate.
@@tristinelam1486 Remove the small triangular speaker and unscrew one large Torx screw. To unplug it completely you will need remove the door card. That requires removal of three screws and a plastic pry tool around the edges.
“The Garage”. I have a person who has changed a back-up mirror But replacing the mirror alone would do the job for me. I really can’t afford a new one between labor and parts. Pls advise me how to accomplish. Where are you located? Thanks
Help help help! Fuel inertia switch? I watch all your videos. I have 97xk8. I just bumped into a light pole. Small scratch on my bumper. It shut off immediately. don't want to take it to the shop if I dont have to! I need your genius!
Leanne Herda you are too kind. I am just an enthusiastic amateur. Open the door on the left hand end of the dashboard. Press down hard on the black rubber button mounted in there. It’s in one of my secrets video’s though I can’t remember which one. 😐 (doing this on my phone) let me know how you get on
@@ToTheGarage we tried that before calling the tow truck. The button was still down. So you can't press it! Open the door and get down and look to your Right. it will be to the right of where the passenger would put his/her feet. Theres a plastic piece of trim that will look like it has a little plastic piece much like where the tow hooks are. Remove that piece of plastic and push the switch in.
Leanne Herda 👋 first the inertia switch can take a lot of effort to reset. Push very hard ( these things don’t operate for 15 years and then get moved once!) Second. If it is not that then on an xk8 I would be checking the 250amp fuses in the spare wheel well right at the back mounted on the steel vertically. However I have never owned an x type so can’t suggest where they will be. Good luck 👍
Sounds like the electrochroamatic element in the mirror has failed leaving it permanently tinted. You could replace the mirror with a good second hand one, or attatch standard mirror glass to the front face for a quick cheap fix.
Your videos are one the best in terms of both verbal explanation and practical demonstration.
Which makes me mad at you for selling the XJ! 😁
Wow, thanks! And equally .. Im Sorry😔
Just had to replace my nearside mirror - it wasn't autodimming anymore. This helped a great deal. Thanks!
