All depends on ground moisture levels in the uk that construction would last 5-10 years before rot would start to effect the structural integrity of the retaining steps. I’ve known pressure treated decking to rot away in 4 years in ground contact situations. If you’re doing it to sell the house I guess it doesn’t matter much , someone’s else’s problem dine the line.
I just finished my Hillside steps. I went with all Lumber no filling. It would have been useful if you would have gave us some dimensions of the lumber you use the dimensions of the stairs. Mine is only for steps at a 20 degree angle all made with 2 by 8. I'll try and do a video pretty soon cheers.
yeah sorry. was never intended as a how to video. mostly just playing with time lapse and a GoPro and posting it so family could see, but I do believe they were 2x8's. it was 7 years ago I did the project so going by memory
never considered concrete for multiple reasons. #1 cost, #2 preferred the look of the wood and gravel, #3 and probably most important, I have no clue what I'm doing regarding concrete forming and finishing.
Concrete over dirt usually cracks before long, it’s a bit more work to do concrete slabs that’ll last. Not to mention removing concrete once it does get too old is a much more miserable job than gravel and sand
Love that music...tapping foot to beat..
Nice job, looks like it was 🔥.

We sold the house 3+ years ago so couldn’t say for sure but it was pressure treated lumber rated for ground contact, so it should be just fine
great
