I did not know this channel but I have to say that I really like the fact that you made a « review » video look like a small adventure. Usually, those videos are kinda boring, but this one, with the music and the beautiful shots is really entertaining.
To be fair, the FX3 is actually "cheaper" in that you can buy the same set-up with the a7SIII but the handle is around $600 additional making the combo about $200 usd more than the FX3. Also, when the FX3 came out it was literally the exact same functionality with menu's and all. Identical... ie if you didn't have a major need for the cooling fan (which the a7SIII doesn't overheat) and didn't need the XLR handle then the a7SIII was the better buy. Until Sony beefed up the functionality via multiple repeated firmware updates. As an a7SIII owner and a1 owner, Sony has some major issues to address and fix if they don't want to lose a large portion of their users. Why would I stay Sony if I have to buy the newer CHEAPER model to get a feature that should be in their flagship camera when literally every other camera company maintains features through their flagship lines! I love my Sony cameras but the company is majorly behind on this one!
Totally agree with you in some ways - the camera market is packed with great options which means Sony can't neglect it's users if it wants to keep them. My hope is that the a7S III and a1 at least get breathing compensation at some point which even the ZVE-1 has at this point... However in Australia, the FX3 is about $1000 less than the base a7S III which is still a meaningful difference if you don't need all the extra 'cinema' features, XLR handle and would like to have an EVF.
I bought an a7s a few years back on an insanely low ebay bid after it had been my dream camera for years. Sad to see it's been so outclassed, but still love my relic
Here's a story for you: a7sii owner here. I was in the market for a stills camera this year and ignored lookin at the a1 because Sony has ignored it was well. (in addition the a7siii) I can't imagine I'm alone in that, and they lost a good chunk of change because of it.
Way above my head as I know nothing about cameras but just love your videos! So entertaining. You could talk about anything and I would watch and listen!😀
I generally have high regard for Sony products, I have held quite a few in my hands over the years, the oldest one being a Walkman. The one I use the most these days would be the Sony Oxford plug-in suite. Chose Panasonic over Sony for my camera
I sold my a6600 a month before 6700 came out😊. Got myself a SIII for upgrade. As a hybrid shooter, view finder has use for me. As a small youtuber I am so happy with the camera. I just hope they sony put an update.
Really interesting timeline! Curious to know more about how we got to everything being a capable video camera. I wonder what the main technical breakthroughs were that blurred the lines between still and video oriented cameras.
Totally, it's fascinating! There have been so many but I think it mainly comes down to faster processors that generate less heat with faster storage. That's what's allowed all these cameras to record at very high resolutions and frame rates, where they only once had to do photos.
@@MattQuattro Yeah cool makes sense. It's all about taking high quality images and storing them and stringing them together as quickly and as cleanly as possible I guess.
This was a great video Matt! Loved the look and feel of it. It's definitely a shame that some of the new features that the FX3 has been receiving the last few months haven't made it across to the A7SIII, but as you mentioned in your video this is definitely Sony separating there camera lines more clearly. I've had my eye on the FX3 for a while, and with the most recent updates it's definitely solidified my direction in terms of camera, the only thing that's holding me back now is my bank account 😂.
Thanks Ben, I remember you telling me. Whichever camera you end up with they both produce amazing images, but obviously the FX3 has more flexibility now even being Netflix certified! But yes, I agree these aren't cheap investments. Spend on what's important first!
This is some killer storytelling Matt! . Your channel is so underrated. Looking at the production of your scenes, You seem like one of those OCD psychos who force fit story telling into absolutely anything. We come from the same clan 😂😂. And we believe the world needs more of us. (self pat 😁). We feel so glad that we discovered you channel. We don't give a rats ass about gear but we sure as hell will watch all your videos for the sheer storytelling. Good luck buddy, hope your channel makes it big. Cheers and Love from India 😀
Thank you so much, you are too kind! It sounds like we’re cut from the same cloth because you already know me too well 😂 But thanks for watching and all the best to you as well 🙏
Fantastic editing. I really enjoyed this video. Fellow a7SIII owner and while it's a bummer it hasn't gotten meaningful updates, it's still an amazingly capable camera. Interesting about the 4K DCI, I never heard that Sony said it's a sensor limitation, but they're not wrong if you consider the compromised implementation in the FX3/6 and FX30
Thanks for watching Phillip, I think the issue was Sony gave the FX6 DCI 4K but had some excuse for the a7S III until the FX3 eventually got it. But I agree, still a great camera!
Beautifully made as always Mr Quattro. Amazing set ups, great flow and very pretty footage, and that fresh face from waaaaaay back when! Impressive work as always!
Matty! Epic video mate! The ending was super SUPER great. Such a reverence for a camera that has meant a great deal to you and your career. Also PLEASE resurface baby MQ videos more often.... :P
Thank you for watching Matty! Yes I learnt a lot the hard way with that camera... And baby MQ needed to learn to take a chill pill, he was not on Nine News!!
I don’t see a reason to continue the s line with the fx3 on the market, unless they find some way to give the s line features their cinema line doesn’t have.
It’s a legend of a camera. Shane about DCI etc and all the good stuff pany does as par for the course… but who will even notice? The global shutter is the ultimate win
Totally disagree with this video. They should give the updates to the A7SIII and A1. These are flagship cameras. I mean come on the A1 is a $6500 camera. Shame on Sony for there dumbass marketing ideas. A lot of people are very pissed at this and should be. Give us 4k DCI, Cine EI, lens breathing compensation, and anamorphic squeeze. The cameras can do it why hold back. Don't be like Canon and cripple the camera.
HI I currently shoot with an older Xt3 and im looking to upgrade. Im trying to decide between 2 full frame cameras. The new Lumix s5iix or the older Sony A7siii. My use case is video only and im currently focused on realestate videos and some weddings, client work ect. My main concern is for filming real estate in 4k60. What would look better a7siii 4k60 or the lumix s5ii 4k60 cropped? Most high end videographers in the real estate industry use a7siii. Taking everything into account, noise, low light, Dynamic range, image quality ect which is better. My goal to get the best quality 4k 60 video. Thank you
Hi mate. Can't speak much to the S5II because I haven't used one - but having your 4K cropped, especially for real estate, will mean having to use wider lenses to capture the space. Just keep that in mind. But my understanding is both are good cameras and should be able to produce similar results. Best of luck.
I bought my first a7S3 in late 2020 ($3500). I bought my second a7S3 end of 2020 ($3200). I bought a third a7S3 in 2022 ($3000). Yeah I really like them and if I can get another a7S3 for $2500 I would get a fourth one in a heartbeat. For comparison, I have a Sony A1 for its 8.1K30fps (bike cam work ruclips.net/video/3KEY-0It08o/видео.html) and for high school track and field but the images from the a1 (Slog3) vs the a7S3 have the a7s3 wins every time for color and dynamic range. In this video, the bike cam video is from the a1 and the stationary finish line cameras are from two separate a7S3 all recording in 60fps slog3: ruclips.net/video/SSmsmdXLRbY/видео.html
I haven't used the R6 so I can only say the FX3 is a great camera and can produce high quality footage. However, it's also a lot more expensive than the R6 so if it comes down the budget, it might be the better choice.
There is a gap which Sony needs to fill. A fx3 mk2 which has evf and internal ND but retain the same form but beefier in size just like C70. FX6 is a bitch to use on gimbal. Most filmmakers use gimbal nowadays but slapping an ext ND on fx3 is a hassle.

Man I agree with a lot of what you said. In the end, I sold my a7sIII and went to another brand. Good video!
Thanks Francis. The competition is tough out there right now, hopefully you found a system that suits your needs better!
Dude, this was amazing!!
It has hints of Phillip Bloom in the best possible way! Epic video 🔥

I still own one and let me tell you it is in immaculate condition. 💪🏽🙏🏽
A rock star low light event camera for photographers
Yes it really is - paired with the 135GM it is absolutely stunning.
A7Siii is emotion 😅

Just got mine. Especially aimed for the A7sIII. Because of the Viewfinder.
Nice firmware 3.01

Yes,. But not every camera can do FF slow mo like 10bit 422 4k 120. Even not 60p FF. Most of them are APSC cropped
Great story telling, absolutely love this video!
That was awesome keep up the great work

The view finder in itself is a reason. Try using a flip out screen during a really bright day if doing run and gun stuff
Totally agree but also I use the viewfinder all the time. That's why I'm holding onto my a7S!
I still use the a7s iii more than my RED. Almost every day haha
Its still the best low light camera on the market.
Absolutely agree!

Loved it !
What a fantastic video production! Well done. To Sony no excuses give us the A7SIII firmware update. Flagship getting ignored. Shame shame shame.
Awesome video
I liked this whole video.
Does the FX3 have LUT support and how that compare with A7S III?
A7siii🎉!
I rushed to the camera store when the mark 3 came out but was shocked when they said $6k AU 😂😂😂
Totally. Although I've seen them for under $4K used now, so much more reasonable!

Great video! I had assumed that extra cooling on the FX3 provides more computational headroom?
Apparently so, although the a7S III has no issue with overheating. Maybe for 4K DCI it would need a fan but it seems like a stretch...
@@MattQuattro I think I'm just in denial that Sony would do anything wrong, too much of a fanboy 😅

8.40µm 🔥🔥🔥 Pixel pitch thats the reason its the king of low light
is the A7S III better than Panasonic S5 II X in low light ?
Great Content: If you purchase a camera today, would you recommend the sony fx3 or the canon r6 mark ii for doc/vlog content or any other suggestions?
I haven't used the R6 so I can only say the FX3 is a great camera and can produce high quality footage. However, it's also a lot more expensive than the R6 so if it comes down the budget, it might be the better choice.
so should i buy the a7siii , or the zve1?
Depends on what you're filming ZVE-1 has some better features for vlogging but the a7S III has the viewfinder and is more ergonomic to hold

Haha I went from 60D to OG A7S as well, and they sent me two Metabones adapters 😁😁
Lucky you, I just got the one!!
What do you mean it’s gone ?
It was originally titled the a7S is 'dead' but I changed it because that was a bit intense haha
Love my A7Siii, but this is the second time I've ben burned by Sony failing to support a great product. Enter the PSVITA. Never again Sony... -_-
When Canon does it you complain about the cameras being cripple but when Sony does it "I understand why they did it".... yeah....
The difference is the C200 was a hampered camera when it was released haha
Hurting 😅
