Edit: Not all of the Senate was open, the Senate is split into 3 groups that have their elections 2 years apart, meaning the people that just won their spots on the Senate will not be up for reelection for another 6 years but the other 2 groups will have their elections in 2020 and 2022 respectively.
@@Yeahhahaha Basically, a majority of the federal government was open for election, the House of Representatives are the people that write and pass bills that go on to the Senate (among other things) and the Senate vote on those bills and deal with appointing other positions such as who gets on the Supreme Court (among others). The entire House of Representatives was open for election and a third of the Senate was open (a term on the Senate is 6 years and they stagger the elections so that one third is up for election every 2 years), a majority of the states also had the ability to vote for their State Governor, who are kinda like the state equivalent of the President. There's two kinds of voters: those with strong political views, who care a lot about politics and don't need any encouragement to vote; and those who are moderate, who are oftentimes not engaged with politics and who sometimes don't bother to go and vote unless they're encouraged to do so. It's this second group that Kibler is encouraging to go vote, and it's this second group you definitely want to have a say in the future of your country!
