I was on the fence with the change at first, admittedly, just because my nostalgia for the Danny Devito inspired versions...but it honestly opens up a lot of fun opportunity to have the mom be The Penguin 🐧

Given Adam's shirt, I chose to include the full name in honor of another long named, Vengeance driven character. Whose 3rd season is only a few months away. I wonder if we will see him get his Vestige of Divergence this season?

You have to think of the Batman voice is his ACTUAL voice and it’s not put-on. When he isn’t around anyone that is how he sounds but in social settings it’s lighter and more charismatic

I read an interview with Hamish Linklater where he said something to the effect of he was thinking of Kevin Conroy when he was developing the voice and wanting to do Conroy justice, but he wasn't necessarily trying to imitate him. But when Linklater found the voice he wanted to use, it sounded like Conroy and he was very happy about that.

This show is good, but it lacks some of the soul of BTAS. I don't like Barbara being older, because Bruce Timm has some weird obsession with her and Bruce, if you remember from the old DCAU. But still, its good.
Was hoping ya'll would react to this. I binged the entire season in one day. I want MORE!! It's sooo dark!! Characters are killed on screen! I love it. The new origin stories for Harley and Clayface were my fave.
I binged the whole series today and loved it! The theme music feels borrowed from “The Usual Suspects” or “Basic Instinct,” but it fits the 30s/40s vibe of this. Minnie Driver is great as The Penguin and there are a lot of great guest voices coming up the rest of the season. The show is a great un-Iron Man-ing of Batman, stripping away the power armor and going seriously analog.
I'm hoping we get more of Penguin in season 2. Part of me wonders if Aaron and Ronnie were her only sons. If she has any more kids, I could see them going after Ronnie in season 2, to stop him testifying against "Mama," not to mention to pay him back for Aaron. I could also see a team up between Penguin and Catwoman, given their different attitudes, that could be entertaining, especially if they are both in a place where they both have nothing.

Catwoman has been portrayed as black in the comics, many shows, and movies for years now and she was swapped back to white in this, but go off I guess 🙄
The reason so many characters get race and gender swapped away from being white dudes is because the genre was SO white and SO male dominated for so long. The gender and race bending is more inclusive and more realistic. It’s the *correction* for how white and male all these stories were for decades. But guys like you never want to talk about that.

There’s an “othering” in that sentiment that sucks, man, intentional or not. Especially because Miles *is* “their” own spider-man. He’s a different guy. Different story. Different motivations. Different character. There’s no reason, for example, for the Penguin not to be a woman. There’s nothing inherently male about the character, except “this is how it’s always been,” which is a stupid reason to do *anything* in life. This version of the Penguin was even more cold and ruthless than a lot of the male penguin iterations have been over the years. I get that it isn’t coming *necessarily* from an ugly place for everyone. When a person (like white guys like us) is used to the status quo being overtly white and/or male for so long, a movement more towards *actual* equality can feel like oppression of some kind to the folks who are used to the status quo favoring them. But if you step back and achieve some perspective, nothing is being taken from us. Other people are gaining that which we’ve taken for granted for most of our lives. When we’re all more equal, we’re all more free.
I got maybe one ad per episode. The only intrusive part was they were inconveniently placed throughout the episode. I don’t think that’s enough to warrant pirating it at least from my perspective.

I'm really glad that you like this show, I think it is one of the best executed superhero shows that I've seen in a while.
