It was probably some bs grudge he held but Dillon never asked to see Long’s rifle. In the past, he always asked to see a suspect’s weapon to see if it was fired.
@@TowGunner Perhaps it was too long afterwards to be conclusive. And nothing says he couldn't have shot at an animal or something after killing the men.

Hmmm. None of the story explains why the first nester Hoffer wanted to kill the other one named Long in the first place!
