Thanks. Was wondering how it worked and I suspected it was as you described. Aand as I understand it.....That 87A is Normally Closed so therefore there is power available to the dual-terminal pressure switch when the IGN power is available, the pressure switch is made up when tranny pressure gets high enough in 4th gear, at that point the solenoid gets energized and allows Torque Converter Lockup..... so now we're cruising along in Overdrive with the Torque Converter locked in Overdrive....... in the typical straight-forward brake switch.... Pushing on Brake Pedal (to engergize the brake lights) ALSO energizes the coil in the relay and "flops" that N.C. 87A to the "OPEN" position and cuts power to the solenoid....therefore the tranny then drops out of Overdrive.... Did I understand that correctly?
hey 1990 k5 blazer with the 700r4 i converted from tbi to carb so i dont have the computer for lock up anymore...so i hook a toggle switch up with the 3 wires from my pig tail plug do i leave my switch on at all times or will i mess up something if i dont shut it off when im at a low soeed...i appreciate your feedback.....
just saw your message. No it will not hurt anything to have power to the Tcc at all times if your torque converter is ONLY locking up at highway speeds .It will be problem at highway speed if you panic brake the converter stays locked up just like a clutch your truck should have the brake switch i showed i recommend you run power to it that way. you only need power one of those wires to power the tcc switch either direct for 1wire or to 4th gear preassure switch of it a 2wire . the other two wires are usually for a vacumn switch inthe engine compartment and 3rd gear pressure switch.hope that helps
Nice job. I have a Th200c it's supposed to be but all wiring is missing and I have the lockup torgue conv too. What parts I need to buy to make it happen?
I just seen the video again i see tht brake switch dont need the relay the set u show does thanks for the info im do the brake switch on my truck i already got it thnk u again
Is a great video, you are amasing. I just have a little question, with the th2004r.... when the brake pedal is applied does it restrict the 12 volts or provide 12 volts to the solenoid?
sorry bout that it cuts off the power going to the solenoid, the 12v wire going from the brake switch or relay depending on what you use will have constant power ,until you press the brakes
@@ozcorr909 thanks you are a master... i was about to connect it wrong, I would have connected that wire to had power only when I pressed the brake pedal
@@casperttoo your welcome if you had nothing bad would happen the solenoid just wouldn’t in gauge because the fourth gear pressure switch has to complete the circuit either by grounding itself out or completing the positive circuit depending on how yours is wired.
with the key on the tcc circuit is always closed (complete) until you press the brakes this will open(break) the tcc circuit, while closing (completing the brake light circuit
Can a 4l80E lock-up solenoid try to lock up right from 0 mph and slowly accelerating from there keep trying to lock up? If I unplug the electrical power harness and the tranny goes into limp mode (2nd gear only) it runs perfectly smooth all the way up 60-70mph and back down. As soon as we plug electrical power back to the tranny right from 0 mph its trying to bog the engine down, vibrate, bucking and noise. It does that through all gears. If its popped into nuetral while coasting all of that bad stuff stops 100%.
im not a transmission expert with that being said ive had a similar issue where the lockup solenoid itself was stuck open all the time when id get past 65 it was like trying to stop a manual car without a clutch pedal ,wire harness connected or not ,Yours sound like the shift solenoid is commanding the lockup solenoid to open when its connected to harness id start by checking the shift solenoids
I have been having issues with my tcc being stuck locked in second/third/fourth gear on my 200 4r. Can I just use a toggle switch instead of the brake switch you showed here?
just saw your message .yes you can use a toggle switch ,FIRST you can also unplug the connection from the side transmission the tcc should not engage at all . if stays locked up it can be that the tcc solenoid is stuck open .ive had this happen on a 200r4 before youd have to drop the pan and remove the solenoid if you can blow through it youll have to replace it
@@Abdulrahman_M that will definitely work best bet is it to change over to one wire 4th gear lock up only and use the brake switch or relay to disengage that way you don’t forget to turn your toggle on when you go on the freeway
I just run power to the solenoid. If 4th switch is single plug I use it to ground solenoid, if it's dual plug I run power through it to solenoid and ground it to one of the mounting bolt. I just leave it hot all the time. As far as 4th gear braking goes you don't notice it as you have your foot off the gas already.
Very useful, clear enough to be done by the next transmission rebuild.
Appreciated.,👍
thank you glad it help
Thank you very much for your video, very helpful and well explained. I been looking for this for a while now.

look up tcc lockup kit many available come with everything you need
Where can i get the brake switch can u tell what year car i should look for to get brake switch the relay im sure auto parts
go to ebay type in (gm brake light switch with cruise control )any pre 1985 will work and you wont need the relay

Will this wiring setup work with a 4L80e if the solenoids are hardwired to manually shift with a floor shifter?
yes it is basically a cut off switch cutting power to torque converter lock up switch when you hit the breaks

Ok thanks. Is there only one kind of lock up solenoid to purchase for all 4L80Es? Or are there different types?
kits on amazon are listed as 1991-2003 ,knowing the donor vehicle is best though
Will this setup work on a 6l80e transmission?
yes
ive been enlightened thank you.

Is that oil pressure switch a internal or external switch?
internal 4th gear pressure switch

Im gonna do this bit just skip the relay and have it kill power straight thru the brake switch
👌the relay would only be necessary if you are not able to use the old style gm brake/cruise control off switch
