Alright hello and welcome to a video of me discussing the time where dick dastardly was disqualified from a wacky race that he legitimately won.
Or was he rightly disqualified for cheating?

Back when I watched the show as a child, I actually thought that DD was hired by the judges/producers to make the race more interesting... it certainly explained the way he acted/was treated, and was more "excusable" than the judges simply hated him
No I don't think he should has been DQed. Because another racer did the exact same thing and won. Rufus Ruffcut and Sawtooth physically extended his neck just as far as Dick extended his car to win in one episode.
That's right i remember that episode.
Don't forget the fact that Peter Perfect almost always uses that technique due to the shape of his car.
Loved this show, and still do. I personally think that poor Dick Dstardly should've gotten one victory at least. That guy deserved and needed a W to his name, at least one. Villain, yes, but also the best, funniest and just all round most entertaining character in the show as well as others. A classic 60's character and a mainstayer in my childhood memories.
He is one villain you won't mind routing for, I think it would have been cool if in the final episode he did end up winning. It is such a fun cartoon to watch. I notice stuff now that i wouldn't have quite understood when i was young as well.
He has won once.
He has won a few races from the Fender Bender 500 show that was featured on Wake Rattle and Roll.

Definitely a valid point there at the end. Especially as the other racers were using all manner of gadgets to beat each other to the line so can see why Dastardly just set up naughty traps to scupper them. He kind of reminds me of Wile E Coyote when those traps always fail against him. Judges will be judges as they say.
Pat pending was possibly just as naughty as dick. He would transform his car into anything which is surely cheating.
Sometimes the traps would work for dick only for one of the racers to find a way to escape and help everyone else.
The judges are almost as rigged as eurovision.

If Dastardly focused on winning instead of screwing all the others up he'd already have won all races
True. but some of the races..
As a kid, I formed exactly the same theory. The replay was obviously tampered with. In those days, it wasn't acceptable for certain characters (designated villains) to win. The earlier footage showed Dick's car, with enough momentum to have won, without extending his car. Nearly all of the other gadget driven cars can extend their fronts - even Red Max's plane. The replay footage was entirely inconsistent with the earlier footage. A variation I had thought of, was that it was in Dastardly's contract to lose, and his actual job was to ensure that no one got too far ahead. In the end, he decided to show off, as a middle finger to the race administrators. However, there were ample archives of manufactured stock cheating footage, to ensure that he never won.
Maybe the whole thing is actually just entertainment with a pre determined outcome, and that race was kind of like that one time the Washington Generals actually accidentally won against the Harlem Globetrotters . But as you say they just manipulated the footage afterwards to make it seem like he actually lost
I loved watching that series back in the days haha Definitely sad to always see Dick Dastardly losing the races but to be fair I was always thinking that he was also first to get front of all the racers, and he was wasting time trying to put traps for the other racers 😂 Loved this video again, thanks for it Sam \o/
It was so fun to try guess who might win. I would have my favourites who i would hope to see win. He had the fastest car, but he didn't want to win just by driving from start to finish, he just wanted to make sure nobody else finished

Agree in retrospect that Dick was robbed of victory - other racers pulled shenanigans and were not disqualified. What else can I say that judges are like anyone else, especially those in public office: capable of being bought and hypocritical.
I love this as a small boy .
Its clear Dastardly won the race (even if he _did_ stretch the front of his car, other racers get up to the same shit, Rufus Roughcut "won" one race by much the same method using his inhumanly long sauropod-like neck and Peter Perfect won by just having a longer car). There don't appear to be any actual rules and the judges just really have it in for Dick Dastardly.
Yes, Dick was robbed technically because when you watch another episode, Rufus Ruffcut literally extends his head in order to win the race.
The Lumber Jack did the same thing in one of the episodes by stretching his neck out real long toward the finish line and won a race.
But when Dasterdly does it .

Dick had the best car and could have won most of the races, but instead he couldn't resist stopping all the time to cheat.
😅😅 Even though Dick Dasterdly was a villain & yes i was reading another comment and some of his schemes often backfired reminds me that of Wile E. Coyote. However that photo finish was horrible. Dick Dasterdly actually did win that race.😳 I really applaud you for showing the real deal of this when you slowed down the actual instant replay that clearly states that Dick Dastertly & Muttley did cross the finish line first not that front line car extension device on the 00😅 Boo to them judges & writers not to Dick Dasterdly. It was a contreversal episode ? I am surprised that viewers didn't write in at the time this aired. But we both know better you got this right on target & in total agreement Dick Was Robbed.

that pissed me off as a kid. Am i the only one who wanted Dick to win, The Coyote to catch the Road runner and for Tom to eat Jerry? Just let them win!
Actually Wile E. Coyote did catch the Road Runner in the mechanical copy giant robot of himself but as always a malfunction & the Roadrunner escaped . Don't worry Jerry didn't always win either Tom did get even in some episodes. 😅 Technically Dick Dastardly did win that race i believe a few others to.
I agree 100%! And to add to this, someone stretched his neck out to win (I think the Arkansas Chug-A-Bug) and wasn't disqualified. Also, I agree that it was probably the first race to take place, as if you notice, Dastardly's traps were more in line with the kind the other racers were setting. Only after this episode did he focus more on cheating. In this one, it was just a tactic to win.

Yes, it was Rufus Ruffcut as he extended his neck to win the race as I think it was the slag brothers who were going to win it.
What's crazy is that, stretching out is against the rules, but we see racer number 2 The Gruesome Twosome doing exactly that in this very video. So it's very unfair with how Dick Dastardly was treated in this episode, and honestly, Dick looked so happy and accomplished.
Something always confused me as a kid.
When all the other racers would use their different gimmicks to take the lead or win the race, it was okay.
But when Dastardly would do the same thing, he'd get disqualified.
Smacks of BS, if you ask me.
When I was a kid I thought all these characters were from their own cartoons and this was some kind of all-star show.
It could also be that the judges don't see what's going on during the entire race and are there to see the end in case of a close finish. And in that moment, they only saw Dick cheat in front of them.
Great point there... its not called wacky races for nothing... why DD was disqualified was beyond me... actually no... he was dq because the show really wanted him to never finish a podium... but aside from that DD and Mutley are the reason people even whached the show... they are the comedic relief in a comedic cartoon... not to mention the mean machine is the best looking car bar none... it resembles the batmobile... its also the fastest and has the most gadgets (even more then profesor pat tending's car)... the video game of the same show clearly done DD justice... in that game playing with the mean machine is like playing on easy mode... its by far the best car...
I love Wacky Races, and I agree with you on Dick Dastardly. It's very hypocritical and unfair that he gets shamed on his dirty tricks that hardly work, but everyone else does the same thing. Dick dastardly and Muttley were my favorites. I also liked the Ant hill mob, Penelope Pitstop (who is a damsel in distress done correctly, unlike princess peach or Olive oil from Popeye), The professor, and the cavemen brothers!
I won't agree with the announcer in a unfair race no matter how dastardly does without he's still cheating to why he stopped to give muttley his signature which was not absurd but just to show that dastardly must never cheating or no cheating
Yeah there are some odd reasons for him not winning a race.
Usually he was prevented from winning right before the finish
But as you mentioned he stopped to sign a signature for muttley and than just never continued in the race.
as if he didn't want to win. Plus one where after realising it would be a photo finish he got out the car to pose for a photo.
And the cartoon doesn't make any sense except either that it's a wacky race
The funniest thing I never appreciated as a kid when seeing this on Boomerang is the very premise. Dastardly's car is the fastest most aerodynamic one of the lot. Literally a fucking rocket on wheels. It's piss easy for him to get up to 1st position without even consciously trying to win that way but he fucks it up because he just has to cheat. Dude has the best car but chooses to fail because the show needs a villain.
I swear there was an episode where he won. I remember seeing it as a kid and being amazed!
He "won" the race in Creepy Trip to Lemon Twist, but the judges pulled a "photo finish" ending where it showed that car #00 had extended it's nose to win the race, so Dick/Muttley were disqualified, however in another episode, Rufus Ruffcut extends his neck so he can win the race.
I'm sure I remember DD winning one.
"Take care and leave me alone" is an awful lot like "That's all I've got for today. Go away now."
It is inspired by Charlie brooker, he had a show called newswipe and at the end he would just say something along the lines of go away.
I made a quick search to see who won the most races. If the source is correct then Penelope Pitstop (Compact Pussycat), the Ant Hill Mob (Bullet Proof Bomb), Lazy Luke and Blubber Bear (Arkansas Chug-a-bug) and Peter Perfect (Turbo Terrific) each won 1st places 4 times. Their cars aren't the best, yet they still won the most races. My guess is that they bribed the judges. Penelope is filthy rich and manipulative, the Ant Hill Mob, well the name speaks for itself, Peter Perfect is Penelope's husband so she probably bought him some wins too and Lazy Luke probably bribed the judges by letting their kids play with his bear.
The writers and animators won't let Dick win .
I wish they would’ve given him at least one win. That’s why I loved Laff-A-Lympics. The Really Rottens surprised everyone and actually won overall in two episodes
I think the main person who robbed Dick Dastardly of wins was himself, his car is fast enough to get far ahead of the others in every race but he wastes time and ends up losing by trying to sabotage the others

Yeah they stole that from him. Guy literally had a experimental rocket car that probally could fly if it had wings.
My theory is that one of the rules that defines what counts as cheating is that if a racer does something to obscure another racer while still in their own car, then that is not cheating. That's just using the features you built into your vehicle to earn you an advantage.
So, Professor Pat Pending using a freeze gun to freeze the Gruesome Twosome is legal since it is still attached to his vehicle.
Dick Dastardly getting out of his vehicle and setting a booby trap is illegal because he has to get out of his care to give himself an advantage.
This theory has some holes, since it assumes each combatant made their own cart which is the case given how personalized they are. And this doesn't excuse the win that was taken way from Dick. Also, it's been a while since I've seen Wacky Races so I can't remember if there were other racers who got out of their car to give themselves and advantage. If that's the case, then this theory doesn't hold water.

Other racers didn't go out the way to cheat they stayed on course and took cheap shots where as Dick would go to inexcusable methods to try and cheat
Actually Pat Pending would often or not cheat by turning his car into things like a motorcycle or rockets etc or even a basketball.
If Dastrasly is supposed to pass racers at high speed without cheatings why doesn't the other racers do the same thing rather than cheat!?

I think he mostly came close to losing in some cases but he and Muttley still cheat in them and same with catching Yankee Doodle Pigeon
There is one key plot element that got overlooked. Dick Dastardly is the villain of a 1960s cartoon for children. You're not supposed to analyze the story. Just shut up, eat your Frosted Flakes, and enjoy your Saturday morning cartoons.

It isn’t fair that Dick Dastardly never won a Wacky Race! He is my favourite character in the entire series and I wish he’d won at least one race! In the episode “Creepy Trip to Lemon Twist” I swear that Penelope Pitstop was behind all of this and made sure Dastardly lost the race. The judges edited the replay footage poorly. Dastardly clearly won the race even without cheating!
It would have been awesome if he won the final race, that would have been a great ending
