    George, you are a jewel of a person and a national treasure to us sellers!❤❤❤🤗🤗🤗 The men’s brown shoes with a black saddle are saddle oxfords, wing tips have a separate , somewhat decorative piece of leather layered on top of the toe of the shoe. I feel uncomfortable telling you that because I know NOTHING compared to you. I’m a 75 year old lady and I only know a saddle Oxford because I used to wear such a shoe to school every day until junior high. 😂 Love you George. 🥰❤

    Hi George,
    The prices at company run estate sales really bug me these days. They think they are antique stores! I hate it when I hear them talk about Ebay prices and think they should charge the same. I’m sure the estate owner hopes to make some money, but don’t they actually want to unload their stuff?!

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  Год назад +2

      I am old school and think the job is to unload as much as you can for the fairest price (to buyer and seller) as possible in as short a time as possible! By leaving some meat on the bone for resellers, I get a ton of people who then buy all the other stuff in the house, instead of cherry pickers and collectors who buy one thing and leave the boring household goods (that usually add up to half the take at a sale).

      I really appreciate that you collect beverage sets! If I ever have the pleasure to be in your area, I would love to chronicle them for other collectors to learn. I hate passing on good studio pottery, but there's so much that I only buy what I can identify. The crucifixes are something I always get when I can, they pit into odd spaces...and are strangely popular with Japanese buyers in Seattle! Happy New Year, I took a lot of Dr. Pepper pix today so stay tuned

    • @CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS
      @CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS Год назад +1

      @@TheAntiqueNomad I do like the beverage sets, but they take considerable real estate to display them. It would be super-fun to have you chronicle my beverage sets! I think there are upwards of 50 sets here now. Most are full-sized sets, and there are a few miniature/child's sets.
      I think it would be fun to research some of the studio pottery. There could well be some "sleeper" pieces today that will "wake" in the future. A collection of it could be quite beautiful, too, if really good pieces were chosen, even if they weren't by well-known makers.
      I used to have, in that large house I had, a wall devoted to crucifixes. There are a few hung here, but no room to hang all of them. Some of the ones I have, I bought the corpuses at thrift stores, then made the crosses for them.

    Something you said struck me. You said these are retail prices. This is not a retail store. In my area the estate sale companies have houses where they stash stuffnthat didn’t sell in houses and then call it an estate sale. They kind of run it like a store with a once a quarter sale. It seems in my opinion that would be the best way to make money off a losing bet. I don’t mean to offend or say that i is wrong. I think it is still a good deal for people with limited funds to recycle perfectly good household and collectible stuff. Like me!

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  Год назад +2

      I agree! Retail prices are for retail stores. When I do an estate sale, I price the things to sell from the house to people who are there...considering eBay takes a percentage and then the seller has to package and ship and pay postage, it really makes no sense to price things too high, you aren't ultimately making more money on the average household item or moderately valued collectible!

      If you have the original South Bend premiere program, then you would have some value for certain! They're worth a little even if not though. If you use albums, don't use the ones that hold things in with sticky surfaces

      @@TheAntiqueNomad thank you, George! original program and it’s in really good shape. I have it in some protective paper. I will not put them in an album. I’ll let you know what happens.

    When I hit estate sales, I glance around the main floor and then head to the basement where the bargains are. After the basement, I checkout the kitchen . Why did you pass up the 75 cent piece at the beginning of the video? Was there damage you saw and didn’t point out? Remember in Michigan we have estate sales all through the week. And if you are ever in Grand Rapids you can walk through my house and fill a basket! I am serious.

      I think that's a good strategy! Michigan has good estate sales and they seem to price to sell. I would love to see you in Grand Rapids, maybe in 2023! As for the 75 cent piece, I honestly don't see anything in the beginning of the video priced that cheap...if it was a Lladro it was $75

    Oak Lawn is a pretty expensive suburb. Probably overpriced like the real estate.

      I think the sellers at house #1 thought they'd try selling to collectors at full price. I think they will find that was a losing strategy and that the pieces didn't sell until discounted to estate sale prices.

      If that's the case, then just sell it on eBay, what are you waiting for? I still found stuff I could resell though
