Thank you for the video. I spent six hours fixing mine. The lint inside horrendous, so the majority of my time was cleaning. This saved me a probable dyer fire and as a retired Fire Captain a dyer fire wouldn’t be good. My wheel fell off the shaft as opened it up. The video saved us from purchasing a new dryer.

That's exactly why I made it. Glad it helped. These machines are really dead simple. Most of the things that go wrong are fixable with a few bucks worth of parts and a bit of swearing.

It worked for me! Even the know-it-all guy next store said he wouldn't tackle gutting and rebuilding a dryer, but thanks to your video, I did! And she's running smooth and quiet now. Just one screw leftover, but I've had a loose screw for decades! Thank you!

Good video. I have the gas version of the same dryer and it's been thumping since I got it. When I called to complain about it, they said that's how it's supposed to sound until it warms up. At first, it did quiet down after a few min but now, all these years later, it's a constant barrage of thumping, the whole time. After seeing your ordeal oh, I think I'm going to take the cheap option that you pointed out at the end of the video. With any luck I'll be able to Finance the project with my findings in the lint trap. Thanks for posting.

This video helped me out immensely. I have the same model. I took the back off to access the rear wheels. I removed those via the reverse threaded nuts. I was able to access the front wheels without removing the drum as I did not replace the belt. I removed the front lower panel and the air turbine cover to get to the front rollers. These were also removed via the nuts which are normal threaded for the front rollers. Installation of the turbine cover was easier to reinstall by also removing the lint holder and then reinstalling that last. Thanks again for your video. You saved me a chunk of change, not counting the coins found during the repair.

Okay…this was my first foray into Dork Energy…and I am hooked. I took your suggestion and only replaced the back two wheels…and Thumpy no more. The insight and comedic aspect of this were first rate and I am ready for my next DIY project and hopefully you will happen to have a video to provide the same laughter and Everyman know how to kill it!

If you are poor and dont want mess all front panels. That rear backside on left wheel (when taking back panel off) is one that usually goes bad. Replace or Swap out the other rear wheel into that spot and hit it with some wheel bearing grease or lithium grease.

  • @randyWCG

Good video, especially taking time to show the symptoms. There’s an ergonomic way to do this without removing the back. Check the repair clinic site.

  • @SignorLuigi

I think I'll pray that the same single rear wheel has gone bad on my dryer as yours. Then I'll just replace the two back wheel assemblies since you were able to get at those without much disassembly at all. I'll keep the other 2 wheels and pulley in the bag and hoped I never need then! Thanks.
Follow up: I found a set of two rollers on Amazon. They had good reviews (some of these 3rd party replacement roller sets have a fair amount poor reviews...so caution). As I mentioned earlier, I decided to not replace the belt or front rollers. To much chance of doing more harm than good, IMO. I noticed when replacing the back rollers that the track the rollers ride on the drum was rough with debris in spots. Also the seam where the drum was welded together was rough. I thought that could also be contributing to the rough, rumbling sounds. So I used some very fine sandpaper and 0000 steel wool to remove the debris. I also used a fine file to smooth the joint. I did this for both the front and back of the drum as I could access things from the top while turning the drum. The thumping sound is reduced. There is still a small thump once per revolution and I suspect that is due to remaining imperfections in the drum track. I should listen to other dryers and see if a tiny thump per revolution is normal behavior. I have had my 4e dryer for about 15 years so there's is no way I can remember how it sounded when new! Good luck to anyone who also takes on this repair. Remember those nuts holding the rear roller axle are REVERSE THREADED!!!!!

Thank you so much for making this video. I have the exact same color and model. I had to replace the same parts yesterday. I knew what the problem was but I have a home warranty so I had the man come out and fix it. All quiet now except that he broke the digital display on my dashboard. He also didn't like the way it sounded so he is ordering a new drum. I think it sounds great but he didn't. I am just a little pissed about the display. But he is ordering one. Next time I am for sure fixing it my self. Thank you again.

If you have a light thump take top off and clean where the wheels ride on the drum on the outside edges by the felt strip. Mine was thumping and i cleaned the black caked on gunk and it reduced it by 75 percent. Also ground down the edges where the drum seam is welded together.

I just got through this same job. It was actually easier than I thought, since you already made the mistakes for all us sinners. The OEM part kit had some "instructions" that were worthless. Thanks for putting this out there to help keep these machines out of landfills. Now go buy yourself some caramels.

    • @dork3nergy
      @dork3nergy  Год назад

I think so. You might have a switch near the pully for the the belt that is activated if the belt is broken (ie. no tension). Not sure if this model has that.

Here's a tip for you. Find the part you need on one of those appliance repair sites. I think this is what you are looking for :
      www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Drum-Roller-Axle/WPW10359272/1878663
Copy the part number and paste it into an eBay search.

Your afterword worry about not needing to replace anything but that clip is most probably not true, as the bushing is worn down enough to allow the wheel to wobble of its axis.
True that replacing the washer alone may have fixed most of the problem, it would've been a very temporary fix and you almost surely would've needed to redo the full repair much faster than the echoes of your recorded cursing had actually gone silent.
