Hello!! Ooh so excited to hear your final thoughts on the Public Burning! I was interested in it when I first heard you mention it, but now I'll be less eager to pick it up. I've read one James Baldwin so far this month, and hoping to get to one other. Hope you continue to have a great reading month!
Ah fair enough about The Public Burning, sounds like not my bag either. Ah. The Idea book. Almost never seems to be something pulled off. Baldwin! Has yet to disappoint me.
Agree about Baldwin 🙂 I feel like 'big Idea' books are rarely done well. One I can think of that comes close to working for me is Colson Whitehead's The Underground Railroad.
I keep feeling awkward about being mentioned on the Coover buddyread as I clearly never got into it 😅 But I'm glad I got to listen in on your thoughts! The Baldwin is definitely off to a better start. Intrigued by the found poem you read.
@@CourtneyFerriter they were just briefly mentioned-one or two sentences. I could swear there were maybe two books I read this year, in which they were mentioned. I’m sorting through my read lists. 🤔
Thanks, Bethanne! Yes, it's a shame about the less-good reads, but out of over 50 books I've read this year, I've only had half a dozen 2/2.5 star reads so far, so I think those are pretty good stats. (Meanwhile, I've only had two 5-star reads, so I'd love to up that number by the end of the year!)
Good thing we are reading a Baldwin as sounds like this has not been a stellar month so far. I remember enjoying The Hare With The Amber Eyes.
Baldwin and the Tallulah Bankhead bio I started today are making up for some of this month's lesser reads! 🙂
Yay! Nice to see you, Courtney! June has been Caribathon and friends' books and Botanical Poisons, so far! 🙌🏼😉
Thanks, Margaret! Hope you have been enjoying Caribathon and your other reading so far. 🙂
Beka Lamb was a great start! 🤩
I have that Coover book but havent read it . . . . .
Looking forward to your thoughts on the George Saunders writing book.
Maybe there's a good reason to continue to put off reading the Coover novel 😉 I will report back on Saunders!
Good to see you Courtney! 😊
Thanks, Summer! Hope you are well. 😊
I am looking forward to your thoughts on American Baby! And wow, you've sold me on Felon, adding it to my TBR now....
Nice to see you, friend! Can't wait for our IRL reunion in less than a month!!
Me too! 🤗

The Public Burning was definitely a slog. So glad you are reading Baldwin - love his work so much. Hope you are doing some great reading, Kevvie! 🙂
Impatiently awaiting your thoughts on A Swim in the Pond.
I recorded my thoughts for the BTP judging vlog on that one today. Sorry I can't say anything more until August...
Hopefully Baldwin is making up for other books this month.
He is! I also started a Tallulah Bankhead biography today and am entertained so far.
Hey Courtney! I have yet to start my Booktube Prize reading for this round! 😱
Hi Heidi! You probably have fewer books to read for this round than I do - I am sure you will make it through them! 🙂
Ah fair enough about The Public Burning, sounds like not my bag either.

@@CourtneyFerriter yeah that was a good book! And I actually really liked the tv show too. Pleasantly surprised by both for different reasons.
@@SpringboardThought I didn't even know about the TV show version! It is on one of the streaming platforms?
@@CourtneyFerriter it’s on prime here in Canada I’m not sure if they made it

You still contributed to our discussion, and yes, agree about Baldwin. You might like Felon - the found poems were really good.
The Rosenbergs have come up in a couple books I read this year… trying to recall what they were.
Ooh, do tell! I am a sucker for a book about the Rosenbergs.

@@CourtneyFerriter I think they were mentioned in Red Comet… Sylvia was intrigued by their story.
@@illustratorsam Oh yeah, that tracks. I think their execution is mentioned in the first sentence of The Bell Jar.
Some really interesting books in here, but a bummer that you had two 2.5 stars so close together!

@@CourtneyFerriter Fingers crossed for more 5-star reads for you!
@@bethannebruninga-socolar Thank you! 😊
I think you are at your mom’s? Nice to see you.
I am, at least for two more weeks. Thanks, Glenda! Hope you are well.
Maximalist writers are not my thing.
Not for me either!
