Cortana: You did that on purpose didn't you? Master Chief: (thinking to himself) That's what you get for transporting me inside a covenant ship upside down and six feet off the ground.
Thank you for not talking during cutscenes. This way we can enjoy the story and a nice walkthrough. You wouldn't believe how many people talk and talk and talk straight through cutscenes.
***** when I was 7 I always played this mission and it always made me emotional halo 1 and 2 are probably the two greatest games of all times I love them :)
Halo 1 was the childhood man i still remember, i was playing this in like 2001 or 2002 and beating the game when i was 7.. That felt like my biggest achievement in gaming eventhough i was playing on easy, the story was just too fantastic and epic and i felt super satisfied as a kid beating the game, adrenaline shot out of proportion when i first drove that warthog down the pillar of autumns last stretch, amazing memories... and then i went on playing it over and over, probably beat it like 6-7 times all on easy, i think 1 time on normal i tried to do it in a higher difficulty, but yeah Halo Combat Evolved is one of the greater if not the best games in gaming history of all time for me.
I don't know about everyone else, but I was majorly bummed out that Foe Hammer died at the end. Even though we never saw her, she was as badass as Johnson. =(
Well if you really want to know SPOILER ALERT: It's set directly after CE. Basically after Chief and Cortana escape the ring, they stumble across a group of human survivors in a pelican, one of whom is Sgt. Johnson. Together they capture a covenant ship and take it back to Reach where they find seven Spartan IIs (Fred, Kelly, Linda, Will, Anton, Li and Grace) who were stranded there as well as Halsey and an Admiral called Whitcomb. They learn of a massive covenant staging ground being used to prepare an invasion of Earth so they take the captured ship to its location and destroy the invasion force. In the process, three Spartans and all of the human survivors die save Sgt. Johnson. Halsey goes rogue and escapes with Kelly. That's about as brief a summary as I can give you. Still you should really read the book for yourself. It's worth it :-)
That elite in the elevator you killed with a grenade and a few rockets is actually a big part of the story canonically believe it or not. And actually set up traps for you through out the game. It's always funny how easily he can be taken out by the player lol
Completely random: On seeing The Pillar of Autumn in such a dilapidated state, did anyone else get the same feeling as seeing Titanic underwater and corroded gave them? The way the camera pans across it is so reminiscent of when the footage of when they first found Titanic.
Never realized this till now but the landscape on the ring makes the Autumn look so small. You' play an entire level inside of that ship, twice. It really shows you the scope of how massive the universe in the game is.
Or it just shows you how much they stuff the maps with INFINITE enemies to drag it out. I got an achievement for killing 1000 flood in only one mission. Let that sink in.
Hey, I just wanted to thank you for such a wonderful walkthrough - just completed Halo CEA on Legendary on my Xbox 360, something I haven't done since purchasing the game new in 2011! Thanks for your help.
I adore the ending of this level so much, the break neck pace is incredible. That being said my stickler side comes out when I see the 2 km marker. The Pillar of Autumn is only 490 meters in length so it should be a quarter of this size.
13:05 *"Oh no.*" "CHIEF DON'T YOU HEAR THAT MUSIC? THAT'S A 4/4 STRING OSTINATO IN D MINOR! EVERY SPARTAN KNOWS IT MEANS DEATH! ACTIVATE HALO BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE! HURRY JOHN THE MUSIC'S GETTING FASTER!!"
@@SoldierOfFate I've just came back to playing Halo again after a hell of a long time and I'm actually struggling with the warthog part. I've done it before in the past, but coming back to it after a long time it's difficult. I keep on getting killed at the same part as I've forgotton what the best routes to take and I keep on flipping over and dying because of those Sentinels. It's just so frustrating.
One thing i absolutely love about halo CE is every single mission adds something new. Because of this, even though missions 1 and 10 are in the same setting they're completely different experiences.
omg same, i played this for the first time when i was like 10 (i'm 20 yo now)and the first encounter with The Flood creeped me out so much that i never played it anymore XD i just finished playing it, i love this game.
Thank you hokiebird for making halo guides. 7 years ago i was that halo noob and now ive found myself able to complete the games on legendary with little to no issues. Hope you are doing well put there.
Billion years late, but this guide really helped me to beat the game on legendary, idk if you'll see this but thanks for the guide! I actually enjoyed the game even more with this challenge
When I was a kid I played CE and when I first met flood I was literally shook and couldn't sleep that day, anyhow I completed the game, anyway a great experience. I was shaking badly that day
Ah, Foehammer...she was a good character, I wish she survived and made it into the later games. Definitely more memorable than Hocus. Her death made me sad :(
Her name gets mentioned I know when Johnson calls for evac in Sierra 117, the opening cutscene to The Ark and other times such as the elevator ride to the platform in Crow's Nest and the beginning of the Covenant. But yeah, pretty dull character. No personality.
Returning to the Pillar of Autumn...it feels so eerie and sad that the ship that was once teeming with Marines and other personnel is now a ghost ship that is filled with Flood hosts, the Covenant remnants, and the Sentinels trying to prevent you from escaping Halo.
Just wanted to say thank you for making these legendary guides. I absolutly bet that no one has strategies that are better than yours and you haven't died once. (Except for the unedited deaths that you mentioned in Keyes). Anyway, this was a great run and I hope you keep making these guides in the future. Liked and subbed.
This game and this last mission is awesome. After war and after reactors are destroyed, then you drive away to the star ship and for the ending quiet music.
Thanks for your videos 1st time i finish a game in the hardest difficulty i think and your videos help me in some sections of level when i needed and i not watch all of them to improve by myself. Thanks a lot.
A tip for the last race in the warthog. Whenever you are jumping off a ramp, briefly release the forward/accelerate key a split second before the jump. Keep it unpressed during the jump. Press the key again just as you land. If keep the forward key pressed during the jump, the nose of the warthog will dip and a) you probably won't make the jump especially onto an elevated platform and b) the warthog will flip. @Hokiebird: On heroic, I found the rocket launcher in the infinite spawn flood area on going back. Dunno if does on legendary or maybe original and anniversary are different. Also, I used to use the rocket launcher to take out the elites. But I liked your way much more. Thanks for the walkthroughs. While I had developed many tactics pretty similar to yours, some tricks were just absolutely awesome. Pretty useful, too. Cheers!
Finally done, I'm so glad I managed to do this, I don't think I'd have been able to if not for you, or at the least it would have taken WAAAAAAY longer. Thanks so much, I'll definitely use your guides for the other Halo's as well!
Foret 4a he definitely dies. He straight up said he edited out 40 minutes of deaths in the last part of Keyes, trying to defeat all the SpecOps Covenant. He also did a livestream of Halo CEA like three years ago and you can watch just how often he actually gets killed.
I found a relatively easy way to kill the spec ops elites, atleast on heroic. Kill the wave of minors and majors elites, grunts, and flood that are the lasylt thing defending the door to the banshees. Then go up to the second floor where you can noob combo the spec ops until they are all dead, then go back down the ramps then go in the banshees.
FYI those flood in the hallway at 14:00 are not infinitely spawning. It just seems that way because there's like 8-10 waves or something. I thought the same thing as you until Mythic Tyrant pointed it out in his walkthrough. BTW, you're the first person i've seen who actually realizes you can shoot the hunters in the stomach for the 1-hit kill, so thumbs up for that lol
In the warthog run there are small doors that allow you to bypass sections of the run, except they are incredibly difficult to get into so yeah, best option is to drive straight, even though they can speed up going around corners. The warthog is incredibly difficult to get in them and just, it wastes time. You have to make a very sharp turn of 45* degrees and the drive along a platform only slightly bigger than the width of your warthog plus there’s ditches either ends, and it also involves going up and down a ramp to get in.
Thank u it helped so much today I got so frustrated but used dis and when finished this game I was shaking because I got this game after 6 years when I was as small and finishing this was so amazing

Black Viper And you think that the comic book is a cannon? How can you be sure that it has connection with the story if thr dev's didn't include an actual scene where johnson escaped?? Even with the MCC. The dev's still didn't make that cutscenes at all!
Thanks Hokie for these videos!! I'll be watching the rest as I make my way through on Legendary. You've helped me overcome my childhood fear of the Flood 👍
Really enjoyed watching your whole series Hokiebird428. Love the way you talk and narrate your way through... very well done. Only wish it was in 1080p, but otherwise an outstanding tutorial of legendary playthrough.
somehow, the ending of halo 1, made me feel empty and sad. it's such a good game and has a complicated storyline. watching this ending in a spectacular hd form double the sadness. i have just finish the original game in the PC, the same feeling...
And the distraction of the Halo ring is very symbolic. You just spent a jaw dropping experience in this artificial world, with an awe inspiring slybox giving you a full view of the Halo ring...every single spot you walked through, and almost every individual characters you ran into has just blown up to peaces...gone...like waking up in the middle of an immersive dream...
I had the same feeling. To think you and Cortana were the only survivors, although if you read First Strike there were some other survivors after the destruction of Halo (but most of them perish too by the end of the novel).
It's much faster to kill all the Sentinels and then let the Flood come for you. They aren't infinitely respawning for that part, and they should pose zero threat to you if you take up a defensive position in the doorway with the shotgun and grenades.
Grew up watchin my friends play halo.. never had a system myself... only line a week ago I was able to finally able to buy an Xbox and buy the master chief collection so i could play em all.. Yet even now I 22 years late the being able to play it and I lts just really sad to have missed it all in its prime... playing and game like this after its come and gone feels so empty now....
One of my favorite campaigns growing up. Within last year I finally beat it on legendary. Always played on normal before. Man legendary was tough haha but a lot of fun
Its not that i couldn't finish this game without help but your videos did help me a lot with simple tips and strategies. i saved a lot of time thanks to these. there are places where things happened differently for me and seemed harder which makes me believe you aren't on legendary but nonetheless you are good at what you do. keep it up.
14:50 ugh that stupid little hatch is so easy to miss... Was wandering around aimlessly until I searched for a walkthrough and ended up here 😅 and the worst thing is I think last time I played ce I got stuck in the same spot...
16:49 in the old graphics it was completely pitch black on the other side of the door. I remember accidentally walking in there thinking I got them all and ended getting attacked by more of them, i switched on my flashlight and could see their camouflage outlines. Scared the shit outta me as a kid.
TIP: At 9:05, if you skip the cutscene before the Sentinels break the viewscreen, the screen won't be shattered and it can be used as a barrier. (at least confirmed in the original PC port)
Never seen someone kill a hunter by shooting the belly before. I always waited for it to melee, sidestepped and shot it in the back. Thank for the video man. Got stuck on this one for a while.
I'd have to say that the ending sequence of the Maw was the easiest of the entire level, regardless of difficulty, and this's coming from a person that enjoys having the Boom Skull active. Just sticking to the side paths of the more open areas helps blow through it a lot faster, as well as keeping your Warthog from tipping.
What's impressive to me now is how important using different weapons actually was... my playthroughs were usually just "AHHH ASSAULT RIFLE" all the time.
That's reserved for Easy difficulty. You have to know the strengths and weaknesses of each weapon to have any hope of slogging through Legendary, let alone playing with any semblance of skill.
Oh for sure. I've played many games since and have adapted to the different weapons / tactics etc. Just didn't realise how important it actually was in Halo when I played it.
in halo combat evolved the pillar of autumn is symbolic. it is the center of the game, it is the first and the last thing you see and fight on while on halo.
Cortana: You did that on purpose didn't you?
Master Chief: (thinking to himself) That's what you get for transporting me inside a covenant ship upside down and six feet off the ground.
Master Cheif has a height greater than that of 7 feet I think
I never thought about it that way, thanks xD
Michael William LOL
AsquareM Productions he said six feet off the ground. Anyone at any height can be six feet off the ground.

Try not to flip at all. That saves time in the long run
the opening music... damn
I just finished the game on legendary. It was a real challenge. Thanks Hokie for your guides and tips!
*fighting* *they see it explode* "this is it man!" *alien and soldier hug it out before they die*
watching your videos.. is like the best past time.. kudos to my brother who introduced me to your channel.....
That awesome moment when you find out that the pistol is a OHK against hunters
26:28 It would of been nice to see Chief drop a frag here if played on Legendary.....
Haha, though it’d be blown apart a few seconds later
One of my favorite campaigns growing up.
Within last year I finally beat it on legendary. Always played on normal before. Man legendary was tough haha but a lot of fun
All ur guides help me past the hole game on Legendary mode time to start Halo 2 I'll watch urs for halo 2 as well
Its not that i couldn't finish this game without help but your videos did help me a lot with simple tips and strategies. i saved a lot of time thanks to these. there are places where things happened differently for me and seemed harder which makes me believe you aren't on legendary but nonetheless you are good at what you do. keep it up.
a bit late but he's getting all the legendary-only spawns so he's on legendary, that's an indisputable fact
Last hug scene is epic
14:50 ugh that stupid little hatch is so easy to miss... Was wandering around aimlessly until I searched for a walkthrough and ended up here 😅 and the worst thing is I think last time I played ce I got stuck in the same spot...
16:49 in the old graphics it was completely pitch black on the other side of the door. I remember accidentally walking in there thinking I got them all and ended getting attacked by more of them, i switched on my flashlight and could see their camouflage outlines. Scared the shit outta me as a kid.
I like how in the anniversary addition they put an beach there instead of that weird desert thing.
The game that made me a fan
Me too buddy
lengendry ending = awsomesauce
TIP: At 9:05, if you skip the cutscene before the Sentinels break the viewscreen, the screen won't be shattered and it can be used as a barrier.
(at least confirmed in the original PC port)
Thanks for your video! Big help!
JohnGalt117 You're welcome!
Never seen someone kill a hunter by shooting the belly before. I always waited for it to melee, sidestepped and shot it in the back. Thank for the video man. Got stuck on this one for a while.
Thank you hokie!! Halo CE: Anniversary Legendary now finished..
Halo 2 Anniversary Legendary here I come!!
Halo CE: Welcome to Halo!
Halo 2: *dead first second of gameplay*
AKA Welcome to Halo hell.
Not saying it's a bad game, but it's fuckin hard as hell!
Just finished Halo: CE on Legendary thanks to you man. I'm going for the Helioskrill armor. So it's on to Halo 2 now. Thanks for the videos man!
Im doing it on heroic after just finishing it on normal
I'd have to say that the ending sequence of the Maw was the easiest of the entire level, regardless of difficulty, and this's coming from a person that enjoys having the Boom Skull active. Just sticking to the side paths of the more open areas helps blow through it a lot faster, as well as keeping your Warthog from tipping.
Wrong
I find it to be the reason why I am not able to beat the game.
Just didn't realise how important it actually was in Halo when I played it.
on the gap bit in the final part, I died of fall damage
not too happy about that
I like foehammers motto you know are motto we deliver
What motto?
@@Carcosahead "We Deliver."
Random unimportant SPARTAN III Thanks for sharing
Random unimportant SPARTAN III ???
Random unimportant SPARTAN III “Thanks for sharing” ?
in halo combat evolved the pillar of autumn is symbolic. it is the center of the game, it is the first and the last thing you see and fight on while on halo.
+Loli Magnum indeed it is
When that nigga said we jus getting started he wasn't joking lol
Thank u so much for this walkthrough I spent at least 3 hours trying to beat this level :)
Whaaa you have only 20k subs, you definitely need more like 2 mil, best Halo walkthrough RUclipsr on RUclips 🔥 I subbed
Thanks ! I couldn't find the way to Ingeenering. Cortanna told me to go there trough the Cryo Bay and I was stuck there forever.
The hallway with the sentinels was confusing but this 17:08 helped
These videos are awesome. Very well done. Appreciate all the hard work. :)
I love johnson and the elite hugging at the end
