    Looked this up out of curiosity since I was just used to Crystal on the GBC. Did not know gold and silver still ran on the original gameboy!

      All of the GameBoy Color cartridges that have the small notch in the upper corner are compatible with the original GameBoy (and GameBoy Pocket/Light) ;)

      Makes GS even more impressive given the hardware limitations. The GBC had more advanced hardware and memory.

      The black gbc games with the original gb carritage design are playable for the 89 and pocket gb thr transparent gbc will say a message that is not playable on gb pocket and the super gb but putting it on the 89 gb will be useless since it got a chip lock on the power switch on top

      @@chrisray9653 Actually the GBC has the same hardware as the classic GB, except the video RAM, which is used for the colors only. If the game runs in black and white only, the GBC video RAM upgrade is not necesary.

      Gold and Silver were developed for the original Game Boy. The compatibility with Color was added later in development. That's why Shiny Pokémon shine in the first place, because you can't notice the main gimmick (colour variation) on a GB Classic screen!

      It doesn't really matter since you can still play the game on either the Super GameBoy or the GameBoy Color....to be honest it was a clever move by Nintendo/GameFreak since the original GB model had already sold millions of units

    • @MoonSarito
      @MoonSarito 3 года назад +5

      @@lightplan The Game Boy Color is not only the Original Game Boy with colors, it is actually a little more powerful, which is why not all Game Boy Color games are compatible with the Game Boy.
      Some GBC games that are compatible with GB even have less detailed tiles when played in GB like the Conker Pocket Tale

    • @Kmn483
      @Kmn483 3 года назад +8

      Nah. GBC's were relatively expensive back then. Anyone who bought a game boy but didn't want to get a GBC was able to play G&S because of this. And the more people that got to play these gems in general is a good thing.
      After inflation, GBC was $116. If you bought an original game boy for $197, you were down some serious $ just to play the new pokemon.
