  • In this episode, I will try to convince you that Shanghai is one of the MOST underrated places to travel, with LOTS of hidden gems that only savvy locals know.
    For some context, I lived and worked in Shanghai 10 years ago. I was shocked to see how modern, vibrant, an comfortable the city has become.
    We will not visit any typical tourist destinations, you are more than welcome to google those on your own. Instead, we go on adventures around the city that highlights modern lifestyle, and the evolving culture of today’s Chinese people.
    This is important, because there’s a lot of misconceptions about China, its cities, and many of its wonderful citizens. We will not discuss political ideology and differences in this episode, but simply sit back and celebrate the amazing city and its people.
    The clips were shown in the order in which it was filmed, but there are timestamps conveniently placed so you can skip to the parts you feel most relevant/interesting to you.

      I think you may be misjudging sentiment in US/UK. Not many people are jealous of China. Many are happy that China has dragged themselves out of abject poverty over the last 25 years, but are concerned for the well being of the Chinese people.

      Rather than concern about Chinese people, you should be concern about your own people, no? Look at your Philadelphia and many homeless in many of your community. Shouldn't this problem concerned you but the Chinese?? Hmm.. hmm.. hmm..

      @@IA100KPDT $200 in the US is not the same as $200 in China due to the different cost of living. If I took that same $200 to Vietnam, for instance, the hotel would be nicer than in China. Thank you for publishing this. I’m an ABC but I grew up with SH, having moved there in 93. It’s been 7 years since I have been back, but I lived there and visited fairly regularly for almost 25 years, and was privileged to watch the city grow up. I remember the Okura as well as the Jin Jiang across the street; we often went to 苏浙汇, as it was the best restaurant in town at the time. And 滴水洞was also a regularly visited spot. The Commune at 泰康路was one of the few good breakfast spots then; I can’t imagine it is still there. But there was a time when there were very few restaurants, Chinese not even foreign. 梅龙镇was one of those few. Then 台北小厨which would later become Bellagio. The ebb and flow of the city was what made it so utterly fascinating, and to see it progress year over year with every visit made an impression. SH was my second home, and it’s been too long. So thank you for this video which wasn’t just the Bund, and LJZ, or XLB and XTD. I hope to walk its streets and alleyways again soon; but not in July, I prefer Feb 😂

    Hello Sean. I loved your video! Thank you for sharing that Shanghai experience. I have a question, you mentioned closing your bank accounts in Shanghai after 10 years. I also have an account with Bank of China and haven't been back for 10 years; I know I still have some money in the account. Do you know what documents I need to bring to withdraw the remaining money from the account? Do I need to go to the same branch where I opened the bank account? Was closing the bank account quick? If I don't want to close the bank account, is it possible to keep it active? Thank you very much and success on your journey, Sean.

    • @onlysean1376

      Hello, yes they keep records very well. Your funds should be safe. They will ask for old and new ID/Passport to verify but it really was a walk in the park! I went to a random branch to do it. Because Chinas online and mobile Banking is so powerful, I experienced no queue in the branches I visited. (I had more than 1 bank account). Bank people seemed curious or pleasantly surprised that I was back after all these years but were friendly and helpful!

    • @studies8091
      @studies8091 4 месяца назад

      Thank you for the response. I was glad to hear that the procedure is simple. I hope I can keep the bank account active; maybe I'll leave some money in the account to avoid closure. I hope the interest is corrected on the account balance. Anyway, thanks for the help, and I'll book at this Okura hotel thanks to your video as well.@@onlysean1376

    No matter how flashy the city is, the malls, stores, public interest places will die over taken by e-commerce. This is happening all over the world, the most intense is probably China, it's just a fact. I feel bad for that plants invested pyramid sort of building, I think it will be DOA.

      Don’t you worry, the Chinese malls have become places for reunion, dating, kids’ play ground, amusement park etc., wherever there’re people, there’re sales. E commerce can’t take away 100% of the shopping plus the stores are all backed up with their online sales too, the stores on streets and in the malls are just show rooms like the advertising expenses that you have to invest.
