- In this video Dennis Pollock eats four different types of spaghetti on four consecutive nights, with pasta made from Spaghetti Squash, Zucchinis, Regular Noodles, and Whole Wheat Noodles. After each spaghetti meal he does three post tests and then reveals which is the big winner and which are the losers.

I was recently diagnosed with diabetes, the disease runs in my family. In researching diabetic recipes i found your channel. The content on your channel is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge, I really appreciate the time and information you share. I especially liked the spaghetti challenge. No more pasta for me, spaghetti squash for me!
You're on your way to victory!
Way to go, Mona! Dennis has lots of good info. Grains are poison for diabetics. Fruit too. Low carb will heal you.
I do keto for weight loss but I was border line diabetic also so your videos are very helpful please keep up the great work. I hope with all the experiments you are not hurting your own health God bless.
Now only if every "diabetes educator" would watch this.
Since diabetes I have taken a second look
@ my Dr and their ‘diabetes’ counselor.
Not very helpful and more interested in giving out the drugs than diet.
It is very personal every diabetic is different in blood sugar peaks
Changing ones diet reminds me of an old lady at a restaurant one day. She said "While young they couldn't afford what they wanted to eat. Now l can but am not allowed to. "
*I LOVE WHAT YOU'RE DOING, PLEASE DON'T EVER STOP!!* 😎💗👍🙏
im not diabetic, but i love this guys videos. hes so funny! and besides, his experiments are interesting. thanks for your vids!
Thank you for your tests. While I was diagnosed about 5; years ago, I’ve only had to test since June of 2023. I’ve been struggling with spikes. Your information has been very helpful. I have learned quite a bit.
You are hands-down the best and most clear and concise speaker. Your videos are enlightening and easy to follow with very good information. Thank you!
I agree! I'm surprised he doesn't have a million + viewers!
As a newly diagnosed diabetic this channel is a gem. I have a hard time finding recipes to cook. i will try these substitutions. 👍👍👍
You have been and continue to be a blessing to me. May God continue to Bless and Keep You and your family.
I don't eat pasta.. Squash and zucchini is good enough for me.. I'm Asian, since a kid, veggies are my best friend.. Keep the good work Dennis... God bless..
Love these "blood sugar food wars!" :)

I cannot express to you how thankful I am for your wonderful lifesaving videos. God bless you sir!!❤️
I like the way you present the information really clearly.
I appreciate that!
i tested my sugars with acorn squash was beginning 98 , one hour 133, then in two hours 98 , i love it!!!, i'm trying again with a 30 min. walk after eating
thank you for being so informational for us who have diabetics n I love your easy receipies n love the blood testing after you eat. Ive learn a lot n I love how you did this video, God Bless.
Thank you for taking the time to make this RUclips clip 😊
Well explained..thanks
8:25 - 9:27 😂😂
That was too true!
God bless you sir, I'm glad I found your channel. Good Christian man helping us out with our diet woahs!
I REALLY ENJOY YOUR VIDEOS ,KEEP UP THE AWESOME WORK YOU ARE VERY INSPIRING
Excellent, informative and all done with such style - love your Basil Fawlty humour! Thanks Dennis!
I had to Google Basil Fawlty!
Very nice video. Thank you for the hard work and experiments. This proves whole wheat and regular white flours are not much different when it comes to spiking blood sugar levels. Also, the difference between the vegetables is not much, so they are both safe for diabetics.
I’ve used spiralized daikon radish boiled lightly in veg stock as pasta substitute. Quite tasty and the texture held up well. 💖
Jchathe-- That level at the 2hr mark, is a little too high for me. I try to keep it below 140.Dr said I could go to 150, but don't feel too well, when it does. My meter will beep if I go past 150 and say, "over target" over of 140. Most of the time I'm around

Baked squash seeds are delicious!Coat raw seeds in olive oil, add salt, bake, and enjoy! I haven't come across a type of baked squash seed yet that wasn't good.
So helpful for anyone who cares about not spiking their blood sugar.
Thanks for taking one for the Gipper...Great vid!
Always appreciate the beating your pancreas takes for our benefit .
the "white" vs "whole wheat" spaghetti comparisons had me laughing
Thanks for doing this! One thing I noticed years ago with pasta is that the effects lasted longer than with other carbs. Even at 3 or 4 hours it either wasn’t coming down or even drifting up. So that’s a really bad thing about pasta.
You're right. Pasta typically takes longer to create a glucose peak, and then comes down much later than other foods.
Beat Diabetes! I’m watching your cereal video right now!! Love when you say you can’t give it up completely. I’m like that with potatoes. I eat a couple of grape size potatoes in a breakfast omelette once in awhile. I learn something new from you with each video and I’ve been working on this for 12 years. Thank you.
Really like watching your video's and learning so much to control my diabetes, specially foods war between good and bad. You doing very good job. Thank you for sharing.
Underrated pasta substitute: Shredded cabbage
Thanks going to try that
I love your show. The experiments are inspiring. I was diagnosed with type 2 a couple months ago and still working on what to eat and what not to and you, are helping tremendously. So thank you. You are helping people live longer.
Thank you for helping me make good choices.
You're welcome.
Hi I am not diabetic, but was one missing test in the sequence, may be you are not aware, you can purchase konyak noodles, they have like zero carbs.
Look in the internet you will find plenty of resources for this plant and how the spaghetti are made found mainly in Japan, China, Korea etc.
My daughter some time ago mentioned as well that are available sheets to make lasagna.
In my case I do not consume pasta with or without carbs, or grain or potatoes I love to keep my fasting blood sugar around the 83 to 85 range, sure not processed food at all, only meat, vegetables and may be once a month sweet potatoes and berries as fruit in our fermented milk
You will have the same noodles under different names like (konjac noodle, shirataki noodles, zero carb gluten free noodles etc), take a magnifier glass, sure you are already know that, they should have 1 gr of carbs.
There use in Asian cooking, here it is one example, but you will find many more
ruclips.net/video/8V3K78hXu24/видео.html
And some recipes
blog.bulletproof.com/shirataki-noodles-recipes-2b/
Sure you will find all this very attractive to your glucose meter

Excited to see new video! Thanks so much for your work
Thank you for all you show us .
Thanks Dennis just eat the sauce and a piece of grain bread toast with real butter work for me , your videos keep me motivated God bless kind Sir (Doug Ga )
You the man,I don’t like the fact that you sacrifice your body for us, but I love the information I Thank you so very much for providing us dietetics with real info god bless you sir👍👍👍😉
I haven't had spaghetti since being diagnosed with Type 2. I am going to buy a Squash and try this. Many of the Keto foods spike my sugar due to wheat contained in them
See and that’s why I watch you. You make me smile you’re kind nice man and you’re sharing a good word with people thank you very much. I hope all the words came out proper because I am driving to the gym right now on the freeway and this is all being dictated. Have a great day and continue the work I enjoy it thank you I’m still not gonna eat meat
God bless you....Keep up the good information and helpful videos...Regards
I put my leftover squash noodles in little one portion Ziploc bags in the freezer to bring out at a later date. Also put the whole squash in the microwave for a few minutes and it will soften it up to where it's easier to cut with a knife. I love the taste of squash noodles.
Thank you so much good to know because love spaghetti never had squash looks good you are awesome my friend God bless lol
This guy is cool. I could listen to him all day
Thank u for doing all ur videos i learned from it a lot,i am a full blown diabetic taking 2000 mg of metformin daily, since i watched u,i do not consume brown rice anymore and it did amazing in lowering my bg,just yesyerday all i ate was a big plate of veggie and good portion of meat my bg after an hour i tested bg was 140,compared to d other day i ate d same veggie and meat but with 1/2 cup brown rice bg was 237 and my fasting bg is always in d 200s,before i learned about watching carbs..so thank u,u r God sent to me.
"When you're in a fight for your life".........truth......been only watching the channel for a short time, and your desire to inform, educate, enlighten, and entertain are just terrific....thank you for what you are doing..
I eat spaghetti squash at least once per week. I prepare it by poking holes in it and microwaving it for 6 minutes per pound, rotating 1/4 turn after each 6-minute increment.
You are very good at making this whole thing fun to watch ...kinda like a game show & you're the host of the show! I enjoyed this! I watched this out of a curiosity for mom( she's diabetic).
God bless her!
@@beatdiabetes3 Thank you! You ,too!!! Loved your video!!!
Great speaking voice also.
@@fmills1583 Oh,yes!

A good alternative is konjac noodles and spag. Konjac is a root veggie that has zero carbs. Great for stir frys. And pasta dishes.
Thank you very much for the wonderful videos
I was driving and stopped my car as soon as I got the alert, just to watch your video. Thx Sir
Nice analysis as always, Sir!!
That's a hardcore like right there.😁
Wow! Now that's dedication!
@@beatdiabetes3 You said about feeding it to the birds, "I wouldn't do that to the birds" But you posted the video in February, The birds could use a high carb meal at that time of year ! They would probably use it up by the next day, and stay warmer that night !
Looks like you are going to get blood pressure due to this guy's channel before diabetes :)
This is good because not only will it lower blood sugar but it will help people like me who are so discouraged with eating the same foods over and over just to keep blood sugar down that it becomes a great temptation to give up and go back to the old way of eating, which would be extremely dangerous.
Thank you for your hard work but aren't you risking your life doing this? Love these videos and have learned so much.
I don't think I am risking my life. Despite my occasional higher carb meals, my A1C remains in the lower 5's. I usually try to make up for my high carb meals by going even lower carb than normal for a while.
I microwave spaghetti squash for about 5 minutes before cutting. Much easier to cut open and then bake.
Thanks for the tip you almost need an ax to cut those in half!
@@MisBunnypics so true.
@@MisBunnypics 😁😂
Tracy, can one freeze spaghetti squash and use it later? Thanks
@@fayebooth1920 yes you can. I have with good results.
I am a huge fan of substituting spaghetti squash for pasta when I want a spaghetti dinner. You don't have that heavy after dinner feeling, and it is delicious.
Thanks again for an uplifting video
A little onion added to the zoodles makes them delicious!
My husband found that egg noodles do not affect his blood sugar like spaghetti does. He has two ounces layered with meat sauce, cottage cheese and parm. We call it "almost lasagna".
When I was growing up I remember the No Yolks Egg Noodles which would probably be counterintuitive to fighting blood glucose. I thought the whole egg with yolk noodles would be better with no starch added perhaps?
Even though I am not a diabetic... I find these "real" experiments with "real" foods extremely valuable and interesting... Thanks Dennis Pollock for sharing your "real" life (blood letting) experiences... "a word to the wise is sufficient"... Your information leads me into making healthier dietary choices when I have that opportunity
Love these videos, I thought I was making healthy choices only to find out I’m not. Thank you!
Wow , very impressive results . I had pretty much given up all pasta products for several years now and spaghetti squash and zucchini noodles had never occurred to me . I will certainly give these a try now. Diabetic birds ...that's hilarious...I mean is it even possible?
Very well done video!
Italians eat pasta covered in sauces with a lot of olive oil or olive oil on its own.
The oil slows down the digestion of the carbs and prevents glucose spikes.
Looking at your test, the sauce used would have minimal fat to slow down the carb absorption.
Preparing pasta the way the Italians do, may have a different result to your results.
Would be interesting to see.
Also I read that cooling the pasta after cooking makes it harder to digest the starch- that would be interesting to test also.
@@MygirlsGJPB , Italians cook their pasta ''aldente''...which means to the tooth.
The past has a bite or resistance in the middle, again another reason that it may not necessarily ''spike'' your sugar levels on eating.
I also heard to boil pasta in a lot of water, and al dente of course.
For Italians, pasta is a side dish. The main course is vegetables and meats.
Not for diabetics. As Mr. Pollard said, it is a matter of life and death.
For the average person, grain pasta is ok.
A good alternative for pasta, but I would rather enjoy "spaghetti" squash for what it is and not an imitation of something else. I eat it with butter and seasoning. Regarding the hardness of the outer skin, I cook squash whole in the Instant Pot. Does not get the roasted aroma but better than potentially losing a finger, since my knives are not very sharp. Thank you for another experiment.
I just put the whole squash in the oven for 10 min, then I cut it and put it back in. Yes I'm scared to chop my finger off.
When I first saw my wife endangering her fingers with a spaghetti squash and a large vegetable knife: I cleaned my machete and went whack! Then I got a huge butcher knife and she did the whacking. Then I got her a mallet (various sizes) to use with the butcher knife so that she has more control. You use it with the butcher's knife: as if you were batoning wood.

Thank you for your experiments! I just found your channel and I’m believing I can beat our family plague of diabetes! God bless and keep you and your lovely wife! 🙏🏼❤️
You can do it!
This is your most entertaining video I’ve seen. I appreciate the information you provide. I’m confident that you are helping countless people. Thank you!
Thanks Mr. Pollock your a very through guy. I liked the presentation very much, it was appreciated.
My daughter and I were talking about Spaghetti Squash Noodles and now I know how to make them.
Oh,thank you, thank you.
Can't wait until she gets here today so I can show her your vid.
Nothing wrong with some white.
I can't wait to get some Spaghetti Squash.
Well, your blood spikes were not super high, I mean it didn't send your sugars over 200.
Great!
Thank you Dennis! You are an incredible teacher. I thank you for all the informative videos you bless us with. Dear viewers share the videos, like, comment and subscribe. I always look forward to the next upload. I talk to my family as if I know Dennis (personally) . Hahaha. I say Dennis says this...now the whole family knows Dennis. God bless Dennis and his wife.
Your poor family!
Oh thank you!!! 🙏🏾😂😆😔😌 I am pre diabetic and I found out during the quarantine time so I’m researching safe foods to eat. I’m literally feeling like I can’t eat anything... well foods that I can enjoy 😉 Your videos have helped me tremendously!!!
I found out also I was prediabetic. My doctor said if I lost weight my A1c would go down. I was not obese, just a little over. Sure enough I lost around 20 pounds And my A1c is now normal. At the lower weight I look a little skinny, but who cares. I’m healthier.
Try Dr. McDougal's free diet on his website. It reverses diabetes and I am not hungry. First week is hard but after it is easy.
Thanks again this was very informative and helpful.. u r so full of knowledge and it is appreciated.
Thank you SIR FOR all your hard work.
But, was the whole wheat noodles 100% whole wheat? I don't believe that your noodles tested was 100% whole wheat from the label I saw.. It should be conspicuously marked. I only eat 100% whole wheat bread and pasta. I don't have diabetes, but I try to eat healthy.
Thank you for making these videos, really, I mean it sincerely.
They want you to switch to "whole grain" vs "whole wheat " - still ratchets up your blood sugar whichever you eat.
Wish you were my dietician Dennis ....... excellent advice this.
Brilliant! I have searched in vain in all the supermarkets and market stalls for spaghetti squash here in the UK and never seen sight nor sound of them. However someone grows them and sent me four seeds! I have four spaghetti. squashes growing in my garden now, they still look like big leaves and a few flowers so a couple of months to go yet. I’m so pleased to find that it’s a big saving on carbs , I’ve done courgette spaghetti as it’s called over here but it’s not quite the same is it? Looking forwarded to harvesting and eating my spaghetti squash with a clear conscience! Great video, thanks!
I love the way you ... explain and put urself for experiments ....great job...by the way I m type1 ..I have learnt so much from ur videos .
A couple of questions, what about the high amounts of Sodium in the Pasta Sauce....610 mg? Also is it better to use the lean ground beef, or does it matter? What about using ground Turkey or ground Chicken?
Great video Dennis! I believe your pre meal sugar was lower for day 3 (white pasta) because of your zucchini pasta on day 2. If you increase your fiber intake generally speaking, you should see a drop in pre meal sugars.
Interesting insight!
Only been following Dennis for a few months, but man. Love this guy !!! Husband is prediabetic, it runs in his family so I really study each night on Dennis's videos! Thank you Dennis !!
I use canned bean sprouts from the asian isle or fresh if I can find them four spaghitt noodles. 1 can 45 cal. 3 carbs. Yum!
Thank you I going to cook this weekend
I make spaghetti with linguine palm hearts and sauce, onions, hamburger, mushrooms. Best ever, very low carb.
Great video. Very informative as always. I can tell your sister is a sweet person. I had an aunt that battled also and I often think if she only knew what she shouldn't eat she would've lived longer.
We cook our spaghetti squash in the pressure cooker 8 minutes. We have red sause on those. And have alfredo on zoodles.
I love your channel, you inspired me so much. I bought a meter and am testing, testing, testing, and I obviously have insulin resistance. Highest number I saw was 175 after eating fried rice using white rice of course. I'm now doing intermittent fasting and as I type this I'm 28 hours fasted. I really enjoy the different foods you test, I would be curious about certain vegetables too.
Your white bread 🥖 descriptions are hilarious
Dennis I’ve always enjoyed your show but you really hit it out of the park with this one. This video not only was packed with good information as usual but also was much more entertaining to watch. Thank you.
Appreciate it!
once again, I must again give you thumbs up for your amazing videos presentation. As in the past, I have recommended my friends to watch your channel, which are the best videos in RUclips. tks.
I appreciate your kind words!
I am loving the creativity in which you balance your meals with, especially in creating those different spaghetti noodle dishes, yum!
Thanks! The key to the spaghetti squash is baking it right, other wise, it can become mushy.. my experience in past! Thanks for baking time for it!!
You are a great teacher thank you for taking the time and illustrating all the testing. Very convincing.
Keep up the good work
Diabetic or not, if I am going to eat pizza I am going to eat the real thing. You can have pizza, pasta or whatever once in a while especially if you are fortunate to get your blood sugar levels to 120 or lower. I would rather eat actual healthy diabetic friendly food 95% of the time than eat fake pasta and pizzas. YUCK.
Good stuff! Thanks for posting.
I just figured out who you sound like. You sound almost exactly like Marlin Perkins from the old “Wild Kingdom” series. It’s incredible! Same inflection, tone of voice and delivery.
This is fantastic 😊🥰never knew this spaghetti recipe 🥰thanks 🙏
Very informative, thank you 🙏💖
They now have spagetti made from chickpeas, lentils, etc. might be worth a try.
