I think it's a great result for the Blast. Even if it's not a Boombox killer it can get very close to the bass and have more detail for significantly less money. If it's all about the bass the Boombox wins but it's a little harder to justify the price when the Blast is now an option. Thank you for another outstanding comparison, Alan! 😁👍👏
that dip in the blast makes the blast sounding v shape,has pinpoint mids unlike the bb2 has wider soundstage and broader mids,the volume of the cabinet makes the bb2 a more balance speaker while the blast somewhat like a klipsch reference speaker tuning which makes it v shape sounding and clear sounding,its now a matter of preference.
It's only been two comparisons so far but I'm really impressed with the stormbox blasts overall sound 👍 I can't wait to see how it holds up against 2 Motion Booms but until then keep up the good work you're videos are always top notch quality and keep bringing me back wanting to see more 😃

They have Class D Amp, C-Cam, Apt X, Passive Radiator, Aux In, Bluetooth, 60 Watts, all in a neat upright bookshelf speaker... What Hifi say "Bags of Sonic Ability 5*****". Great video as always. I got to say, I lose it every time I hear your sound clip of you saying jbl over and over at 20:37! These big speaker companies still think they can charge all this money for their name. Well obviously these other speaker companies can achieve good sound and deep bass at a fraction of the cost. Got my blast the other day and I have to say I’m very impressed! The good thing is, is that the blast isn’t too big, when comparing it to the boombox 2 or Sony xg-500, but it’s definitely heavy.

@@ehiztechgadgets9ja I compared it to the w-King T9 and I preferred the warmer sound of the Monster. T9 was brighter, a bit louder, with less lower end bass. Can’t go wrong with both though. Really depends on what you’re looking for in a speaker.

I am very eagerly awaiting the boombox 3. I have been waiting years for them to include a subwoofer like the Aiwa Exos 9 did from the beginning. If they tune it properly, I would imagine the speaker would be able to retain both powerful mids and bass at high volumes thanks to separate drivers balancing the frequencies. With that said, I do worry that JBL may be a little light on the amount of power supplied to the speakers (compared to something like the Exos 9 which I believe is close to 200 watts). Currently I use the UE hyperboom as my go speaker for big sound, but this boombox 3 could sway me as the hyperboom doesn't have a sub to extend into those lower frequencies. I guess we will have to wait and see!
I ordered mine out of frustration! I live on a small island in the Philippines and I exercise about 5 days a week outside in a cabana, a concrete slab 10' x 10' with a roof. Kareoke capital of the world I turn my marshal emberton on which is only 20 watts and the neighbors turn their music on and I can't hear mine. I'm a foreigner and I live here so I have to keep my cool and cannot throw their speaker in the ocean. I only play during exercise about 1.5 hours. The storm box with higher wattage of 90 watts the neighbors hopfully will let me do my exercise before turning their stuff on.
When are you getting a Diamondboxx M or L or XL? They will destroy anything on the market. The Diamondboxx M and JBL Boombox I tested and it’s not even close. The Diamondboxx wins easy.
I read in an article: JBL Sold the Boombox woofer to tribit, but it also mentioned that tribit put some sort of coating to reflect the lights I think that is the reason why they sound very similar
Yeah although at $500, you could get like three of the competitors speakers. Hell you could get five or six motion booms! (Although I don't think it has party casting functionality).
What really sold me on blast Alan is when ya compared it to boom plus and ya said you'd grab the blast over it to listen to music and that was without you having time to play in the app and mess with eq . That was just stock. So I ordered one and cannot wait to get it!!! Have a great day Alan and be cool to know what ya think after having time to get it tuned how ya like!!!!
yup im liking it more all the time, eq doesnt get you more bass but it does allow you to tame some of the upper bass which i wanted to do, a decent listen even indoors now.

GREAT REVIEW! so what to do now..... New Tribit for 224 EUR (233 USD) or used JBL Boombox 2 for 277 EUR (281 USD)? Mostly for outdoor parties, I'd like the nice bass but loudness is also desired? In the future I could probably go for a second, used Tribit to pair them... Or perhaps 2x Soundcore Motion boom plus would make more sense, 1 is currently for 177 EUR ( 184 USD). I own 2x Motion Booms which I love in terms of loudness, clarity but there is just not enough bass for my needs ;(

Got the bb2 on sale for $300… yes the blast is a better value but I like the sound of the bb2 more… plus I already have a couple of jbl speakers so this will be a nice add on to my collections
I'm glad you answered that this is no killer to the JBL Boombox 2. But I do highly perfer the soundstage on the 2 as well. The Stormbox blast sounds to narrow and screechy in my personal opinion great review
using eq to tame the highs a little and reduce the upper bass via eq and now im liking the blast more than the bb2, actually the bb2 actually sounds off compared to the blast. lets see if its like that over a long listen.
what do You think about Marshall Wooburn 3, as a ultimate portable speaker and competitor to TribitBlast/Boombox 2-3 ?? I know, it is home speaker, but dimmensions, weight and price are similiar to Boombox series, its even cheaper than BB3 ..... I suspect it may play significantly better, than typical portable speaker. Technical data says, it goes 15Hz deeper..... First reviews are very promissing.
Love your reviews. Please test the W-KING D10, it's a lot cheaper, I got one for my son and am very impressed. Much, really much cheaper than competition and two of them (still often for less than one of the others) will blow anything away, while one already will be very close IMO. Very loud, good bass, no fancy EQ options, not too heavy, but with a large battery and nice lights.

Bashing me too, i think he may be losing the plot. However the speaker sounds nice enough but may be too bright for some and too bass light for others. His main problem is he has over hyped it.

Good afternoon all, greetings from Brazil. The reason why I think BB2 is better goes for a more natural sound. Not addressing the bass now, but the mids and mid-high frequencies, BB2 has a more contoured voice. The vocals are like in the studio-type voice. Tribit sounded more like live music - which is very good too. My two cents, BB2 has colored less the sound. Also, that's why I got the BB2 over the BB3, a few days ago. BB3 has indeed a deeper bass, but also more resonant, and unnatural. BB2 has a great balance: it respects the frequencies.

A balanced sound means, in my view, a mutual respect between the frequencies - given our previous knowledge of the music style you are using for comparison. BB3 has a great sound, JBL has put in it a more deep bass, but the mid-highs became thin, with less prominence. Brahms Viola Concertos - and I am getting here the Violas, not the violins - became lifeless, thinner, with a higher pitch than it is supposed to sound. And, if you compare Bach Cello Suites, performed by Yo-Yo Ma, for instance, BB3 deep bass resonates artificially. A Cello does NOT resonate as such. But the same CD on BB2 you do have the Cello more natural. But, if you want Electronic music - humpy punchy noises, of course, BB3 is better. But for serious music, my dear, I have got the BB2 - more neutral, more natural. I hope it is explained.
@@mghleira if your happy that's great however you are comparing two unbalanced speakers and declaring one more balanced. Neither are anyway near flat. If you are looking for neutral you have the wrong speaker, they are both party tuned.

Nevertheless, they are speakers, so I compared whatever they are outputting. Again, Tribit sounds to me putting the music in a live environment. BB2 is not doing that. Sir, those are my feelings. I never tested a Tribit personally.
@@mghleira did you use my neutral eq for the tribit? of course there are party parameters, normally smiley or v shaped, bass boosted, sculpted deeper like boombox 3 or upper bass heavy with deep bass removed. most neutral for me is the go play 3.
Still no Boombox killer, tribit did a good job tho. Now im sitting here and waiting for the BoomBox 3 to get my hands on it. And to compare it to the BoomBox 2. But i think the Equalizer on the BoomBox 3 is a good thing, because the BoomBox 2 is sometimes a little to overkill with the bass when you wanna lisent to music indoors... Anyway i havent heard the tribit yet but as soon i can get hands on it, i will take a look at the driver compared to the BoomBox 2 because they look similar to each other as i can see. Maybe the same driver i dont know. We will wait as times comes...

I wonder if swapping the polarity of the tweeters will improve this dip at ~ 5kHz. Sometimes such a solution is used, it all depends on the acoustic phase shift between the midwoofer and the tweeter. Hmm... anyone willing to try? xD
Tengo los 2 en interiores el JBL boombox 2 es muy chillante y exteriores pierde demasiado su bajo por ser tan profundo. Encambio la tribit stormbox blast por donde lo pongas sonará bien esos bajos también profundos pero se escuchan. Y en calidad son casi lo mismo y los 6 kHz ni se notan a aire libre que es donde más se usa. Entre ventajas y desventajas de los 2. Son prácticamente iguales en persona, no es lo mismo escucharlo en persona. Por el precio JBL boombox 2 ya no vale la pena. Compren la tribit o bien esperen la JBL bombox 3. Otra cosa la tribit stormbox blast si cae en mi mochila y la JBL bombox 2 no entra y es más pesado. Lamentablemente ya venderé mi boombox 2 ya no creo que valga la pena tenerlo más.

If you prioritize a more meaty, tight, punchy bass and EQ customization, choose the Blast. If you want more rumbly, quality deep bass, choose the Boombox 2

Outdoors in large spaces when there is a group of people all these low frequencies are cut in half. I still prefer to have 2 motion booms, they sound louder, more stereo Soundstage.... and they are much easier to place in strategic points such as a shelf, a corner etc.

Expecially if in a open space you leave the speaker on the ground. Can you test behringer c210b? I've listened to it in a small gig with 40+ people. It sound fantastic, loud and clean everywhere because the top speaker is 1.7 meter tall
Yup, I'm trying to capture simply what the speaker is doing. You can then extrapolate to your own usage knowing upper bass and boosted highs work outdoors and more neutral works indoors in a typical room with bass being a matter of taste. Its all i am trying to do. This is my hobby and sadly i cant be all things to all people. 🤷

well the bb3 is good for cleaning your ears out, only had a quick listen but pushing the volume was a little bit like torture in the highs lets see what some decent break in can do. JBL have never been shy about prices 🙈
its really simpler than that. i am one person with limited time and cant review every speaker. the ones that get requested most along with the ones i personally find interesting are the ones i try to cover but simply too many speakers and too little time. i am not a reviewer, i am a bloke who enjoys youtubing in my spare time.

i have played with them more since i recorded this and it can be quite track dependent. having listened more im kinda leaning towards the blast as my preference as it sounds more balanced.
well relatively less mids because of the bass boost and the peaks they seem to have eq'd in to work around that 5.5 khz dip. dont expect too much from the eq, you cant push it past where xbass gets you. going into custom turns off the xbass. so its really just there to allow minor tinkering with sound signature. im gonna do a video on it but i was very disappointed with its limits. must be a lot of dynamic stuff going on because what i measured while tweaking doesnt follow through into real world bass heavy tracks.
@@alanrossreviews Well the EQ could still make the Xbass off mode more balanced. Boost the bass more to bring it closer to Xbass mode, Reduce that slight 2.5khz boost, also reduce slightly the 7 to 9khz area and maybe improve on the 5.5khz dip if possible. But what do you mean by "what you measured doesn't follow through" ? 🤔
if i tweak using test tones and pink noise i get a 45hz boost past what xbass gives you. but when i measure the real world tracks bass is identical for deep bass.
TRIBit in front and back is a metallic grill coated with paint....meaning if it is always submerged to d pool or ocean as it is ipx7 then it will eventually get rusted just like any metal unlike boombox 2 which is fully polycarbon hard plastic meaning it will last even a decade as it is already tested ang proven in years....
Alan, I keep coming back to this video every time I am tempted to buy a Stormbox Blast (not that I can right now with them out of stock) to talk me out of it. But what I really want is something halfway decent that will float speakers up. That is such a hard metric to do research on but you are one of the few people that even mentions that. Do you know off the top of your head of any speakers in the Motion Boom level of performance but that float speakers up???

i cant answer that because i haven't been able to get hold of the true expensive high end portables due to costs 😭 when ive requested a sample for review i get blanked.

@@ehiztechgadgets9ja I compared it to the w-King T9 and I preferred the warmer sound of the Monster. T9 was brighter, a bit louder, with less lower end bass. Can’t go wrong with both though. Really depends on what you’re looking for in a speaker.

I am very eagerly awaiting the boombox 3. I have been waiting years for them to include a subwoofer like the Aiwa Exos 9 did from the beginning. If they tune it properly, I would imagine the speaker would be able to retain both powerful mids and bass at high volumes thanks to separate drivers balancing the frequencies. With that said, I do worry that JBL may be a little light on the amount of power supplied to the speakers (compared to something like the Exos 9 which I believe is close to 200 watts). Currently I use the UE hyperboom as my go speaker for big sound, but this boombox 3 could sway me as the hyperboom doesn't have a sub to extend into those lower frequencies. I guess we will have to wait and see!

I ordered mine out of frustration! I live on a small island in the Philippines and I exercise about 5 days a week outside in a cabana, a concrete slab 10' x 10' with a roof. Kareoke capital of the world I turn my marshal emberton on which is only 20 watts and the neighbors turn their music on and I can't hear mine. I'm a foreigner and I live here so I have to keep my cool and cannot throw their speaker in the ocean. I only play during exercise about 1.5 hours. The storm box with higher wattage of 90 watts the neighbors hopfully will let me do my exercise before turning their stuff on.

When are you getting a Diamondboxx M or L or XL? They will destroy anything on the market. The Diamondboxx M and JBL Boombox I tested and it’s not even close. The Diamondboxx wins easy.
I read in an article: JBL Sold the Boombox woofer to tribit, but it also mentioned that tribit put some sort of coating to reflect the lights

Boombox 2 good bass but lacked midrange. However, after the 0.5.3.0 update, the eq was adjusted to solve this problem.

What really sold me on blast Alan is when ya compared it to boom plus and ya said you'd grab the blast over it to listen to music and that was without you having time to play in the app and mess with eq . yup im liking it more all the time, eq doesnt get you more bass but it does allow you to tame some of the upper bass which i wanted to do, a decent listen even indoors now.

New Tribit for 224 EUR (233 USD) or used JBL Boombox 2 for 277 EUR (281 USD)? Mostly for outdoor parties, I'd like the nice bass but loudness is also desired? In the future I could probably go for a second, used Tribit to pair them... Or perhaps 2x Soundcore Motion boom plus would make more sense, 1 is currently for 177 EUR ( 184 USD).
I own 2x Motion Booms which I love in terms of loudness, clarity but there is just not enough bass for my needs ;(

Try it with custom EQ to get the bass lows the xbass mode only boosts the mid bass range and lowers the deep bass
I did a video on this, my experience was different. Pushing bass in custom eq cant go more than xbass unless you reduce mids and highs relatively

I'm glad you answered that this is no killer to the JBL Boombox 2. But I do highly perfer the soundstage on the 2 as well. The Stormbox blast sounds to narrow and screechy in my personal opinion great review
using eq to tame the highs a little and reduce the upper bass via eq and now im liking the blast more than the bb2, actually the bb2 actually sounds off compared to the blast. lets see if its like that over a long listen.

I know, it is home speaker, but dimmensions, weight and price are similiar to Boombox series, its even cheaper than BB3 .....
I suspect it may play significantly better, than typical portable speaker. Technical data says, it goes 15Hz deeper..... First reviews are very promissing.

Every jbl speaker lost all dynamic at max volume. There is no punch there. Only some bass "carpet". Tribit also lacks a kick but its better than bb2
like most of them max volume is just about pushing the mids and highs, harman are better for this

Love your reviews. Please test the W-KING D10, it's a lot cheaper, I got one for my son and am very impressed. Much, really much cheaper than competition and two of them (still often for less than one of the others) will blow anything away, while one already will be very close IMO.
Very loud, good bass, no fancy EQ options, not too heavy, but with a large battery and nice lights.
i have one, im not quite as glowing as you though, if i ever get a chance i will of course do a video on it

The reason why I think BB2 is better goes for a more natural sound. Not addressing the bass now, but the mids and mid-high frequencies, BB2 has a more contoured voice. The vocals are like in the studio-type voice. Tribit sounded more like live music - which is very good too.
My two cents, BB2 has colored less the sound.
Also, that's why I got the BB2 over the BB3, a few days ago. BB3 has indeed a deeper bass, but also more resonant, and unnatural. BB2 has a great balance: it respects the frequencies.
to describe the bb2 as balanced is puzzling, measured how?
@@alanrossreviews where the frequencies do not go over themselves. A balanced sound means, in my view, a mutual respect between the frequencies - given our previous knowledge of the music style you are using for comparison.
BB3 has a great sound, JBL has put in it a more deep bass, but the mid-highs became thin, with less prominence. Brahms Viola Concertos - and I am getting here the Violas, not the violins - became lifeless, thinner, with a higher pitch than it is supposed to sound. And, if you compare Bach Cello Suites, performed by Yo-Yo Ma, for instance, BB3 deep bass resonates artificially. A Cello does NOT resonate as such. But the same CD on BB2 you do have the Cello more natural.
But, if you want Electronic music - humpy punchy noises, of course, BB3 is better. But for serious music, my dear, I have got the BB2 - more neutral, more natural.
I hope it is explained.
@@mghleira if your happy that's great however you are comparing two unbalanced speakers and declaring one more balanced. Neither are anyway near flat. If you are looking for neutral you have the wrong speaker, they are both party tuned.

Still no Boombox killer, tribit did a good job tho. Now im sitting here and waiting for the BoomBox 3 to get my hands on it. And to compare it to the BoomBox 2. But i think the Equalizer on the BoomBox 3 is a good thing, because the BoomBox 2 is sometimes a little to overkill with the bass when you wanna lisent to music indoors... Anyway i havent heard the tribit yet but as soon i can get hands on it, i will take a look at the driver compared to the BoomBox 2 because they look similar to each other as i can see. Maybe the same driver i dont know. We will wait as times comes...
Boombox 3 is using 3-way system. Oval layed Racetrack Subwoofer, Oval Layed 2 Midrange Woofers front of that the Dual Oval Layed Tweeters also

stormbox stay at topday for 230 euros. arround almost 110 euros more what i payed for the soundcore motion boomn. nochange forme because the stormbox blast ist way hevier as the motion boom plus.

I wonder if swapping the polarity of the tweeters will improve this dip at ~ 5kHz. Sometimes such a solution is used, it all depends on the acoustic phase shift between the midwoofer and the tweeter. Hmm... anyone willing to try? xD

Tengo los 2 en interiores el JBL boombox 2 es muy chillante y exteriores pierde demasiado su bajo por ser tan profundo. Encambio la tribit stormbox blast por donde lo pongas sonará bien esos bajos también profundos pero se escuchan. Y en calidad son casi lo mismo y los 6 kHz ni se notan a aire libre que es donde más se usa. Entre ventajas y desventajas de los 2. Son prácticamente iguales en persona, no es lo mismo escucharlo en persona. Por el precio JBL boombox 2 ya no vale la pena. Compren la tribit o bien esperen la JBL bombox 3. Otra cosa la tribit stormbox blast si cae en mi mochila y la JBL bombox 2 no entra y es más pesado. Lamentablemente ya venderé mi boombox 2 ya no creo que valga la pena tenerlo más.

You need a subwoofer if you are looking to play that deep, none of these speakers can do thay
20 hz is infrasound, you never hear it but you can feal it, my nuLine AW-1100 can do it (35 kg).

Outdoors in large spaces when there is a group of people all these low frequencies are cut in half. I still prefer to have 2 motion booms, they sound louder, more stereo Soundstage.... and they are much easier to place in strategic points such as a shelf, a corner etc.

Can you test behringer c210b? I've listened to it in a small gig with 40+ people. It sound fantastic, loud and clean everywhere because the top speaker is 1.7 meter tall
Yup, I'm trying to capture simply what the speaker is doing. You can then extrapolate to your own usage knowing upper bass and boosted highs work outdoors and more neutral works indoors in a typical room with bass being a matter of taste. Its all i am trying to do. This is my hobby and sadly i cant be all things to all people. 🤷

The blast is definitely the better buy if money is the issue. Both speakers sound good though.

its really simpler than that. i am one person with limited time and cant review every speaker. the ones that get requested most along with the ones i personally find interesting are the ones i try to cover but simply too many speakers and too little time. i am not a reviewer, i am a bloke who enjoys youtubing in my spare time.

I think Boombox 2 will still have deeper bass. both have problems in the highs though
i have played with them more since i recorded this and it can be quite track dependent. having listened more im kinda leaning towards the blast as my preference as it sounds more balanced.
Interesting, and also the Blast have less mids, so it helps with the bass.

well relatively less mids because of the bass boost and the peaks they seem to have eq'd in to work around that 5.5 khz dip. dont expect too much from the eq, you cant push it past where xbass gets you. going into custom turns off the xbass. so its really just there to allow minor tinkering with sound signature. im gonna do a video on it but i was very disappointed with its limits. must be a lot of dynamic stuff going on because what i measured while tweaking doesnt follow through into real world bass heavy tracks.
@@alanrossreviews Well the EQ could still make the Xbass off mode more balanced. Boost the bass more to bring it closer to Xbass mode, Reduce that slight 2.5khz boost, also reduce slightly the 7 to 9khz area and maybe improve on the 5.5khz dip if possible.

if i tweak using test tones and pink noise i get a 45hz boost past what xbass gives you. but when i measure the real world tracks bass is identical for deep bass.
TRIBit in front and back is a metallic grill coated with paint....meaning if it is always submerged to d pool or ocean as it is ipx7 then it will eventually get rusted just like any metal unlike boombox 2 which is fully polycarbon hard plastic meaning it will last even a decade as it is already tested ang proven in years....
Im not sure any speaker is likely to be always submerged? 🤔

Alan, I keep coming back to this video every time I am tempted to buy a Stormbox Blast (not that I can right now with them out of stock) to talk me out of it. But what I really want is something halfway decent that will float speakers up. That is such a hard metric to do research on but you are one of the few people that even mentions that.
Do you know off the top of your head of any speakers in the Motion Boom level of performance but that float speakers up???
