- The Francis Scott Key Bridge has collapsed into the Patapsco River after a cargo ship collided with it. We heard preliminary calls early this morning around 1:30 a.m. As of 10:30 am EST officials say there have been two people rescued and six others are missing.
Chief Kevin Cartwright, director of communications for the Baltimore City Fire Department confirmed that the bridge had been struck by "a large vessel" causing it to collapse into the Patapsco River.
The R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center treated one patient, who has since been discharged.

Question. Why did they not tell the construction crew to evacuate? If they knew in time to stop most traffic, why didn’t they warn the construction crew?? Sounds disgusting to me!

They did, video shows the anchor down but you can't stop something that size. Not enough time.
Had they dropped both anchors it may have helped. In dropping the port anchor only it may have caused it to strike the collumn.
they may have actually stopped in time had both anchors been deployed.
Who is our transportation secretary? Who is the secretary for international commerce? If these people were competent at their cabinet positions the cargo shipping specifications would never have been allowed. Shifting accountability to the FBI is not the answer. The top down structure if governance is never held accountable. Stop the drama.
Where you can see the end of the bridge is probaley one of the best places for an over view of the ship from up high . NO ONE IS USING THIS AREA WHY ? 😮
This is just incredible. When it was stated that they were able to stop traffic in time, it seemed like that info was not certain. I could see headlights of vehicles going across seconds before it fell. Maybe they were able to stop additional vehicles, and the ones that sonar is spotting are just the vehicles from the construction team. I also believe that the crew was larger, so it seems that maybe some were able to flee in time….it is amazing that one person rescued was not injured. At 185 feet above the surface of the water, then add the debris falling as well, that is just amazing. Lots of questions regarding details. Those little details and a more exact timeline of events will help recovery efforts. The ship was going quite fast when they lost power and it seemed to flicker back on then off again. I am curious as to how long officials knew about the ship having mechanical issues and the possibility of it colliding with the bridge. I see they dropped anchor. I know there was not much that could slow that size of ship down in that short amount of time. What are the details of the communication with the construction crew that was working on the bridge. Who stopped traffic? If it happened in mere minutes, from the location of where the construction vehicles seemed to be on the bridge and assuming the workers were near those, there would not be enough time for them to clear the sections of the bridge that ended up falling. The pictures are not doing this bridge justice. It is massive.
Maryland Baltimore you are doing a wonderful and magnificent job we could not ask for a hard-working government First Responders all of you doing a wonderful and great job it is amazing how fast you guys were able to get on top of this situation usually it may take a few hours to get on top of this you guys were within two to three hours were on top of the thing they break didn't even come in you were on it I think you guys are doing a great job I respect that all of you Take a Bow for your hard work keep it up gentlemen you do us proud proud to be in Maryland my home state

I dont think it is a terrorist attack. I do believe there should have been precautions measures and / or procedures in places to avoid such tragedy. Especially since there is a possibility of a cargo hitting the bridge. Also, i do not understand how the bridge could fold so quickly and easily. It seems to me that the bridge would have collapsed soon anyway . I have so many questions. I am so sorry for all the innocent people who lost their lives so tragically and unexpectedly. This is tragic, but all bridges should have some type of Productical in place just like all shippers

That bridge was hit at a major support beam. Even the Titanic sank inspite of all the claims. I just hope they recover everyone, but I know there are fatalities. I am not shocked that the bridge collapsed. I am concered for all the dead or injured.
Hopefully those that haven't been recovered yet didn't suffer, that it was instant.
