They're not that tough but they do pack a punch. Especially the wolves. They wipe you out in seconds if you're not careful.

I mean there’s plenty of boss fights littered throughout the game (for examples, lockjaw, silver, stonefist, thorn) but I suppose they wanted the fights to be more even which is why it’s not like a crazy tough boss with a lot of health. Yes, it makes it more realistic basically.

You're actually right. Lugaru was the first game published by Wolfire Games. After its success, they went on and made a bigger story : Overgrowth

Yeah, this is Lugaru’s sequel. In fact they remade Lugaru with this game’s engine too and is playable as soon as you run the game and check out the play options.

Not really. There's a learning curve to understand the fighting mechanics but each level is pretty short. So, when you die, you don't feel that you lost a lot of progress
