    What’s your reading goal for 2025? 📚

I started my 2024 goal with 12 books and ended up reading over double that amount lol I was going to try for 25 this time, but since I'm working on changing careers by the end of the year I won't have as much time to read, so I'm sticking with 12 for now. We will see if I go over that or not 😄

This year I want to repeat my "Year of Women" challenge and read only female writers. I will probably take male authors too, but no more than 1 per month, and the Bible will traditionally go without competition. I want to read 10 non-fiction books and 10 books about my religion (I am an Orthodox Christian). I also signed up for two book games - one of which gives assignments with topics for reading, and the second chooses from a list of already purchased or postponed books, to motivate you to read what you have, and not buy or choose new ones.
Almost forgot! My goal is not as ambitious as yours, I plan to read about 85 books. After a bad covid, my brain does not work as well as I would like, plus I work a lot.

I always add a DNF graveyard, because it's painful to me to DNF a book, but at 52, I just don't have enough life yet to be stubborn. So I'm giving every book at least 50 pages, and that's it. Some may be soft-DNFs, but still. If I make it a cool zombie graveyard, all decorated with Gothy goodness, maybe I'll be more willing to use it. :p

I’m still working on some of my reading journal setups. I decided to leave my “overdue reads that I own” at 24 since that balances very nicely 😊 I’m changing up my “read bigger” spread (helps me get through big books) to a “reading projects” page to cover that plus maybe some smaller paired reading ideas, etc

Possible spread suggestions: re-reads vs new reads, or medium (audiobook vs ebook vs physical book). I re-read A LOT, so the first may not make sense to most people, but I just did my tally for 2024 and it was 113 re-reads vs 142 new books. I find the trends interesting, especially since I'm a mood reader like you so seeing what months I'm picking up a comfort read over something new is interesting. I keep track of them per month and then add it up at the end of the year!

    • @PlantBasedBride
      @PlantBasedBride  Месяц назад +4

These are fun ideas! My rereads are usually under 10 a year, so not a large percentage of my reading, but it would definitely be interesting to look at which months lend themselves to nostalgia and which are all about novelty!

That journal is so gorgeous. I love your reading journal videos. They’re so inspiring. This year was my first year using a reading journal and I focused on reading mostly Gothic lit (I’m hoping to write a Gothic novel someday soon). One of my favorite spreads in the whole journal is the one where I listed the elements of Gothic lit as a reference guide for when I’m studying the genre. It looks really cool and it’s functional. If you ever decide to have a theme for the year or read more books in a certain genre I suggest that type of spread for a quick guide to studying the genre while analyzing and annotating as you read books in said genre. Good luck with your reading goals for 2025! I’m very excited to see what your favorite book of 2024 is 😊

❄🌟I see you haven't read a book from Finland and I'm from Finland so I have a recommendation for you!!
One of my all time favourite books is 'Moominland Midwinter' and even though I like other Moomin books too, this one is just something different. The Finnish title 'Taikatalvi' (Magic winter) fits the book better in my opinion, though the original title is 'Trollvinter' (Troll winter) because Tove Jansson's mother tongue was Swedish. I don't really even remember if the book has magic in it but I just love the 'Taikatalvi' title as a word. Tove Jansson was such an interesting and inspiring artist, so I really recommend finding out about her life and works.
The book follows Moomintroll who usually sleeps in the wintertime, but suddenly wakes up and discovers this whole new world. The author dedicated the book to her own mother and I personally see a lot of that in the story, but it is also about loneliness and the scariness of unfamiliarity and finding hope and comfort when everything feels weird. And the character Too-ticky is based on the woman who was her (Tove Jansson's) life partner, Tuulikki Pietilä, which is interesting to know when reading this book. And the book has Tove Jansson's own beautiful illustrations.

Another beautiful setup! I'll admit I was sad to hear that you'll no longer be doing BuJo content (and I totally understand why!). I started to go back through your old BuJo videos and rewatched quite a few of them! I then sought out to find other BuJo content creators and I just didn't find the right vibe. Your videos - no matter the type - are always so cozy, beautiful, and warm. Your personality and art are why I keep coming back to your videos. :) I wish you the happiest of New Years and I'll always be looking forward to a new video from you! I also got some clear sticky notes and tabs so I can try annotating my books! I don't read much, but my life is finally settled enough that I have time to sit and read! My reading goal is to read six books this year! Haha that may not seem like a lot, but that'll be six more books than last year! The first one my list is the Lord of Flies. Anyway, I love your content PPB! ☺️📚🐈‍⬛️🍂

Then i try to to decide 12-15 favorites out of those. It became 18 of 107 books 2024. At the end of the year its also easier to decide, because the ones that stood out I obviously remember the best. This year ive decided ti make my bookdiary more artful, make some drawings for every book, if I feel like it. Write something about every book. The names of people and what kind of feeling the book gave me. I hope I can stick to it!

Happy New Year from tiny-town Austria! 🥳
What a lovely video, thank you! And the „kitten air jail move“ at 5:00 minutes was just sooo relatable! 😂
Though I never got around to do a physical reading journal last year (only wrote some notes, plot summaries, reviews etc. for each book read in a word document spreading over jan-dec) because LIFE was li“f“ing something fierce… I‘ve set apart a day next week to start a new physical reading journal for 2025. Am still hopeful this‘ll happen. 🤞🏻
In my digital book journal I have a section called „what I learned“: this can be words new to me (not a native English speaker); professional jargon; scientific/science related concepts; artworks I‘ve come across; historical events I‘m hazy on etc. etc.
I set up a table with 2 or 3 columns: the word/concept; explanation or more info I find interesting about it; page found in book. I’d like to keep this spread for my physical book journal, maybe as a section towards back. Not sure yet.
It is something I really like though. That, and for fiction I do a „best first/last sentence“ page. Also fun to look through, I find.
Give the cats a cuddle for me, please! ❤ Happy reading, Monica

So keeping everything in a single notebook and not on sticky notes all over the house is my biggest goal this year.

This is really inspiring! I think I want to start intentionally doing journaling like this this year but for my art like I used to do in highschool for art class. I really miss it! Plus I think actually decorating my sketchbooks and general notebooks/idea books might help me actually pin point my ideas a bit better lol. It does feel like I’m constantly rambling in my head with so many ideas that I just never end up actually experimenting with them or really expand on them like I’m highschool.

That journal is stunning!!! I am going to set up a tracker for the # of books: i think i am going to be conservative on the number of them this year. Some of them are going to be knitting and crochet books, so i may also logg how many projects i completed from them. Or skill i learned and used. (I also have a knitting/crochet journal to track projects and notes). Going to use the sticker cover idea. Also track mood vs tbr. Type of book: physical, audio, eReader. Thanks to you and Willow Reads the TBR is chonky not quite "oh lord he coming!" But close. And series. May i recommend for cozy syfy Nathan Lowell Golden Age of the solar clipper: Quarter Share (1st book) 3rd in series has triggers for SA and physical violence and abuse. They come in audio formats of podcasts anywhere you get your podcasts. They are really good.

If you're looking for french books to add to your TBR, i very strongly suggest "Du thé pour les fantômes", from Chris Vuklisevic. It's the story of two twin sisters who haven't talked to each other since 30, 35 years. The first one, Félicité, sees the spirits of people who passed away mid-sentence and is a "passeuse d'âme". The second one, Agonie, is hated by everyone and lives as a witch in the wild. The day their mom dies, they have to find out what happened and need to reconnect to do so. It's beautiful, very poetic. Mon coup de coeur absolu de 2024 ❤

There are lots of books with clearly neurodiverse characters, but nowhere are they called neurodiverse…which I find a bit icky. There are lots of books with poor or really stereotypical representation.
