12:20 Traffic is the price you pay by choosing to drive. Not my fault you're driving a 4 seater when it's just you in it, get on a bike and filter up with me!
I have always liked this opinion I once heard regarding driving that said "isn't it funny how everyone driving slower than you is an asshole and everyone driving faster than you is a maniac?" I think this translates in many different aspects of not only driving/riding but almost everything. If I see someone speeding (not even crazy fast) or aggressively moving through traffic, I tend to think WTF are they doing? But then that might be me and any other given day. I think this "bad behavior" is normal for enthusiasts whether it is cars, trucks or bikes, but in North America since bikes are not a common form of commuter transportation it means most motorcyclists are also enthusiasts which means there is a higher percentage of them "doing bad things" by why we are all judged.
It depends. People will think what they want to think. If you drive a big truck, people can and do perceive you differently depending on where you are. In Texas and Oklahoma it’s pretty much expected. In big and dense coastal cities, you can be get perceived as a redneck country bumpkin. With bikes, I think it depends more on how you carry yourself. In today’s culture, the squid without gear riding 2-3 times the speed limit and getting angry at the car pulling out in front at no risk to them is remembered more than the guy riding invisible.
It's like every day I hear someone make a rude comment about how some dude driving a truck must have a small pee pee. There is definitely a perception out there that people who ride motorcycles are in some way “not normal”. What is funny is the response from some people when they see that “normal” people do ride, and in the case of a group I ride with, we’re all health care professionals. When we meet “normal” folks on a ride and they find out the group riding are doctors, nurses and health care executives, the look on their face is priceless. They truly have a hard time processing it….
From my perspective as a non rider, people that ride motorcycles gain an automatic cool factor. It’s just cool. I think it’s dope. The only time I’m actually annoyed is when the obnoxious Harley bro hauls ass through the neighborhood at 3am.
it's funny because I keep seeing videos by yammie and chase talking about trying to minimize your time near cars, meanwhile when I see someone on a bike I try to "get away" from them either by going faster or giving a ton of space because I don't want to be near them if they make a mistake or something happens. really helpful to learn this stuff though. maybe in 5 years I'll get around to getting my first motorcycle.
The last two times I got pulled over by law enforcement, the very first thing they said to me was "thanks for stopping". Since when has it become optional, not to pull over, when prompted to do so by the proper authorities. (of course, asking for a friend)
It not that it became "optional", it's that most squids on supersport bikes ran and either go away or got un-alived. I once got busted doing 80 in a 55 on my R1. Sheriff deputy saw me and flashed his lights. I pulled over, took off my helmet and waited a solid 2 minutes for him to come. The look of relief on his face was priceless. He thanked me for stopping and I said "You got me fair and square." His biggest concern wasn't me violating the speed limit, it was my safety due to risk of crashing being higher and that's why he thanked me.
With my Duke 890 R (no cat and w/o DB-killer) everybody automatically thinks I'm an asshole. The upside is that almost all cars move out of the way preemptively when they hear me coming lol
I am from the US, but I live in Thailand. I can probably count on both hands and feet the number of "non-scooter" bikes I have seen. when I am out driving, either on my scooter or car, my goal is to look for the scooters with multiple people on it, the most I have seen was a 3 generation bike.... granny was driving, mom on the passenger seat. the two oldest kids were standing on the floorboard in front of granny and mom had the baby between herself and granny....yes folks, that was 5 on a scooter....
I had a chick come up and ask me for my number right before I got on my bike. I think it offers a sense of bad boy-esk energy. Younger women tend to like them more so than older women. But I think the rider is more important than the bike at the end of the day
@13:10 - LMAO; reminds me of my neighbor who hated my car due to my exhaust to the point she keyed it, but the road and area our condo is in is car/bike culture central and have supercars drive by the place multiple times a day 🙄
I was a bit bugged by some specific dirt bike riders a few years ago. A couple of kids of a family that owned the gas station down the road from me, the family owned a whole strip of land, the kids decided they wanted to do dirt bikes, so the family rented a Bobcat and made a track for the kids. I mean that's friggin' awesome right? Except the kids were on the track ALL THE TIME, like 12 hours a day, every day, all summer, like 500 feet from my house. It was even more irritating than the HD crowd riding along the scenic road that our house is up against (sometimes almost 100 bikes in a pack taking minutes to go by)
This isn't only an American thing. I live in New Zealand and it's the same here. Non riders here say the same/similar things that you guys are talking about. I was thinking that maybe you guys should ride in other countries and do videos of it. I've ridden in few countries and each has its own quirks but generally all the same. Bike people are bike people no matter what country they live in. It's awesome.
I have fallen in love with Naked bikes, I used to like fully faired bikes, and people would ask what I rode and they would always say OH like they were disappointed, then proceed to tell me about someone having a harley, i’m 52 i’ve never owned a harley and I probably never will, just not my thing, but I don’t knock anyone for what they ride, it seems older people think harley’s are the sophisticated riders, but gimme sport or naked all day everyday.
Imagine a sport bike rider that hung out with an MC. That cursed rider would bring so much hatred that even knowing such a person might get your bike confiscated.
My grandmother tells me about her stepson who ran out in front of a car and got hit every single day. Still hasn't stopped me from riding motorcycles though 7:06
Its also seen differently in America because we dont have the restrictions the rest of the world has. If youre American you can get whatever you want. I think thats awesome.
I drive a dual sport, i was once cornered by 3 golf carts (I live next to a public lake) and they were claiming i, along with my "friends" was doing donuts in their yards. They show me the video and pictures, which was clearly teens on 125cc pit bikes. I'm 32 years old; standing at 6'3 and 230 pounds, upon reviewing the video that it clearly was not me or my bike i was let off. But the reputation of those kids have clearly put the locals into blind rage into blaming anyone and every one into accusing all Bikers of the crime.
When you compare how easy is to drive a car and how hard is to drive bike, you see that bikes are more prone to accidents but again when compared there is less with bike ..
it's the same thing in the car community. Everyone that just likes to hang out and talk about cars get a bad rap because of all the takeovers now. social media has definitely ruined most communities now.
as someone who has ridden a handful of times on borrowed bikes, I see someone on a bike and think "uggghhhh, I NEED one, i just dont have 10k to through at a bike and gear right now"
love this type of video, should do a sportsbike comparison in every engine class, 300-400cc 600cc and 1000cc. should do all the notable brands kawi, yamaha, suzuki, honda, bmw, aprillia, ducati, etc.
So I live in a small town and for a time there was a motorcyclist who would start his big noisy bike at 5:30 am and leave it running for a n hour. Another guy who rode a bike routinely would rip up and down the main street popping wheelies or just going for a rip. Often at dusk just as it was turning dark. I love bikes and ride myself but guys like that I don’t
Agree with much of what’s been said here. I ride responsibly most of the time, ATGATT, a Kawasaki Z900RS and an MV Agusta Brutale 800 RR. Complete nerd who loved tinkering with mechanical things since I was 3 years old. Also own a bunch of fun German cars. And no tattoos. Happy in my enthusiast worlds.
Every time I ride or go to my dealer to get maintenance done there’s always a rider saying ride safe. I like that. It’s like this instant connection that we have. I’ve met some harley guys that get enthusiastic about the younger generation becoming riders. Their main concern is how some people go over 100 and might not make it because of the possibility of one simple mistake could end it all. I know my honda navi is technically a scooter but I get a lot of compliments on it and it helped me with the basics such as counter steering and throttle control.
Im part of an MC in the UK and most of those guys flip the fuck out if a driver does something wrong, some even flip out while driving themselves saying what if I was on a bike xD the way I see it is if you are riding in a way that makes it difficult to judge or see its your job to be ready for something every single time
I was like that when I started riding, I quickly learnt that flipping out was pointless, just stay chill and continue riding. It's the times when you get angry and aggressive that you do stupid shit that puts you in danger.
when i see a big group of harley’s i honestly just think they’re dorks. when i see someone on an r9 driving 80-90 (flow of traffic on the turnpike) with a t shirt and a backpack i think they have a deathwish. when i see a dude on a honda or a guzzi i think they’re probably a father.
My take is, at the 12:00 minute mark. If they're stuck in traffic, you should too! I got some lady honking incessantly and using her car to block me (with a baby in the back). I stopped and went around her two lanes over and continued with my lane splitting. Might of gave her the finger while rolling by, Don't remember, Don't care!
"Why are you riding these oil leaking smelly machines around?" Said the man riding a 4 legged animal that pisses where it stands and takes 12 pound dumps whenever it wants.
The random group of teenagers on hawk 250 amazon motorcycles that are pulling woolies while swerving through rush hour traffic with no plates, no gear, and even drive into oncoming traffic while laughing and flicking drivers off. Those are the people who are remembered. Ride safe guys!
I don't fit in to most of these categories. If any of them. I ride a foot-forward cruiser (not a Harley), I'm not a member of any MCC, I don't wear a cut, I wear an open face helmet and textile armour, I ride purely for pleasure (I'm professionally retired so have loads of time on my hands), and apart from funeral/wedding/prom escorts, I ride solo. Usually.
I live in Belgium, in general there isn't a strong reputation for bikers, but, my uncle is a gxsr squid and that changed the reputation of al motorcycles for my parents. They also have a strong opinion about goldwing and harley riders. But that comes from the hell's angels who are also active in belgium.
When doing anything in this world, there's a fact. If you do something good,, people might tell one or two of their friends. If you do something bad, people will tell everyone they know. I ride a loud ass cruiser right now, so in my neighborhood I barely touch the throttle until I'm a few blocks away.
When I started to get into your videos, and you mentioned the rule of saying hi to other riders that pass by, I though that was so weird, because where I live, if we were to say hi to every rider that we see, we'd be saying hi every 20 seconds
Yea, we have a bad reputation, due to bad apples. But, alot of us do alot of good things. There are alot of charity based groups and rides. Patriot Guard Riders, BACA, Rolling Thunder/Rolling To Remember, and many others
the only 2 times a motorcyclist bothers me is when they're going 100+ mph around traffic (fun to watch in videos though 😅) or waking me up at 2AM with their absurd exhaust (tbf, loud exhaust is just annoying, period)
My only unpleasant experience with a rider was this old chopper dude riding in a group that was stopped at the same gas station/souvenir shop as me and my family. This guy dropped his pants and showed everyone his BARE ASS to publicly urinate in the parking lot when the entrance to the shop, which had a restroom readily available, was ONLY 30 FEET away. Wtf…
I was on board until I heard hate directed towards Hunter S. Thompson. He was arguably the best writer in the 20th century. Hell's Angels is a great book that does a good job of explaining why people ride motorcycles. In the end this video did do a great job how motorcyclists are seen all around the world and in the U.S.
Here in Spain we have the European AM -> A1 -> A2 -> A licenses progression. So real quick for those who don't know it. For a reference, you can drive cars when you're 18 (with the B license). You can get the AM license with 15 and drive 2 strokes 49cc. So you can see young little future squids outside highscools on that. With 16 years old you can get the A1 license, and it gets you up to 125cc. Here you can encounter from (again) future squids on a GSXR 125 from a lot (and I mean a LOT) of adults going to work and trying to save some money on parking and gas. With 18 years old you can now go to the A2. No cc limitation, but power instead. Maximum power output of 35 Kw (which is around 49 HP). Now right here is where you start to find some enthusiast. Yeah some people are still commuting saving some bucks on a limited 650cc but I would say maybe half of them end up falling in love with motorcycles. Now for the last one the A license is just "whatever bike". But in order to get it you need to posses at least the A2 license for 2 years. So this system is supposed to "reward" progression and dynamic learning. It kinda works and also it doesn't but that's another whole different story. My point is: 1000cc here? Full A license. That means you're an absolut motorcycle freak enthusiast (normies see them as "nothing bad against those people") or just a street Rossi. However there's PLENTY of enthusiasts who just do their weekend rides and enjoy, but the minority of street squids poppin nooners and revvin that inline 4 straight piped Gixxer are a real "inconvinience" for the rest of us. However it is true that it kinda is like tattoos. But slower. People are getting used to see the rider as an interrogation like "it can be whoever I don't know". But I do believe it's gonna get some years still to get to that point. But we are doin pretty good I would say. Drive safe guys.
Speed limit in Ireland is 120kmph. Any biker not wearing gear (boots, trousers, jacket, gloves , helmet) are very much looked down on and considered an idiot. Lane splitting is allowed here but much be done cautiously. You’ll absolutely be pulled over by police if you’re flying it, however. There are restrictions here on power output of the bike depending on your age. You’ve also to complete a minimal training period. Once you’re over 24 the limits are lifted. 24 is usually the age people ‘wake up’ a little and take less chances.

Tbf when I’ve had people split beside me the sound of something that close really startled me. I can see why it pisses people off
With my Duke 890 R (no cat and w/o DB-killer) everybody automatically thinks I'm an asshole.
I've seen similar in the Philippines on scooters.
Peak Asian.
I had a chick come up and ask me for my number right before I got on my bike. I think it offers a sense of bad boy-esk energy. Younger women tend to like them more so than older women. But I think the rider is more important than the bike at the end of the day
yammie is so well versed, its honestly impressive how he is able to articulate effectively with an extensive vocabulary. scholar yam!
"I ride pretty safe" after his near death experience
hahah bagging up "he's bein' sick, so freakin sick" haha. great video
Ride like no one sees you ever is the best advice!
ty for this amazing video papa yam!
@13:10 - LMAO; reminds me of my neighbor who hated my car due to my exhaust to the point she keyed it, but the road and area our condo is in is car/bike culture central and have supercars drive by the place multiple times a day 🙄
I really appreciate and enjoyed this discussion
Still hasn't stopped me from riding motorcycles though 7:06
pls actually do yams literary hour because i cannot wait to argue with you about it
Haven't read any of Hunter S. Thompson's work, but Johnny Depp was hilarious playing him in Fear and Loathing.
Hunter wrote the book. You should read it better than the movie
@@pucknhusker9426 I'm sure it is. Just haven't had time and I've got too many books already in the queue

Every time I see a pack of Harley riders, I don't think of lawyers and doctors. I always think of the old movie wild hogs.
as someone who has ridden a handful of times on borrowed bikes, I see someone on a bike and think "uggghhhh, I NEED one, i just dont have 10k to through at a bike and gear right now"
love this type of video, should do a sportsbike comparison in every engine class, 300-400cc 600cc and 1000cc. should do all the notable brands kawi, yamaha, suzuki, honda, bmw, aprillia, ducati, etc.
I love bikes and ride myself but guys like that I don’t
her comment about adv reminds me of the new roadhouse remake. a dude on a ktm890 adv is being rowdy in a salmon polo, like what????
Agree with much of what’s been said here. I ride responsibly most of the time, ATGATT, a Kawasaki Z900RS and an MV Agusta Brutale 800 RR. Complete nerd who loved tinkering with mechanical things since I was 3 years old. Also own a bunch of fun German cars. And no tattoos. Happy in my enthusiast worlds.
Whenever I mention I ride bikes in Australia it’s kind of frowned on by “normal” people. Which is frustrating because this shit is fun.
Don't you love the "Temporary Australian" thing!! 🙄
Im part of an MC in the UK and most of those guys flip the fuck out if a driver does something wrong, some even flip out while driving themselves saying what if I was on a bike xD
the way I see it is if you are riding in a way that makes it difficult to judge or see its your job to be ready for something every single time
I was like that when I started riding, I quickly learnt that flipping out was pointless, just stay chill and continue riding.
I love episodes that Whitney is in They're my favorite She's hilarious 😂
My take is, at the 12:00 minute mark. If they're stuck in traffic, you should too! I got some lady honking incessantly and using her car to block me (with a baby in the back). I stopped and went around her two lanes over and continued with my lane splitting. Might of gave her the finger while rolling by, Don't remember, Don't care!
"Why are you riding these oil leaking smelly machines around?"
Said the man riding a 4 legged animal that pisses where it stands and takes 12 pound dumps whenever it wants.
24:28 Didn’t needa be called out like this 🤣
The random group of teenagers on hawk 250 amazon motorcycles that are pulling woolies while swerving through rush hour traffic with no plates, no gear, and even drive into oncoming traffic while laughing and flicking drivers off. Those are the people who are remembered. Ride safe guys!
Hell yeah yammie I’m with you on that! “MORE NERDS ON BIEKS” -Yammie Noob
Also, 4 wheeled vehicles are envious about motorcyclists' ability to filter in slower traffic to get in the fr9nt or just avoid a stoppage.
I dont care ab the reputation i just wanna ride motorcycles
In Malaysia we use mostly underbone bike just because we hate the traffic to much
When doing anything in this world, there's a fact. If you do something good,, people might tell one or two of their friends. If you do something bad, people will tell everyone they know.
I ride a loud ass cruiser right now, so in my neighborhood I barely touch the throttle until I'm a few blocks away.
Ride like you're a vampire... Vampire's are not seen in a mirror.
when i ride, idgaf about what anyone thinks. they're not me and I'm not them.
Lmao it goes from 9 mins to 27 mins or sum. Shit like that on the what discord thinks section lmfao haha epic
Having ''The Perfect Vehicle'' right next to me on the shelf and suddenly seeing it here in the video too 🤔
My only unpleasant experience with a rider was this old chopper dude riding in a group that was stopped at the same gas station/souvenir shop as me and my family. This guy dropped his pants and showed everyone his BARE ASS to publicly urinate in the parking lot when the entrance to the shop, which had a restroom readily available, was ONLY 30 FEET away. Wtf…
The Yam + Whitney dynamic is excellent entertainment. Y’all are doing great keep up the good work.
I used to absolutely despise motorcyclists for my entire life and now at 34, I am one. It’s crazy how the view can change so quickly
Yam, you’re in Austin! Thought you were in Canada.
1. Yammie Noob literary hour! Yes!
2. More nerds on bikes merch, please!
3. How do I connect with more women bikers, so I can ride with them?
end of the day who care what normies think.. You do you and keep doing you
Speed limit in Ireland is 120kmph.
Does that akrapovic tee have a logo on the back too?
Yam's literary hour needs to happen though for real.
The Yammie Noob book club!
Good content, thanks. Interesting chat.
That carpet is such an optical illusion
Interesting chat for sure 24.15 totally sums up motorcyclists - they have formed a tribe of mis-fits. luv it.
