I am a fan of Alice's voice and deep feeling for what she sings. But I also tend to admire concert singers who keep their hands as relaxed as possible and certainly below waist level.
I thought this song is the third movement of Mahler's Symphony no. 2. I recently heard a live performance of Des Knaben Wunderhorn in Aalborg, Denmark, and this song was NOT in that performance.
Sometimes it's better that the body be still & that the voice express all that the music & words have to say. Making faces often comes across as untrue. I think, except for some slight transgressions of the types mentioned, Alice Coote's vocal interpretation is altogether convincing.
Bravo ! Belle artiste !
I love how she doesn't sound like anyone else. She sounds like Alice Coote. Brava!
Lovely. Very expressive
she is extraordinary---the way she uses her voice has a mesmerizing effect.
Very moving
It is indeed from the January 30, 2010 live recording.

I would prefer singers don't look like irish dancers with the the hands down all the time
@@frogmouth You would prefer singers didn't look...
Brava!
Also included in Mahler's Symphony No. 2 "Auferstehen"
I wonder whether this setting is different from that in Symphony No 2.

I know that there is different arrangements for this piece. Sometimes played with urlicht and sometimes without.

Close your eyes and just listen to the music. That's how auditions are conducted.
Too physically fidgety for my taste. Distracts and detracts from the nobility of the music and message. The voice is very fine, though.
