My third great Grandfather left Germany in 1867 to America. I still have family in Germany, and I am proud to have had my some of my family fight for the Kaiser. These stories are well known in my family and how my great great grandfather was forbidden to learn German from his parents because of these persecution. My family has always despised Wilson.
Rest in peace my extended family who fought for the Fatherland in the great war.
Wilhelm Friedrich born December 11, 1880. Kill in action on the 26th of Aug. 1917
Friedrich born September 5, 1884. Kill in action on July 28 1918 in France.
Johann Gottfried born August 6, 1886. Went missing in action on the 30 of August 1914.
All three brothers never return home
Well my maternal great great grandpa was born in Bavaria and came here in 1892 on Ellis island when he was 19 and his fiancé was 17. He moved to Holdrege, Nebraska and worked as a cobbler there. One day in 1918 he had gained enough savings over 25 years to buy a ford Model T. He went to Omaha on the train to buy one, and in line made small talk with another german guy. The salesman, I think he was Irish didn’t like that, and said he wasn’t selling to any krauts, and told my great great grandpa to get lost. My grandpa couldn’t do anything, and not only did he take a long train ride there and wait in line all day for that, but he had a son fighting for the USA in France then and had lived here for 25 years by now. Eventually, his sons got him one the next year, but what they did was a great injustice

As most people do, you have Hitler on the brain. We are communicating about before Hitler. Hitler was a product of what was done to the Germans during and after WW l. He was just a few years older than my grandfather that fought for Germany in WW l. I knew that generation very well and they were angry about the terms of the Treaty of Versailles and what was done to them during and after the war.. That is why Keynes wrote The Economic Consequences of the Peace (1919). After the First World War, Keynes attended the Paris Peace Conference of 1919 as a delegate of the British Treasury. The Germans had no representation and were looted and abused. You have to be aware of what the British, French, Spanish, Portuguese and other rulers did to the United States and others. I apologize for being harsh but even my mother's birth certificate says Prussian on it. She was born in 1921 and the stamp on her birth certificate says "Prussian". By 1927, she was in Manhattan at age 6 because things were so bad in Germany. My grandfather first left by himself with nothing in 1923. My grandmother worked and tried to balance taking care of my mother with other women. They went through hell to get out of the hell created by the victor countries in 1919. @@sgabig

You can be a German-American without liking the Kaiser. Me, on the other hand, as a Texan with German ancestry, love the Kaiser and Prussian/German culture. I only wish they didn’t sink American ships and drag us into WW1.

They passed a law in Ohio in 1919 that said German language was to be outlawed in elementary school, even among children who spoke it as a first language. So as not to let the children's formulative thought process develop in German. Even though that's what their parents spoke.

I'm half Sicilian but my mother was brought here at age 6 in 1927 from Hamburg. She even experienced the anti-German sentiment as did my Opa und Oma. Yet I have to put up with so many other nationalities and their ethnic origin pride crap. Germans played a major role in building this country. For the most part people only think of Hitler and Nazism when they think of Germans and Germany.

The vast majority of German Americans came over from 1860 to 1890, decades before ww1 and ww2. They made up a massive chunk of the union army and helped hold the country together, then a few years later they were called enemy aliens and had their rights restricted just because their names and culture appeared similar to a group they split from decades ago. The crimes in this video were inflicted on true Americans just because they had ancestry that scared idiots.

The point is that during the war the US encouraged mass xenophobia towards those who were ethnically and culturally German under the excuse of "national security". In the reality they were bringing about the unreasonable destruction of German culture in a country that's supposed to welcome immigrants coming from all parts of the world from many walks of life and different cultures in religion to a world of opportunity. This is crap is the reason that the Midwestern states have been a sort of symbol of the average american, these states had the most amounts of German Americans and in order to avoid being a targeted by anti German sentiment these people made themselves look so american that they were the symbol of the average american citizen. An entire subculture destroyed all due to war hysteria.

I don't see how your analogy compares with this at all. Greece hates Germany because ww2 destroyed their infrastructure and consequently their economy as well and the results are still seen to this very day as they still have not recovered. Your country has an actual reason to feel disgruntled and estranged toward Germany, or at least their government. I actually just realized that trying to articulate why that analogy isn't valid is going to take me a while and I don't have that kind of time on me hands at the moment, lets just end the discussion here.
