Building a Work Shop: Framing Overhangs and Preparing for Roof
HTML-код

- On today's episode I take you through framing overhangs on a post frame and why we install our tails separately. Also, I show our double X bracing that we use for shear until the steel diaphragm is completed. I wrap up the episode with prepping for roof, and the process we take to straighten and square the roof structure prior to installing our steel!
I quickly run thru what it's like when you show up to site after a snow fall. It's not fun, but it's part of building in the winter in the midwest!

It’s actually a very well written and comprehensive book ruclips.net/user/postUgkxhgbP-6hUnXu_QRaoHgLztgsI0YF3HqR0 . I wanted to pair this with an updated book on local codes to start planning a post-retirement dream shop. I think I have just about everything I need between the two. The extra plans available for purchase towards the end are priced almost as much as full home plans, not little sheds however.
Mike Rowe would be proud of you guys showing how cool it is to work with your hands!
It sure is
That bit with the exposed screw as a leverage point for the hammer to level the sistering piece was so sweet.
Leverage is key on post frames
sure was... :)
RR Buildings yeah but making it look so easy and smooth is a bonus. 👌🏼
Nice job, very professional, sharing your talent is much appreciated, sorry for the lousy weather.
It’s a real testament to how good you guys are. 1/8” off and making adjustments. Most contractors would be 1/2” off and say it was good enough
In the real world, I'm loving everything about your show in fine detail.! I think you guys are doing some amazing work, and believe you to have an awesome crew. Thank you all very much, for your understanding and incites into the beauty of accuracy by design. Outstanding, and I thank you for sharing your precious time with me. Thank you again from someone who knows.! Donny
I'm glad to see you show that every can't be a great day to get thing done. We'll get it done tomorrow. That life.
Kyle, you are one freeking stud working in that cold.
Kyle... I'll keep it short &sweet. You are the Master of Perfection!
Like the screw and hammer trick!!
I hold down a desk during the weekdays, When I get tired of filling out TPS reports I watch your videos. I don't have much to complain about with my desk job. I wouldn't mind being outside building stuff though. If I could start over the day after high school I would go get a job in the trades. Construction and building stuff is an honorable profession. Keep up the good work.
The movement you achieve with the chain is amazing!!
This was better than the super biwl
Spell check.
I've been "researching" pole barn construction and have to say, you have it down pat. The perma column brackets and your method of raising the walls is quite slick. Much better than the way we use to do it. I'm preparing to build a huge pole barn for horses and an indoor riding area when I found your videos on how you put the up I knew putting poles in the ground was not the way to do it. I have 70 12' sono tubes I got for free and plan to do a perma column like you are doing.
We are building our 56x40 barn, and using you for a reference. We are 66 and 71, so not quite as quick, but doing fine. Ours. Is 17 high to fit the RV. 4 trusses set and if the wind dies some we will be squaring and overhangs shortly. Sure do appreciate your help!!!
Really starting to come together ! Great job! I liked seeing the detail on the straightening/squaring process. This helped me to really visualize it. Stay warm!
You should post more content of problems that you have so I know your actually human and do mistakes I’ve watched you do a lot of building and I’m always envious of how well your team works together and how well and efficiently you build you are what everyone should aspire to be
Love watching you guys work and give me ice, snow even heat over mud anytime.
Nice to see people with the higher level of standards making your end product a cut and then some above all! Nice work
Your stuff is top notch...great attention to detail
Thanks
absolutely love watching you guys do things right ! Its so nice to see there actually still is someone who gives a $%^& and takes pride in their work. Anyone fortunate enough to have you build their building has won the lottery, because those are about the same odds as finding another builder in your same league. You are living proof that "GOOD LUCK" is when opportunity meets preparation. Thank-you very much for these videos.
Winter always a bad time to work with! I feel the pain!
Your precision is really impressive, it's great to watch you guys build.
Appreciate your eye for detail. That works everytime for clean job.
Great videos. There is a lot to learn from you guys. I’ve been out of the trade for a long time but I’ve been doing a lot of home improvements and these video help bring back the skills. Thanks and keep the videos coming.
Kyle very good information on how to get a building square! This project is coming along really good! My last job I worked outside all winter after 28 years baking in an aluminum smelter. So I do understand how the temperature extremes can make life harder and more difficult to get the work done! Anyhow thanks for the great video content!
Hi Kyle. I appreciate that you show the same stuff again. I think I’ve finally figured out how it all works when you’re straightening the building 😅
I think ur describing every detail I think ur an awesome builder
You definitely know your stuff with pole barn style building, going to put up 30X30 shop in North Idaho next year so I am sponging as much knowledge as I can. Appreciate all your expertise
Thanks
Ray
Awesome ray thanks for watching
@25:38 great shot showing the end fascia straightening.
Loving the videos!! My favorite is the fascia and metal trim fascia , I have learned a lot from your videos, thank you and god bless!!
Awesome TVs makes man
I couldn’t hammer a nail straight if my life depended on it but I love watching these builds.
Another great video. Your insight and tips has helped me tremendously with the building of my own pole barn. I can really talk to my builder with a more in depth knowledge of how things should be built. Keep up the great work and videos!
Love all your videos Kyle. Cheers!
Enjoy the video for sure. And learn something every video. Keep up the great work.
Kyle love the screw trick when I never thought of that that's a good one I like that thanks for that one prescient it keep up the good work stay warm young man do

Time to expand in the South!!!
That lumber looks like really nice quality.
looking brilliant m8 .
fantastic boss .
Nice work.
Enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing.
A lot of very helpful info as always, Thank you!
Some handy tips tricks and information.
Great to see that others have days that aren't completely worthwhile.
You do a great job my friend
Beautiful work. Gotta love overhangs, On a building this tall, I would have opted for 4 footers ! Thumbs up !!
nice work guys!
My respect, I hate snow and the cold. I am a fair weather builder, I guess when you do it as a hobby vs a full time job you have options...lol
The shop is looking great!
Keep up the fantastic builds!
Good vid as usual, I like the sentiment at the end.
Thank! Good job guys! Hello from Russia (Siberia)
Ti vagytok a legjobbak!
Very much appreciate the detailed explanations.
Tip: Change your socks at lunch time....Change into another pair of boots/shoes too....you’ll find it so much nicer to work with dry warm feet in the winter time. It really boosts your morale and makes you feel warmer when your feet are dry. A one piece “Gumby Suit” is nice too...like a snow suit but for work....keeps the back warm.
A speed square makes a great scraper
I’m hooked on the idea of building a post frame shop after finding your channel. But I think I’ll wait til it warms up a bit!
these videos are great keep up the good work sir!!!!
Went and bought the new grk screw bits. A complete and total awesome investment. They are great
They are the best man
Hey thanks for the splice joint trick with the screw to adjust the planes
Yeah buddy didn’t know how many people would pick it up
That last shot of the gable fascia swaying was awesome, really depicted what was going on very well!
Not the fascia swaying just the camera on the scissor lift moving, the building is very sturdy...
Dude, you guy's are awesome!! 👍🏼🤘🏼💪🏽🍻
Leaf blowers are the kiddies for fresh snow removal.
Well explained big guy keep it up brother
You ARE such an inspiration. And I learn so much.
Thanks mike
Great videos! Good advice and information.
thanks for your opinion, beside i appreciate you shed and coop related things building programs
Y'all hiring? lol Love how you guys pay so much attention to detail. Don't see that much anymore. Great vids, keep up the great work!
Good job.
The repeating of the same stuff is the best way for it to sink in. Keep it going :) Also...no such thing as peak. We can always get better ;)
KYLE MANY THANKS!!
I have subscribed & almost watched every video. some more than once!! love the educational content as well as the honest mistakes you learn from on the job and using a few viewers ideas.!!
I will use to save a lot and build my own shop correctly in detail efficiently in the future.at 13:56 forward... I like how you use that magic tape measure that jumps by itself to each board when measuring.. needs to demonstrate that one on tools day..LOL
Really enjoy watching you guys work. If you want to come to warmer weather I’ll let you build me a 48x60x16. Going to be 75 degrees this week in Ga.
I'm from North Bay Ontario and we have a lot of snow great with a speed square
love the unedited banter and "bloopers"
First video I watched from u guys.... Nice one xD Love the work!
WE still learning! So keep showing/sharing!
That method of straightening is wild. I thought you were fos, not gonna lie. But that was impressive.
I am not a tradesman of any type. But love the videos as they give an insight to something I have no idea about. Intrigued about the maths you use and how easy you make it seem.
TY for the vids,, Good info for sure.
You should do more of these videos I really like them
Good stuff.
Always Great Content‼️👍👍🔨 Vinny 🇺🇸
Your attention to detail really impresses me, unfortunately I am outside the area you will build in.
Oh, it's about 85 and sunny here right now !
Stay warm brother!!
Very nice - GRK screws, my preferred brand. Didn't know they re-designed them. Nice job as always.
Yall ought come to Texas and build. I'd love to have a barn like that!
Most “snowflakes” would have probably called in a snow day.
You guys are VERY professional and I hope someday when I FINALLY get to have a shop built that I can find someone as professional as you guys
Thanks
You guy's are so awesome at what you do much love Family and I will see you later :)
Fellow carpenter in New York covering lumber is a must unless you want to spent hours scraping
Damn I sure learn a lot of Pro Tips on your channel and for that, I say Thank You Kyle!!
Enjoy it what ya talking about................!!!
Hey Kyle I really enjoy your videos. Watching the fascia move with the chain was really slick. Could you show how and where you guys are connecting the chains to make that fascia on the gable end move where you want it to. Thanks, stay warm and keep up the great content!!!
Steve Smoes yes I hope to do a dedicated video on chains
That will be awesome, I will be looking for it.@@RRBuildings
Very interesting channel!
good job.,.,greetings from argentina.,.,brother
Awesome work and love your attention to detail. If I ever win the lottery, I'll hire y'all to build my dream shop here in Arkansas.
watchin the video on adjustment of the end of building to line it up was worth a thousand words should do more up close video where possible mr de mill keep up good work
Thanks for the feedback
Interesting trick of getting the end rafters to match up nicely at 10:08 in video. Maybe a little explanation of that? Great video.
To be able to do roof steel I have used roofing torch with a 20lb propane tank...just keep it above the Perlins a bit and melt the ice quick ....just really depends on how bad the job needs to be finished...if you have time just wait it out it not melt it n keep it moving👍just a tip
The Crazy Framer doesn’t complain about the weather
Not sure I know him sorry
not having a go Kyle 😂. u should check his channel out
Guess you have to have tarps ready for your winter job side storages... maybe a roof burner to quickly get the ice of.
I do agree that the new grk bit design has a better bite on the screw. I use GRKs a lot and I absolutely love them.
Night and day different in my opinion
