Yo Milan, You asked about tips for competition nerves, so here is one: Make sure you are breathing through your nose, especially in stress situations. Mouth breathing amplifies stress and causes tunnel vision, making it harder to concentrate. When in rest (sitting, laying, or standing still) you should not hear yourself breathing. Your belly should be soft, and your shoulders relaxed and your upper body straight. You can apply this in general while cubing, it also reduces the mental fatigue for longer sessions. Hopes this helps :)
I'm also learing EG right now and I was kinda thinking about the national record, but now i've seen your progression I'm pretty sure you will break it soon, good luck, I was at that comp too btw.
"...but I didn't do that. What I did instead was..." Bahahahaha. Duuuude. I think you did super awesome and you should be extremely proud of the progress you made. I think you've got a tough month ahead of you, but I think you've got it on lock. I've not been to a cubing competition yet, unfortunately, but I've got a lot of past on stage experience and I still to this day get some stage fright or performance anxiety when I'm put on the spot in front of people. I might suggest more exposure, honestly. Maybe try things like karaoke or other things that put you on the spot in front of others. I think it's also really important to put in the time practising and stuff like that ahead of time, but when the day comes, make sure you've got no expectations in mind. I feel like that whole "giving a shit" thing increases the likelihood of the pressure getting to you. Also, as always, super funny video and very well done. You're doing really well paying attention to the small details, which are the distinction between good and great, I think. Your little squirrel while you were solving, the arrow drawn towards your broken cube in the background, etc. Haha. Keep it up, man. You had me rolling! Have fun in Prague!
Casey Wilder man your comments are always the best! And yeah it’s totally true the stuff you say, maybe I’ll dive deeper in figuring out how to perform best in competition 🤔 I’ll try going to karaoke as well 😅 why haven’t you competed yet?
@@CubeHead I'm not sure why. I'm not overly competitive usually and I've never been impressed with my times or anything. Cubing is just a casual hobby. Not to mention, the closest city that would have regularly had events was Dallas and it was probably a four hour drive to get there, so it never even crossed my mind. Now that you're mentioning it, I recently moved to Helsinki. I'm sure there's events here and near by regularly. Haha. May need to change that. 😂

@@xAntisune it was answered by my young son. Thanks for being kind
CubeHead I guess to just try to turn as fluidly as possible and not care about your results, I find that also not setting goals helps a huge amount for improving official times
In comps I do really well in events I don't care about, but I get bad times if I care. I think it might be a good strategy to trick your brain into believing you don't really care. One way to work on that might be to have no goals for a competition and treating it as just a way to practice official solves. I'm working on not caring about 3x3 myself: my next comp doesn't have 3x3, and next time I compete I plan to let other people pick my main, to push myself to not worry about it.
trying not to care is so difficult haha, but it makes sense what you're saying! it'll definitely help if you don't set goals for yourself (like promising to beat the WR 🙈)
My experience at comp is that 4x4 and OH are my best events in comp vs at home and sq1, skewb and at my first 2 comps 3x3 were much slower than usual. All the others were average
The problem is not the solves u did but the approch while taking the the cube to solve was very slow . Maybe 0.5 secs . So ur avg could have been way better. Ur vids r the best . Keep uploading. Hope u see this message and pls reply. Yoooooooo
I struggle with comps nerves a lot. For example in August 2019 I was able to win in the square-1 for the first time and these are my times: 17.90 (21.64) 9.31 19.21 (9.27) 👍 But a placed second anyways PS now I avarege 9.5 - 10.0, but I am improving very fast now
This is how I got a 1.83 official average: I think the most important thing is to drill your algs. When I started 2x2, I knew many many algs, but I was really slow at them, slower than you. But even at your speed, it is possible to execute them twice as fast (the 1.78 should hve been sub-1 easily). You can achieve this by doing setups into the algs and trying to improve your times. Second is recognition. Even though you should onelook 90% of the time, sometimes you mess a solve up and you count a twolook. You should drill twolooks as well. But what helped me the most is: 2 years was 2x2 the only thing I did, and I cared sooo much about it. At a comp, that would make me so nervous, that, even though I averaged 1.9 at home easily, I made so many mistakes and my PR average was like 2.49. At this point I was so dissapointed that I quit 2x2 and practiced different events. One day I realized I had a comp in a week. I took my cube and forced all of my EGs back into my brain. At the day of the comp one thing was different: I was still fast at 2x2, but I mainly wanted to do well in a variety of events, if I wouldn't perform at my best, it would be fine. During the round, my first solve was a missonelook and a 3.2, but I was not dissapointed. Next one was a well executed 1.6 without any shaking. After that I pulled out (still without shaking!) a 1.9 with a really bad lockup, it would have been like 1.7. But I still did't care. 4th solve: Solved face, but bad EG. But here came the pickup training in. Even though the case was really bad, I could execute it without any difficulties. 1.46. And the last scramble was bad. But because my mind set was like "hm this could be pretty good" I just spammed TPS on a 1.9. And there was my 1.83 official average. 97 in the world. That is my story. Don't focus too much on 2x2 please. All the time I spent into it, I could have practiced big cubes for example. If I had done this, I would have a sub-1 5x5 average :) But I'm gonna start practice now! Good luck!
how long did it take u to learn how to recognize cll well. I'm 16 algs in (1 day) and i can recognize them but it takes my a while. Any tips, or should i just keep drilling algs.

I perform really shit at comps, take for example 2x2: at my last comp (also annuntia open last weekend lol) I got a 5,4 average, a 4,9 average, and a 7,9 average (where you judged one of my dnfs) while at home, I average 3,1. With big cubes, it's another story, I mostly average better in comp then at home, I even got a pb2 5x5 single (1:25) at annuntia open
Ooh yeah I remember that DNF! :D and yeah, my 4x4 results are also better in comp than home, so maybe it's because 2x2 is such a short event I don't know 🤷♂️
It's because at your speed 2x2 is mostly based of recognition speed which is really bad for comps. By learning onelooking, you can get rid of those problems pretty easily.

5x5 gettting overall PB on my last comp also me at my main event skewb first round 6.90 avg. I was averaging low 5😅. Me at the final real times 4.56 3.70 3.50 4.66 5. Something. Annoying but actually true times 4.56 ex1 ex1 solve 5.56+2 DNF due to not starting the timer(3.50) 4.66 5.something the second and third solves ruined my average. Real avg 4.31 place 3rd at nationals of Greece and at my 2nd comp. Annoying but actually true average is 5.96 and it gives 9th so I did well in all the events except of my main event😡😫
For events I don't care about I usually perform better in competition. For events I do care about I usually get mostly bad averages and a really good one
