So an imaginary thing that never changes? Sort of like nothing that exists anywhere in the universe. Of course deities change! Sri Genesha starts out with a human head. The god always seem to be fighting to prevent change of any kind, but change happens everywhere. Show me this thing that has never changed.

Ganesha is symbol of integrity; the unity of thought, speach and action. In him the 3 are united. The head =thought, mouth = speach, trunk = action. You say what you think and you do what you say. Only than you can speak of an integer person. So therefor Ganesha is the first deity that is worshipped. Om gang Gánapatáyé namah from Holland

They changed as my Folk changed, often merging with Gods of the Native people we found as we moved West...or so i believe. In Hindu mythology Lord Ganesha's head is that of an elephant. The trunk is prominent. Even in idols made for Ganesh Chathurthi, the trunk is not missing. In fact, Ganesha is symbolic of Pranava form or the form of OM in Sanskrit or Devanagiri. It is the form on which a seeker concentrates to attain salvation. Perhaps, just as scripts evolve, so does the form.

Ganesha has a head of a gana, not an elephant. That's why he is called ganapati, the master of ganas and not ganepati the master of animals.
Ganas are described as distorted, demented beings. It is said that they had limbs without bones coming out of odd parts of their bodies.
So, the sculptors that hadn't ever faced a gana the only thing that could things of was the trunk of an elephant.
If they were living out of the sea, they would have put an octopus as a head.

This is a very interesting concept you've brought out to the public.
There was even a form of Ganesha with a human head (presumably Ādi-Vinayagar) that you mentioned in an older video about Kailasanathar temple in Tamil Nadu. It works great to also see how freely people can express Bhagvan's form in various ways.
Although we will adapt to environments and create various forms/iconography of deity, the truth which is God is Sanatanam (eternal). That's the beauty of Hinduism. As always, brilliant sir. 🙏❤️

Vedicc religion shows alot of change and evolution. This makes sense to me. Conceptions change and the practice fo religious beliefs should as well. In the past, gods and spiritual power were associated with animals. Specifically in the Himalaya with Naga cults. rather than destroy these traditions, in hinduism, the concepts and practice of worship incorporate elements from older beliefs were incorporated with more modern ideas. The naga Vasuki coiled around Lord Shiva neck is an example. The story of Lord Krishna being attacked by Naga who then spontaneously became Krishna devotees..Even a notion such as non violence can become a theme that carries across and between different belief systems.

Pillayar is the Tamil letter O of OM. ஓ . Do you see the elephant ears , tusk in the right and trunk curled ௐ. In the Indian calender you would see days marked pillayar chaturti. These days the pillayar’s would come and meet people to provide solution to their problems . That is why pillayar are called obstacle removers . Their statues are usually found in the streets where three roads meet . Because these pillayar’s will sit there and the village people can locate them easily . Pillayar is found with mouse statue probably because they also practiced medicine and would test new medicine on mice . Even now you will find pillayar statues in older hospitals. Not all statues are meant to be worshipped . It just became like that ..

Nice one Praveen Mohan! Because you asked what do u think, sharing an alternate history with u just for sake of making discussion interesting. Also, it is never wrong to keep an open mind. No it won't fall off. It is possible that Lord Ganesha arrived in India wearing gas mask as places near indus river was bombed with nuclear weapons/ brahmaastras during His period. It is already proven that nuclear fission bombs were used in Asian subcontinent. He could very well be representing a generation. Just a thought.
Or to make things even more interesting, these monuments were desecrated or altered to confuse the future researchers trying to find continuity of cultural flow. May be the trunk of Lord Ganesha in this video was desecrated. The area around the mouth can be carved by recarving the trunk. What if by same analogy, sphinx is actually nandi desecrated by making a face out of the bull and horns, legs cud be curved the way it is from the original bull's legs and finally altering the direction (doing the unimaginable for the technology of the day) and buried for a couple of centuries to be "re-discovered" again. To back up, stories were cooked and planted on the stones of pyramid with random stories and scriptures? The colonisers had 500+ years of unquestioned and untouched dictatorship over history and monuments. Post mortem of pre modern history (boundary regions between modern history and medieval history and ancient history) is also important. It cud therefore go on to prove that despite a millenia of efforts by military, academia and colonization , sanatan dharma and her scriptures like Ramayana and Mahabharata remains the true source of human history. Monuments can be desecrated or ALTERED beyond recognition but thankfully the Ramayana and Mahabharata survived, both orally and in written. 🥸
    #Words are fortresses too.😊

This reminds me of the story of the blind men trying to figure out what an Elephant looks like. An artist can only recreate what he sees accurately. He can create something well with descriptions but not as well as what he sees with their own eyes.
That one depiction in the Indian museum has got to be from before 12,000 years ago. It’s no accident it resembles an extinct species.
