Thank you to all the men and women that work on these helicopters. The situations ya'll work in is a matter of life and death. Thank you again for all you do❤
goof ball Do you feel accomplished and satisfaction at the end of the day? The only reason i ask is because I'm thinking of a future career with life flight.
Of all the emergency medical air lifts that you did, how many of the air lifts do you think were unnecessary and that could have been transported by ground? The reason I asked that question is because I worked in a Level 1 Trauma Medical Center in California and almost half our patients that come by air are not serious enough to travel by air. For example, we get patients by air because they either have a broken arm or leg. In that case, I think they should travel by ground. I guess it is good for the patients to arrive faster by air, but I think we should save our emergency air lifts for our life threatening patients.
When I worked EMS in Las Vegas I was on a rollover MVA 10 miles out of town with 9 patients. 3 helicopters on the deck at one time, 2 FD engines, FD heavy rescue, FD rescue and 5 ambulances. All 9 were transported, 3 by the helicopters and 6 by ground ambulance. It was a crazy scene! I can only imagine what drivers were thinking as they drive past.
@@mickfunny4185 I swear every time I talk to someone who was in the USCG they always tell me "Wow you're the only person who never asked if I was a rescue swimmer" Not all nonepilots in CG Aviation are swimmers. In fact the biggest majority are crew members.
I hope everyone was okay in the end. Its bad when one has to land on the highway. But 3 at once I cant even begin to imagine what that scene must have looked like.
Wait until they get the bill for helicopter ride to the hospital I had a friend of mine who had to airlifted to the hospital do a heart attack because of her work she had to airlifted to hospital that her insurance would cover and her insurance would not cover the helicopter ride even though it one from hospital system she was able to eventually get them to pay for it but she had to jump through so many hopes to get it paided
I am almost afraid to ask, but what happened? And where is this at? How do you even call in 3 helicopters, especially without any confusion. This must be a blessed area to even be able to call in 3 helicopters to one scene. I hope everyone is doing well. Peace...
I don't live in this area and I don't know how big your trauma centers are or where they are or how many helipads are on the hospital, but did they go to separate hospitals or the same one!
+Odin Matrix It really depends on the call. I'm originally from the Middle TN area. The Life Flight crew at Vanderbilt is second to none. The Hospital itself is a Level 1 Trauma Level 4 Neo and Level 3 Burn Unit. They have 6 helicopters total and 5 ready to respond at all times. They have a total of 6 bases they operate from and serve Northern Alabama, Southern Kentucky, and Middle TN.
+VOLFANATIC3 i take it you know a lot about Vanderbilt, but what im trying to get at is did these helicopters all go to a hospital with multiple helipads on that hospital or did all 3 go to different hospitals because most hospitals only have 1 helipad
And Lifeflight doesn’t contract with any insurance companies so it’s all out of network. But the good news is that they can’t balance bill you the other 40% of the bill. Thanks to the No Surprises Act
The first thing I would say is that you probably do have at least three, but you don't see them as much BECAUSE you live in a big city. Outside of interfacility transfers, those birds will be used more in rural areas. It would be cost-prohibitive to use them in major cities for scene flights. That's what ground ambulances are for.
This are the great and versatile EADS EC-135 Helicopters.. I am wondering that the U.S. EMS Services aren´t using U.S. Manufactured Helicopters. Looks like they aren´t as good as the european ones.
Guardian081 we have good helicopters in the U.S. it's just we tend to use other allied countries medevecs a little more so. I have to admit I love those helicopters and I mean our country has nice medevec helicopters as well.
George Theofanous that they do. I know Bell has developed “quieter” ones for major cities. To me, it’s the company and how well they take care of their aircraft more than the manufacturer. I live in an area notorious for medical choppers crashing. One not too far from my house, one in my families hometown, and a couple of more in the OKC metro. 2 of those were Eagle Med who really, honestly SUCKED before air methods bought them out and got rid of their birds in the area
That's what happens when your on a motorcycle and get split in 3 pieces and each part weighs excess of 300lbs 😊 just kiddding ... I hope all made it to see another day.
I was the first to land in a 3- ship request on I-95 near Rowland, NC. Strange seeing the traffic stopped for miles
It's bad whenever they need a medi vac, but needing 3, I can only imagine what that accident scene looked like.

There are quite a few U.S. manufactured EMS helicopters out there. Bell is making big inroads into the EMS field with their latest models.
Eurocopter produces some pretty solid helos possibly the most used in the world
