  • In this video we discuss three golden rules for timing on the forehand. First one we're discussing is your turn on the forehand. Many players don't realize there's a difference between racket take back and and turning the shoulders. It's very important that you turn your shoulders and only start taking the racket back just before the ball bounces. You should initiate your racket take back only once the ball bounces. Don't confuse your shoulder turn with a racket take back. Number two, your left arm plays a major role in forehand timing. Make sure you don't release your left arm too soon or keep your left arm on the racket too long. This will cause you to lose out on timing. And more often than not, you will be late as well. Lastly, consider doing a split step. Every time your opponent contacts the ball. If Thats just too much to think about for you. You can also focus on just being light on the ground having light feet and giving enough steps on your forehand before you contact the ball. Focus on these steps and your timing on your forehand will be better immediately today.
Alright guys, very, very important tip today. Only one tip is extremely important if you have lost your rhythm when it comes to your game of tennis. And if you feel like there's no rhythm, you're not hitting the ball clean enough if you're just not hitting it in the middle of the strings. This tip will help you to immediately have better rhythm on your shots. Simply by adding more steps by shuffling around the ball, your rhythm will be better. You see many players lose their rhythm because they don't realize but they're not in position and they're not in position because they're not taking enough steps. They're not shuffling behind and around the ball to set themselves in the right position. So they walking and stepping around the ball instead of moving and double stepping around the ball, so add more steps when you are preparing add more steps to your preparation of your shots and watch your rhythm come back immediately.

If you learn to internalize these advices and incorporate them in your game you'll level up your game immediately. People tend to overthink their striking technique and completely ignore what's actually important

This is very good advice. I was turning my body immediately and noticing the timing issue. This makes a lots of sense as to why when rallying some hits feel natural and some feel forced.

Good points on rally balls with more time. I find playing doubles, I have less time for groundstrokes. I am either inside or just outside the baseline and the opponent's partner is already at the net if I am late hitting the ball cross court. I tend to serve and volley but at times it's hard to do due to lobs over my partner. Suggestions welcomed.

I have strugged with forehand timing. For me the biggest improvement recently was when I started thinking more about the follow thru and less about the stuff before then. If you watch a swing you can see the shape a racket paints as it goes through the air. I would watch the arc of the ball coming at me, imagine the shape of follow thru I wanted to paint and then think about my follow thru shape intersecting the ball arc and the ball arcing back in the direction I wanted.
