Also, Caeser didn’t want Maximus to become emperor and rule after him, something most people seem to get confused. He wanted to pass the powers onto Maximus, so that Maximus could return Rome to a republic like it was before the rule of the Caesar ie the Roman Empire. Marcus wanted to break that tradition of dictatorship with himself and see tome returned to the people

No it's more like they are training the son of the emperor and they aren't trying to kill him or to show him that they are better fighters than him. You can't really compare mitt holder or even sparring to sword fighting lol it can literally kill you if you aren't paying attention enough or if your skills are trash. Commodus was actually very good but no experience in the battlefield and Maximus was a monster.

The director didn’t want to reshoot everything with a new actor, so they redid Proximo’s plot ending with a body double and some CGI.

GOT is loosely based on the historical War of the Roses 1455-85 between the houses of Lancaster and York 🥀

This isn't based on a true story. But the bad guy, Commodus was a real emperor (he's why toilets are sometimes called Commodes.) He was one of those fucked up dictators who named everything after himself. However, he WAS actually a pretty bad ass fighter and did regularly compete in gladiator games that he put on himself when he was emperor. He got couped, I think by an alliance of senators and the Praetorian guard (the purple cloaked soldier guys in the movie who tried to execute Maximus, the "best" Roman legion who guarded the capital; although, at this point they were sort of a bunch of decadent show offs, more politicians than soldiers.) I could be wrong about that last part though.

Love the irony of discussing people back then watching violence as a means of distraction while rights/freedoms are stripped as they watch a movie about violence, as taxes go up.

Hi! I would highly say REWATCH AEGON TARGARYEN’s crowning scene in episode 9 of House of the Dragon. See if you see the similarities with Gladiator and Joaquin’s performance. Tom, who plays Aegon has really brought a lot of Commodus in Aegon. Brilliant film, one best epics out of Hollywood. One of my favs of all time. This was before all those other Rome shows, due to the popularity of Gladiator. ROME is amazing. WATCH!
