I just picked up a pair of these, ATC SCM50PSLT, the range of music that shines on these speakers is amazing. I had a Mac 7200 for a week but had to hand it back and now running on a decade old integrated and they still sound so stinking good. Ten years demoing and looking for that next speaker and never quite hearing what I was willing to drop some real money on. A chance encounter with a client had me listening to his gorgeous burlwood finished SCM100PSLT and wanting to take them home with me. Found a dealer a couple days later who had some passive towers in stock and in torrential downpours got them home and a couple weeks of hearing my music library again for the first time. ATC is worth every penny and I feel I stole them.
@@glichasasha750 It was not my amp so I really did not push it hard but it was a heftier amp than I currently am using. I am planning on getting a demo with the Hagel 590, I like the numbers this amp produces and the aesthetics are more to my liking.
Hanging guitars on the wall is a pet peeve anywhere outside a celebrity-owned diner-themed kids restaurant, but in a listening room!? I’d bet it puts in way more than most of those treatments take out.
i have always found interesting that the ATC dome midrange is horn loaded ... and i wonder how much this concept is important for the overall performance of that very famous driver I have come to the conclusion that the midrange is very important in a speaker Maybe we are more sentive to that range ?
Yes I had The scm 100 active towers and they needed subs i traded them in for Meridian dsp 8000se, 12 x 8 inch bass drivers and 5x 150 watt amplifiers in full dsp filled in the bottom octave and are sublime sweet and very powerful not as unforgiving of less than good recordings .Although with the best recordings ATCs are terrific and the mid range clarity is of course legendary ..
@@dmgmail7021 Are you saying bass traps limit bass quantity or quality? That's simply not how it works.. but if you mean that bass traps will improve bass then I see what you're saying. But of course, you need massive amounts of porous absorption depth ( at least 1 foot) to be considered a bass trap - if you're using porous absorption
That's weird I wrote trap. Many times I'm writing something and going over it and changing some of the words or my dumbphone is word correcting. But yes I did not intend to wrote that it doesn't make sense. I will edit as to not confuse anyone. Thanks for pointing it out
@ Gary Alexander Not with the 50s. Most critical is to find a pre with the right noise margin for them. They really need break-in time. I hear people debate this and say its your ears that break-in not the speaker....me Maybe...but there is definite change in the speaker I noticed at 35-40 hours. I tracked the time and almost figured it wasn't gonna happen then suddenly they just sort of bloom. And if you have limitations because of your room or just feel the sound accuracy leaves you desiring forced bass , there is bass boost settings on the back, I chose a 1/4 turn only and have been really happy with those results and I don't feel I've lost or compromised detail.
@@marinhrascanec thanks for the feedback. I was thinking to buy p2 to pair my scm 50 sl. I am waiting my 50 to be delivered . You didn’t like the p2 pairing with scm50?

Do you really need that subwoofer with the ATCs? Or is that for home theater? Great sound.

The sub is just a way to open up the sound stage and boost the low end if that happens to be your preference.
What amp and preamp you used ?
Integrated amp Musical Fidelity M6 at that moment .... it was replaced with ATC P2 amp and Audio Research preamp few weeks ago.
