I like how they adjusted the Bass, Mid, and Treble controls while the musician was playing. It helped with noticing the changes vs. stopping and then starting, since it was mid-flight. Nice.
Michael Jordan you can get a lot out of one tonally. Especially the HH model, could pretty much cover anything. I personally can’t be without a P bass, and having a Stingray (single H, 2 band) along with it is all I need. I love their characteristic tone and don’t really look at them as “swiss army knife” basses. They can both do pretty much anything though.
Got an hh aqua sparkle 5 string. If I had the cash I'd gladly go out and get a cruz teal, a burnt apple and a charging green also. I'm sorta glad I can't afford that anyway XD
I love mine. Mine is the Stingray 5h in charcoal sparkle and it's the best 5 string. Definitely a must have in anyone's arsenal. Thanks for the video and keep up the amazing work as always
I recently upgraded my Sterling by Music Man Ray 35 to a StingRay 5 H Special!!!! The improvements Ernie Ball made take this great bass to another level and the lighter weight is a Godsend!!!
What's impressive is the completeness of thought that went into re-engineering their legacy design. A bold move that has paid off. I love everything about the new models, however, the cost may be a barrier for some time. It is what it is, but at least I have a favorite for future consideration.
For the longest time I thought I liked the StingRay Classic the most. Then they released this series and now I'm thinking about the Special HH. I think they fits my style better. I'm not a slap guy.
Bought the ruby satin the second I saw it! I just so happen to have wanted a Stingray for many years and I was watched/listining to Louis Johnson the night before. The RAY4 was discounted to $250 . My sails dude told me about the $50 off because it was a floor model(waiting for me). My dude said she might have some scratches or dings. NOPE! Perfection! Her name is “Ruby Tuesday”😎🤘🏼
I can't afford a real stingray. So i bought a sterling music man stingray ray34 ash black and its just as good maybe even better at half the price. Love the music man
I just ordered one yesterday. I have yet to hear anyone say anything "to the credit of the old design" in comparison to these new ones. Cruz Teal is my lifeblooood.
much better neck, good job MM ! been on mine for 22 years, This is the first time I'm tempted to move on... That insane agressive sound, Leo was a genius, hard to change something not broken. Gutsy. But upper neck access is needed theses days. So pumped !
I absolutely love Music Man Stingrays!!!!...period!!...hands down they are impressive Basses to players & audiences!!! Hope to own ANY version!!...for now tho’....I’m rocking my..... Music Man “Bongo” Bass!!..🎶✨🎸👍🏾 Do a review on one of these Basses too ok!!...✌🏽
Don't get me wrong: I love EBMM basses and I am lucky enough to have 4 of them at home. However, I have been wondering if this thermo treatment of the wood (and again: two of my EBMM basses have roasted necks) is not just a smart and overall cheaper way of getting the wood dried instead of storing it for years and years.
Still love the old Stingrays. I have a black HH maple board & BFR roasted neck rosewood board. Me personally I love a heavier bass. But I think I would have to try a new one. Great review I like your reviews they are so informative.
What camera do you guys use? I'm interested in starting my own channel doing bass vids like what y'all do. Also, I'm on a slight budget, so any cheaper options that are good would be nice!!
Good for them! I always wanted to like Stingrays more than I really did, but the weight and neck dive were kind of turn offs for me. I'll definitely keep an eye out for one of these!
Hello, thanks for the review! Is the HH version fully "slappable" or is this extra fret reducing too much the space to be able to slap correctly? Thanks!
‚It wökt wöwi wöwi wäll‘ 😂😂😂 I got a HH aqua sparkle and a stingray 5 from 2003. Very different instruments. The old guy is really heavy andt the overall playabillity is not as good as the new guy. When it comes to sound, they are also completely different, but it‘s hard to describe the difference. Both sound great for sure.
Love all the new features but for me the price is through the roof nowadays. Four years ago I managed to snag one of the last new 133 series USA 2EQ StingRays for £1k. These Specials are more than twice that.
I was wondering about the durability of the aluminum hardware... It's a rather soft metal, will it serve long enough? Especially the bridge. Does it feel solid and reliable?
Only thing I don't like about the new Stingray is the bridge, everything else is great. I think the bridge on the previous model is the best one, even better than the classic bridge, IMO.
@@edchaos2679 I finally tried one in-store. I've owned a StingRay since 2003 and it is one of my favourite basses. The build quality and reliability (except the output jacks, which always sucked) are on par with my custom shop fender jazz. The new StingRay severely disappointed me, with all the hype. It doesn't feel like a StingRay. They even cheaped out on the pickup cover. Roasted maple is such a gimmick, crappier maple going through a mock aging process. I haven't looked at mussicman instruments seriously since Sterling Ball took over and brought that stupid bongo bass.
I want a bass with low action and with low string tension at standard tuning, every bass I've tried at the music store has high action and really tight string tension... I'm starting to think it's me, any suggestions and recomendations?
I agree, there is too many unplayable good basses hanging around in the music shops! Bring an unbraco (hex key?) nxt time. Or ask them to lower the strings for you? Done in some seconds..
Very nice bass!! I really like the changes, it’s really been thought about.....not changes for the sake of change. I especially like the roasted neck. The one thing I don’t like.....The price! Great playing in the video and good review .....but please quit that silly slap bippetty bappetty silliness!!
I thought you guys were like the magicians Penn and Teller and Lars never spoke, he just let his bass playing do the talking. As a guy who plays StingRays, it is exciting to see this model improve. I am looking forward to trying one out.
I have a 2019 bfr fretless wake up beautiful Harley figured roasted Maple neck and fingerboard which makes a fantastic sounds difference end it's number 4 of 106 and I have a 2003 4 HP another unlined fretless fingerboard with the Piezo pickup as well as quite a few other fretless basses cuz I am in the fretless player I have to say the bfr the new generation of the Stingrays is Ultra............ Between my two front Lissa's and I'm not a maple fingerboard player that neck on that bfr and that beautiful Sunburst finish and fingerboard in next figuring the swamp Ash I believe body and all the aluminum parts and everything else which is pretty much in common with this one that you displaying makes this my primary fretless I even hate to take it out the door!!!!!!!!
I got the stingray special 5 hh in smoked chrome for my birthday and these basses are NO JOKE. they can exceed at every technique and musical style imaginable. I was always a pbass buy but I haven't touched mine since I got this puppy. Phenomenal job by musicman.

I may have a problem. I own 3 of these new Stingrays. They’re amazing. My son is worried I’m gonna buy every finish
Hhahahahahahahhhha
Man, at least grab one of the 2 band preamp ones!
Do you think it would be the only bass a person needs? If you only had 1 bass?

Lars has a voice!!!???
Love this new design so much
3:56 and a third hand?!
Lars speaks English better than me...and I'm English...
You know it's a good bass when Lars talks.
2:00 - deliver unto me THAT TONE!!
yes! that tone is what we in the biz call
*raunchy*

well that was creepy... 3:55
That's Hans Hander. He's the new guy. Doesn't say much, but he's a great co-worker.
I thought it was funny, but also smart, since it demonstrated the changes mid-flight.
It's thing from the Addams Family!!!!!! I was wondering where he went off to!!!!!!
Ric Caliolio 😂
Very handy! lol
Lars is such a badass on a stingray. Well done

Thanks for another excellent video Gregor.
3:56... thank you, Thing
i love your channel. your guys' reviews are seriously amazing, please don't ever stop lol.
Haven't seen René lately. Busy man, I take it?
We're recording 4 new videos with him monday next week!
Is there any vids of Rene playing in a band situation?
@@jhm2112 you should check out his own channel :)
Search for Namika on RUclips. That the band he's mostly involved with, they're super successful in Germany

You still have to dry it in prior like a normal maple neck.
That charcoal sparkle is beautiful!
I want one of these more than anything
Great. What do you think, its better to choose with ebony or maple frettboard to play metal? Is the sound much different?

great job guys, awesome video. more people should do videos like this. you got a new sub too.

Any chance you could do a shootout on the new Sterling Stingrays Vs the new Stingrays?
Do you think Ernie Ball would pay for that?
I was wondering about the durability of the aluminum hardware... It's a rather soft metal, will it serve long enough? Especially the bridge. Does it feel solid and reliable?

nice bass and great play!
Does it have the same but width as the old Stingrays? Thanks.
How did you record? Directly to the soundboard or with a amp?
They kind of sound thinner, or is it just me? Loss of mass isn't always good for tonal considerations. Also, they look cheaper, despite the price tag.
Yep. Even on a cellphone I can tell it doesn't have the same bass roll off as the traditional ones.

@@edchaos2679 Sad thing is these may be the new standard. the early 2000's StingRays were definitely some of the best. I haven't liked them since.
What overdrive is that at about the 2 min mark? Sounds great would really like to know.
Wow really sounds great!!
God i can't wait till I see my sting ray bass

Probably

I suggest the music store doesn’t do good setups. Maybe it’s you, maybe it’s them. This sounds like the beginning of an Ed Sheeran song
I agree, there is too many unplayable good basses hanging around in the music shops! Bring an unbraco (hex key?) nxt time. Or ask them to lower the strings for you? Done in some seconds..
just look at the Lars happy face ;))
That is a great sounding bass.
Od and fuzz the lows and mids that and be unstoppable.
Sounds great !!
Thanks Gregor. I got a 4H in January and you’re tellling me it’s obsolete now? 😂 Nice video.
Yes, everyone: Please throw away all your old StingRays ;)

I'd sell my soul for one but my soul is not worth as much as the crazy cost of stingray special . Maybe I'll start a "go fund me".
Great bass
what about NECK THROUGH? Extremely intrresting instrument.
The neck through models are still available
Damn, I want one
Lars should be named "Mr. STINGRAY!!
Lars "Stingray" Lehmann!!
What's the riff at 1:07 ?
Hi Quentin! 90% of the grooves I play for Gregor are spontaneous ideas/improvsations. This is one of them! Atb, Lars
has anyone had an issue with this bass distorting? New batteries, new strings, and mine distorts.
Is the input of your amp set right? Those basses have high output volume
Didn’t expect the thick accent but I like it. Lol nice review and nice bass.

Still no passive control when your batteries die. Seems like that would’ve been the easiest thing to do
Matthew Ruderman The battery lasts for years and years. Don’t worry.
I once played a passive Music Man style bass. It was well built, but it sounded horrible. I rather carry extra batteries than go into passive mode
seems like you should just be able to replace your battery. you have an active bass. you should have batteries. simple as that
Putting a down payment on one friday!!!! At bass central!! I can not wait I have 2 but this will be my first new one, so ill have 04/14/and a 2020
The Hand.....YES!!!!!!!
Creepy
And when you want to make your bass shine with that meaty analog tone, why have a stack and full head by Orange around.
24 fret would be cool like Harley Benton
Gregor nur wie Bring ich das meiner Frau bei 🤣😂🤣
You look like Thor/The Mountain - awesome!!!
Arnold?!?!?
I got the stingray special 5 hh in smoked chrome for my birthday and these basses are NO JOKE. they can exceed at every technique and musical style imaginable. I was always a pbass buy but I haven't touched mine since I got this puppy. Phenomenal job by musicman.

Ummm-- maybe it's jsut me, but when those knobs are turned, I don't hear ANY difference in the sound at all.
I do, its a bit louder
You should hear it if you are listening through headphones
