Been through a few shutdowns. One was a month long from after Christmas till the end of January. Got a lot of stuff done at home. Make sure you have an emergency fund for times like these. If you don't have backup funding, you can use a credit card or cards to get by. Use them and pay pack when you get paid. Mortgage companies and banks should hopefully give you a break due to circumstances like this if you cannot make ends meet for some reason.
As a taxpayer I am livid that government workers are going to be paid for days not worked. As someone who has bills to pay, I'm glad I can count on eventually getting that paycheck.
But, it is not the working man’s fault that congress can’t pass the budget. Why should they be punished. I remember sequestration when we only got partial payment with no back pay.
Well the fiscal year was changed from June 30 to September 30 to allow more time. Ha Ha. The national debt is $33.1 Trillion. The deficit for 2023 is $1.5 Trillion. And then we celebrate congressional reps and senators on being in office for many years. Interesting dynamic. Some places use working-capital funding and are not immediately affected although non essential travel and things like that might be curtailed to conserve cash. By the way, thanks for the video.
And as for how I feel? If the rest of us failed year after year, time after time, at the same very important task, we'd be fired. It's disgusting.

Great point, that emergency fund is critical!
I recall that the DoD didn't get furloughed last time.
It's position dependent as well, based on the agency's contingency plans.

How do you feel about this shutdown, or the fact that Congress continues to be paid when you don't? COMMENT with your thoughts!
Love it when the guy sitting next to me gets furloughed, I have to come in, yet we both get back-paid when it's over.
That's a tough one...@@jake-mv5oi
"Essential" employees have to stay and work while the non-essential employees get to go home on a vacation and still get paid.
That's always tough, we have clients who have experienced this.
Good info, especially for those new to the game. Thanks for posting.
Glad it helped! If you remain a fed for a long career, you'll likely experience more of these along the way.
What about the 5% match from the tsp? Will the tsp be open? Or the frtib?
The FRTIB stays open to administer the TSP since they are non-appropriated, but TSP contributions will stop during the shutdown and resume afterwards.
@TheFedCorner i work for USPS, my boss has not said anything. Am I still going to be paid with no interruptions?

It certainly is interesting. Imagine any company as big as the federal government. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Comments are supposed to be civil.....people are supposed to feel civil when the republicans are still being paid ?
