I only recently discovered Alma and she is amazingly talented and very humble. I was able to watch her opera Cinderealla on a streaming service and hope I can watch the new opera The Emperor's new Waltz soon too.
I see the listener (reactor?) really appreciates the beauty of Alma's music. So glad she has the refinement to appreciate refinement. This performance brings back to me the excitement of hearing these waltzes for the first time.

I really liked the waltzes. They are in no way inferior to a Strauss waltz. Alma brings back music from another era. Fresh and modern, yet classic. A great idea from Alma. Great composed. Music is so diverse and beautiful. I did a little research. Alma is 18 years old. i.e. in 2019 she was 14 years old. She is not only a composer. She is also a pianist and violinist. Alma Deutscher was born on February 18, 2005. She began playing the piano at the age of two and the violin at the age of three. At the age of six she composed her first piano sonata. I once thought Angelina Jordan was the most phenomenal musical prodigy until I came across Alma. What she can do is inexplicable, beautiful music just flows out of her like a faucet.
Angelina sings like an angel; Alma composes and plays like an angel. Actually, I think they are comparable in their genres. They are both brilliant musical talents.
Her good friend, Amira Willighagen a Dutch opera soprano is another unbelievable singer/soul. She won Holland's Got Talent in 2013 at age 9. There's a video of Amira & Alma singing together from Alma's Cinderella opera; they are so cute together. LucieV, i have Subscribed & Liked and looking forward to many more Amira reactions who just turned 19 and is planning a world tour this year. At 72 i never liked opera, now i absolutely love Amira's talent and humility.
This musical aptitude is forged from lifetimes of musical study. These prodigies simply carry that genius in time after time. They remember and simply "know" how music works. God does not hand out gifts. They are learned and earned!

Alma has strongly defended her belief that music should be beautiful. Recently she was invited to contribute an article to a scholarly volume entitled THE LAST DAYS OF THE OPERA (published in 2022}. The book consists of many short articles by important people in the music world. Alma wrote her's when aged 15. The oldest being in their 90s. Her title, Modern Audiences and Modern Operas, is excellent.
You might also enjoy Alma's Dance of the Solent Mermaids (suggest World Premiere, as Alma appears at the end). At the age of 12 she published her first full opera, Cinderella, on DVD, and of course much more before and since. She was born in 2005.
She learned to play the piano at 2 and the violin at 3 she started to compose at 4. She could read and write music notation at 3 and a half. She begged to learn to read and write regular and her parents told her she would learn to read when she started school. Her first day at school she came home crying and told her parents you promised me they would teach me to read and they didn't teach me anything. As a consequence they home schooled her and she never went to school again. Her parents were well qualified. Her mother is a professor of old English literature and her father is aa professor of linguistics and mathematics. There are many videos of her playing concerts on violin and piano beginning at age 5. There is a huge volume of material available.
Jane Glover also conducted Alma's Cinderella, the complete opera, while Alma played several instruments. In Alma's revised version she didn't play any instruments but conducted the whole performance herself!
Wonderful!! As far as I know Alma Deutscher is about the same age as Amira Willighagen (Amira has just turned 19). Angelina Jordan is 17.... Three top musicians with, I think, a bright musical future ahead of them if they want to continue in this direction as they are fully grown up.

This was the finale of her sold out Carnegie Hall concert of her work. She played her Piano and Violin concertos and songs from her CINDERELLA opera.
She now plays a permanent loaner Stradivarius. It was worth ten million dollars when she got it. Now it’s probably doubled.
