- In This episode I tell you all about Farleigh Hungerford Castle in Farleigh Hungerford, England as well as all about the incredible Hungerford family. And when I say incredible, I mean super dramatic. This family is a soap opera waiting to happen! Stick to the end... I promise it’s worth it. The farther you journey down the branches of the family tree, the more intrigue ensues.

Sir Thomas Hungerford 1328 1397 was my 20x great grandfather who you helped me learn more about and his alarming and startling descendents who flew too close to the wind so thank you!
Sir Thomas was also a distant great grandfather of mine.
We visited Farleigh Hungerford castle a few years ago and found the family tree upstairs on the wall of the building behind the chappel.
That's where we found our missing link on that wall.
Our last name is now spelled Farley
Am I the only one thankful that wigs are no longer a style? 🤔 My goodness this episode was chock full of history. Loved it Evelyn! As also superb droning Chris! Outstanding episode!
Bahahahahahah! What you like want to bathe and stuff?!? Come on Scott!! Live a little! 😂😂😂 Chris will be VERY please his efforts were noticed! But hey what about all the research and memorization the blonde chick had to do?!? 😉😉😉
Thanks for showing us around I just did our family tree and found out I am a descendent of Sir Thomas Hungerford who built the castle, I live in Australia its on my bucket list hopefully I might get there one day.
Could listen to you tell stories all day !! 🏰🐩
The Queen is back, with a thriller! You had me cringing for most of the video! Ghost Angus and her BBQ strangled husband.... Fascinating ... I love it! I'll have the popcorn ready for the next one!
Hahahahha! I promised murder and mayhem!! Thank you so so much for watching David!! Aren’t those Hungerfod’s coo-coo?!💚🏰🏴🙏🏻😁
Wow! Such a wild history! I can't believe you get to live right next to this place.
Aren’t they super bonkers?! It’s almost as good as living next to Zion!!! 😉😉😉 thank you for watching friend!!!
Loved the drama, really was like a soap opera. Thank you Queen Of The Castles 😊
Hahahhaha! Yay! Those nutty Hungerfords! Not so great at marriage!!!
Thank you friend!! 💚🙏🏻😁🏴🏰
Thank you for an excellent video that brought an otherwise dry family tree to life. Thomas Hungerford was my 18th great-grandfather and Walter, K.G. my 17th. The line then went to ladies (Walter's daughter Elizabeth marrying into the de Courtenay family), so we lost the Hungerford name. An American Victorian woman actually published the history of the Hungerford family. Moreso, I value my 5 Plantagenet king grandfathers and William Marshall, KT, Earl of Pembroke grandfather ("the greatest knight to ever live"). My dad and mother brought several very unique lineages together.
Ohhh the Hungerford’s are anything but dry!!! So glad you enjoyed the video. 💚💚🙏🏻🏰
So many fascinating facts behind this castle. Great episode!
Thank you Gabi! Not going to lie it took me almost a month to research all of this stuff... and I still had to condense it! So many Hungerford stories!!! 💚🙏🏻😁🏰🏴
It's a decent set of ruins with some dark history and the lead coffins in the vault. This Castle is only a few miles from us, we used to take the kids there for picnics and a run around the grounds. Old Wardour Castle on the Warminster to Shaftsbury road is another interesting place to visit.
Yes!! LOVE Wardour and the surrounding area there. Such a pretty place! The chapel was closed to to Covid - darn it all. That’s definitely the best part of the whole castle. I agree with you! 💚🙏🏻😁🏰🏴
@@EvelynEdwards I love the original paintings on the Chapel walls.
@@neanderthaloutdoors9202 ohhhhh yes!!! Amazing how vibrant the paint still is!!
This is a very well produced mini documentary.
We learned of some of the events you talked about and presented new stories aa well.
If sent this to my daughter and granddaughter.
They'll both enjoy this very much.
Thank you
Thank you so much! Glad to share some new stories with you. 💚🏰
Wonderful, as usual, Evelyn. You are such a good role model - living your best life, following your path/journey of passion for singing, acting, history (especially castles). Will look forward to your next episode. Take care 🤗
Thank you so so much Linda!! Definitely took me some bravery to get to this point... but am already glad I finally got here. Next step COOS!! ;) 💚💚
👏👏👏 bravo!!! I just love this! It's not only the thrilling history of the castle, but also the photography, your lovely sense of humour, the very fact that you are almost "a neighbour" of the castle that makes this a fascinating video 👏👏👏
Ahhh Maria! Thank you so so much! This just brightened my day! Thank you for watching! 💚🙏🏻☺️🏰🏴
Yay! Great to see you back with another great and informative castle trip.
Thank you so so much!! The research on this was long and hard... but oh the crazy story gems!!! Thank you fir watching!!! 💚🙏🏻🏰😁🏴
So I too have Hungerford in my (very amateur) family tree. But after watching this video till the end. I'm convinced these are my ancestors 😂😅😊
😂😂😂😉💚🏰
Crenellating without a license 😂😂❤
🏰🚫😉
I spent a very pleasurable evening there in the early 1980's
Woo Hoo- another place on my list to visit! Thanks Evelyn!
Yaaaaay! Very quick little car ride from Bath!! Miss you girl!! Sending you super hugs! 💚🏰🙏🏻😁🏴

Awww YAY!! Thank you friend! You noticing the editing means SO MUCH! Who knew what a labour intensive skill this has been to learn! All worth it! I can add it to my resume with castle nerd! ;)
@@EvelynEdwards Aw thanks, Evelyn. Yes, your editing is amazing. I love the intro video too. I agree it's very hard to learn editing and a lot of time and effort put into it so I really appreciate all your hard work. The drone footage is excellent too. Looking forward to the next episode of "Queen of the Castle" 🏰👑😊
@@cathoutdoors523 thank you friend!!

My grandmas done all the ancestory and family tree stuff and has linked us back to the first king of Scotland and direct descendants of the farleigh hungerfords definitely going to visit soon
Welcome back Evelyn....another very interesting story of one of UK’s castles and well presented x
Thank you so so much Stephen! It feels so good to be able to explore again! Restaurants closed I can handle! No castles was HARD! 😉💚🙏🏻🏰🏴

Current owner is lovely and lives close by to Nunney. Looking forward to your video very much
@@neilbartlett7568 ahhh Nunney is English Heritage alas! But there are some super super cute properties that have an amazing view! We looked at a couple!!

My absolute pleasure!!! Thank you so much for watching Isi!! 💚🙏🏻😁🏰🏴
My family tree has Hungerfords from 1280 to 1600. so glad to find this video
Oh amazing!! Those are basically the prime dates of the Hungerfords at this castle! Fantastic! What an amazing family to have as pet of your family tree!
Hi, Ned maybe we are distant cousins as just recently found out that some of the Hungerfords mentioned in the video are my direct ancestors too. I don't live too far away from Farleigh Hungerford. So definitely will be visiting it in the near future. ❤😊
I've now booked to go tomorrow...can't wait! Thank you Evelyn! 🥰😊
@@ginacerretelli348 ahhhhhh YAAAAAYYYY!! I think the chapel with the led coffins is still closed! 😩😩 but you are going to know more than they do about this castle!!
@@EvelynEdwards ahh i did wonder that after writing message last. I have joined English Heritage a few days ago, so its free to visit now and I live in Trowbridge so not far away... it'll be a good excuse to go back again soon 😊
Thank you 😊
You're definately "Queen of the Castles"! 👑
Hahahahha! Bless you friend!! 💚💚💚💚🤗🤗
Yay!!! Happy you have returned! Loved the video, the incredible stories and the history. I’m excited to “tour with” as we are still battling this pesky 🦠 and into an other extended lockdown 😷🤬. (Added to my travel list #2022). Cheers from 🇨🇦☘️🐑.
Thaaaaaank you Nancy!!! It’s good to be back!! I had to make an extra long episode to make up for being away for so long! I couldn’t help it! There were so many crazy Hungerford stories!! 💚💚💚🏴🏰🙏🏻🤗😁
Such artistry. The music, visuals, and stories are superb. As are you.
Oh Louis! Thank you! You’ve made me blush. Thank you so much for taking the time to write a note! 💚🙏🏻🏰🏴☺️
Welcome back Queenie! ❤️Fascinating stuff right on your doorstep! An impressive site.. owns the castle now?
Thaaaaaank you Darren.... owns is a tricky word. It’s a national monument “run” by English Heritage. I definitely like it more now that I know all of the drama.... the church, when it’s open, on the site is UH-MAZING! 💚🙏🏻😁🏰🏴
We want more!!! We want more!!!! We want more!!!
More longer episodes coming soon! 💚🏰
The charming of the Somerset Castles
Right by my house!! 💚🏴🏰

Ahhhh yay!!! Welcome! Thank you so much! 💚🏰
Can you take us inside castle?
I'm a newcomer to your channel & love your vids. Such interesting places & you do a brilliant job of imparting history in an absorbing enjoyable way 😊
Ohhh thank you so so much! I’m humbled. I have certainly been bored to historic tears at some of the ways history was presented to me ... so that really means a lot! Thank you. 💚🙏🏻🏰🏴☺️
Really nice Evelyn, great content and what a cool story behind the place.i have sent you a DM on facebook! Let me know what you think. Keep on with the great work. SR
Thank you soooo much! The Hungerfords are a reassure trove of stories! I’ll look on Facebook! 💚🙏🏻😁🏰🏴
My ancestors- actually 13th greatgrandfather
My grandfather .. Burle D Hungerford
Yay! So glad you hopped over to watch! Your people! And one of your many family homes! They had LOTS!!
@@EvelynEdwards one of the women (hungerford) married a Smithson. They had no children. They left their money to the USA to build an educational institute. Smithsonian Institute. Do you know that history?
@@2bakaphoebe now that is FABULOUS! My knowledge stopes at the “The Spendthrift” who had to sell everything and died a pauper. But I love that they are linked to the Smithsonians!
My family blood line too
That was some dead people drama!!!
💚☠️😉😁
But what happened to the woman in the tower and what happened to the castle?
The woman in the tower remarried! The castle was sold a few more times and fell into disrepair and ruins. 💚💚
@@EvelynEdwards I was looking for this question!! I hope her remarried life was a happy one for her. My heart went out to her and so glad she lived on. When I read the way of their words back then it is fascinating how different our language was used even though we speak English. Definitely a different timeline. I just discovered your channel and am enjoying it so much. I am Norwegian and hope to find some history from there that you come across. Love and light to you!
@@northernlightz2959 💚💚💚 so glad you found me!!
