I would say coop was the best player up until last summer. He went the position-less route and now he’s a number 2 option. I can see a Franz Wagner role maybe a taller Mikal Bridges, Jeremy Grant but definitely not a number one option. Ace is the best scorer in HS basketball. When I see mfs say sht like, Cooper's bball IQ is better than Ace's, i already know why they truly like Cooper over Ace. The fact is, Ace is a far superior athlete compared to Cooper, has better footwork, better shooting/shooting form, is more fluid, better handles, and just has that determination in him. Ace has good court vision, makes the right and timely passes but also knows when he needs to take over. Defensively, Ace tends to take breaks on defense but, when he's locked in, it's over for the opponent. These two should have never been compared to one another, Ace is just that much better!

I think you are absolutely correct in your assessment at this point in time. A LOT depends on how HUNGRY Cooper is when NBA time comes. College will hone his skills greatly and give him the basic tools for the NBA. However, Hunger in his belly to start or even get game playing time will depend on if he rises to the occasion to play with and against the best of the best of the best in the world or will he get in his own way in his head and Wilt like a wall flower? Thousands before him did exactly that. Wilted. Were sent to G-League to get their Shirt😜 together to come back up and just never did. Of course I want ALL these young men to succeed but the reality is there. It can't be ignored. Personally, I think the kid should immediately be mentored by White Chocolate and run with him and his pickup team over summers and school breaks. He doesn't need anymore basketball summer camps, college ball will take care of his skills, but Jason Williams can definitely put this kid in the right mindset & reality of college and early start to NBA days😎👍🏾🏀

By rating Ace Bailey above Cooper Flagg, you've highlighted all that is wrong with the current NBA, and the current basketball fan. This obsession with hero ball, and scoring. Basketball should be a team game, played at both ends of the court, and Cooper's all round game is far superior to that of Bailey; but all anybody cares about nowadays is highlight reel buckets. The game is gone.

@@davidpark2509Defense matters in the NBA. Ace Bailey is faaar better than Flagg offensively but Flagg adds defense which we especially saw in the playoffs this year with more physicality being allowed. It's like the argument between James Harden and D-Wade. James is better than Wade offensively he's a better shooter and the offense in Houston was built to support his playstyle and produce monster numbers. But Wade is a better defender. That's why the Hawks struggle despite Trae Young being so good cause he is a below average defender even though he has gotten a little better. In highschool defense definitely doesn't matter but in the NBA it matters if you're trying to actually win games. Or he has to become a ridiculous Dame or Curry level scorer and even they are super active with their hands although part of the Bucks troubles this year was Dame being trash at defense.

After Flagg's sophomore year, there was only a moderate amount of excitement about him. He was not a focal point of the Monteverde offense, and only averaged 9 points a game. He played within the system and let older players get a good deal of the spotlight. Then in his first game of the off-season, he broke the national EYBL scoring record by putting up 52 points. He continued to dominate the entire summer as the focal point of the Maine offense becoming the consensus #1 player in the country. After skipping his junior year and reclassifying as a senior, he's back playing with 4 fellow 5-star players in the starting unit at Monteverde. He's putting up very good stats, but is sharing the spotlight on the #1 team in the country without a hint of jealousy. I think Cooper needs to tighten up his handle and the mechanics of his jump shot could use some improving. However, I also think that if Cooper and Bailey would switch teams, Coopers stats, like they were this summer, would be far higher, while Ace's stats would be considerably lower.

I don’t think that you can put ace over coop because realistically no matter how good he is there is not anyone currently in hs outside of aj Dybantsa who is skilled enough offensively to become the number one option immediately in the nba. So we will have to see how ace performs in a systems where he is not the number 1 option. Ace is playing for decent mceachern where he can take whatever shot he wants and he is going to play for a rutger team where he will be the number 1 option from day one. Coop has shown us this year and last year he is able to still have a relative impact while not being the number one option on his team. Also cooper is the better defender . Ace is very talented and I don’t know if this is a hot take, but I personally don’t even have him over Dylan Harper who is a big guard who has shown that he can facilitate and lead his team to compete with some of the best in the nation at the city of palms classicz

cooper was definitely the best 16 this summer. You could argue he had the greatest hs summer ever. Made it to 16u championship eybl and lost to a team he had beaten before that had more depth. He won the nbpa camp mvp. Also in no way shape or form has ace always been the best player on the court. When Mceachern played Harvard westlake he was the 3rd best player on the court. I like Ace's game more as well, but I think the arguments you're making in this video are very flawed.
You start off with explosive scorer, and then you proceed to list everyone who is or isn't an explosive scorer in the nba as an example. The issue is we're ranking prospects that haven't touched the nba floor. Obviously, players that can score explosively at the nba level are going to be seen as successful. You listed players like zion and markelle fultz as non-explosive scorers, but they were averaging more in college than players like cade cunningham and anthony edwards. Explosive scoring prospects have been unsuccessful in the nba. Using nba results to gauge nba prospects is just hindsight thinking. If Cooper Flagg ends up averaging more than Ace Bailey in the NBA, are you going to say Flagg was a more explosive scoring prospect?
Then you use player comparisons as another factor in gauging prospects. Sure, I'd rather have kevin durant over andrei kirilenko. However, we have no idea how these players will live up to these comparisons. I'd take rich man's kirilenko over dollar store durant any day of the week. There are so many draft comparisons that age so poorly. Giannis had a draft comparison of Evan Turner, and Deandre Ayton had a draft comparison of David Robinson. Flagg could easily surpass Kirilenko, and Bailey could just as easily fall short of Paul George. There's a lot more nuance to evaluating prospects than just player archetypes.
Finally, you made an argument using "Aura". This is actually just ridiculous. How are you even defining aura? How much players fear another player? Is it based of confidence? Personality? If it's fear, that can be earned just from scoring a bunch on other teams. If aura can be earned by nba success, then you are once again resorting to hindsight thinking to evaluate prospects. If it's confidence, I don't think either player lacks confidence. If it's personality, I would have to say there are plenty of players that have bland personalities that have found success (Jokic, Kawhi, Tim Duncan, etc.). Using aura before either player has played an NBA minute has to be a terrible metric in prospect evaluation. There are way too many players that can light it up in high school and fall short in the NBA.
You should have went further into each player's strengths and weaknesses. You could have said something along the lines of "This move of Flagg will not work in the NBA for this reason, this weakness is a bigger issue, etc." Instead, you went into all this intangible talk, and you end up with 10 minutes of minimal substance.

    I 💯 percent agree.
I dont have a clue why anyone would use a 1st pick in such a talented draft as this!
    I'm happy.
I hope Ace stays at 2nd cause hes coming to the TO Raptors!
We trust in Massi and Ace fits with us so well!

This is cool and all but they draft from college stats and Cooper has shown he can do this stuff against anyone. He's just not a ballhog type of guy. Ace Bailey can get you 40 points but he also has games where he's completely useless not scoring and getting a bunch of turnovers.
But either way you've made the argument for better and also talking about the seed. If you think Bailey gets the 1st seed over Flagg? Sure, no issue with that. But who's better? I think Bailey won't have a long promising career if he doesn't fix some huge issues. Flagg is currently NBA ready. He just won't be the main guy getting the buckets as of now.
Cooper Flagg might become an AD type of player. He will probably get a little bit taller still, last I checked he's now the same height as Bam Adebayo and Bam is amazing right now. But Flagg his defense is actually amazing. Once he gains some muscles and is done growing I expect him to have a long successful career and him not getting 1st seed won't matter.
Cause even though I think Flagg is for sure better, I can totally see him not score that much on this stacked Duke team while Bailey will ball hog and score a lot so yeah he could take that 1st seed.

    * I do think, after reading this 2024 sport's history of Ace Bailey, the word "overrated" may soon come to pass? ;)
Jacob Wilkins, a four-star wing committed to Georgia, posted 12 points and a dozen rebounds for Grayson, according to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution. He led the charge on the glass, as Grayson outrebounded McEachern 47-27.
As important as the rebounding was 6-foot-2 guard Anthony Alston’s defense on Bailey, a 6-foot-8 wing committed to Rutgers. Bailey scored 14 in the first half before Alston told Grayson head coach Geoffrey Pierce to let him go one-on-one for defense instead of zone, according to the AJC.
“Alston was the defensive player in our region this year for a reason,” Pierce said to the outlet. “He’s one of the best defenders I’ve ever coached. He came to me at halftime and said, ‘Don’t go zone anymore. I’ve got him.’ So, hats off to him for that.”
Thanks to Alston’s physical defense, Bailey scored only four points in the second half.

I think it’s closer than what ppl think but Cooper has a high ceiling as well, when you talk about AK47, Matrix and Gordon I think his ceiling is higher. He has a good feel for the game, and he has the size and fluidity to develop offensively, couple that with what he brings defensively and you’ve got an all star. Ace is a beast tho, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he did end up being the best of this class

  • @hoopswrld

Really great analysis bro you bodied this just subbed I Agree I love cooper as a prospect but I agree ACE is better . The game is about a bucket and although he’s not as a good of defender as cooper he still has height length & athleticism on his side he could get better and be an effective defender. Cooper defensively versatility is insane tho and if he takes a leap offensively he still could out race ACE

Coop reminds me of Andre Kirilenko.. versatile on both ends of the court and can shoot 3 (though Andre was more aggressive in my opinion). Very talented indeed but at this point, Coop still has to improve to show he can be a franchise player. If he really gets to be drafted #1, hopefully he has significantly developed by then as a more aggressive and strong leader.. he's seems to be a nice kid, we don't want him to be in those draft bust lists.

5:30 this point makes zero sense, Zion's issues have literally all been due to weight issues not "scoring issues", he's had a better scoring output than several guys you went on to list, Zion was giving you an incredibly efficient 27 in year 2 and was getting all nba shouts. the fear factor perspective you went on to talk about also makes no sense it was basically "these nba busts weren't good in the NBA so they weren't feared but these guys are good players so they are feared". I can see Ace being the better prospect but some very iffy talking points in this vid no disrespect.

  • @sportsandstuff99

The ceiling of Ace Bailey is higher becasue he can do all the KD/PG/TMAC offense at that ceiling. But if ends up being like a 37% three point shooter, his game impact drastically goes down. If Flagg is a 37% 3pt shooter I still think he is an allnba level player. In the nba truly there are only about 10 guys who are the top of the top of leading an offense. If your best on ball creator isnt in that top 10 your team isnt good. Everybody can use a Flagg type. Not everybody can use a Bailey type.

where your wrong is saying coop is a glorified role player. He definintly takes the back seat to his teamates sometimes and his coach has him playing more of abig, but when he played eybl against great vcomp like the boozer twins in 16u, which is how old he is so he should have been there, i know in your video you where wondering about that, but he played with his age group. people like dybantsta are actully older than him playing in younger grades so it makes it seem more than it is. when coop played aau he was the man. He did everything even though he messed up and took bad shots sometimes. hes also the best devensive player in high school and probably college as well. Ace plays soft on defense and stands strait up. Coop is also bigger and more phyiscall. They can both get ot the rim though coops more advanced in the post, and ace can shoot it a little better. time will tell who ends up best.

That player comparion chart was definitely bullshit 😭 check the comps next offseason when these dudes become serious but overall Coop is just gonna translate to the NBA better because he plays defense you're not really gonna struggle adding him to your lineups he has a higher floor than Bailey so I think he'll go #1 But it also depends with the team that has the pick like I'd expect the Nets to go with Flagg because of his higher floor and defensive versatility while I'd expect Detroit or Washington to go Bailey because they'd want to add a scoring punch to their team.

Cooper's game is better suited for winning basketball. He's unselfish and a team player. Ace is a better shooter but that's about it. The NBA is going the way of the point center and point forward and away from one-on-one scoring.
