@@d3adlyrainbowZzz 66 cents for the Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate printing! Thankfully the price has gone down on all of the printings, but the others are still over a dollar.
It's a good idea, which can be improved with proliferate cards such as Contagion Clasp/Engine, Spread the Sickness and Plaguemaw Beast, and with more reanimation with cards such as Phyrexian Reclamation, since Meren will be getting killed at every chance the opponents will have, also Glistening Oil and Grafted Exoskeleton will give infect to any creature we place it over, and with Meren their drawbacks are negligible.
And if there's money available, Rancor, Hand of Praetors and Skithyrix are also options to upgrade.
Hi I know this is way late but was wondering what cards you would replace with the ones you suggested above?
I'm fairly certain Putrefax gets sacrificed at the beginning of each end step so bringing it back with Meren will only get you another experience counter
No because you can stack triggers, that trigger will only happen once per endstep, so if you sac it then bring it back and it will be fine

Can you even bring it back? Even if you stack the triggers correctly, Merren's trigger needs targets and it won't find putrefax in the graveyard meaning it'll just be sacced and you'll wait another whole rotation right ?

@@kits4nePutrefax’s ability works for every end step apparently. I looked it up and officially it’s for every end step, not just yours sadly. I assumed it was only on yours too, that’s the rule my table had since we didn’t understand it, but thems the breaks.
Im really late but.... I got the really cool version of Meren awhile and I was never to make a goodd deck. I'm really like the sound of this! If I "pull the trigger" I'm definitely adding vorinclex monstrous hunter that I pulled awhile ago. If he is out, an opponent only had to take 5 counters!
I've made many changes since I had bought it, but I still have the old deck tech for Meren built. It's one of my best decks, and I have the secret lair version to add that bit of extra bling to the deck. I think it's hilarious you did an infect take on Meren since my buddy just made a Brokkos infect deck.

C15 was the introduction of experience counters. It's hilarious how much better Meren is better than the other commanders introduced there.

I don't play infect, but I have loved sacrifice decks since inistraad and my blood artist decks. 😁 I have a nasty Meren commander deck too.
Love the videos, new to mtg but these builds have helped a ton. I focused my meren deck on sac and etb / death triggers but this is a cool take. I noticed in a video you had with the professor years ago you mentioned difficulty with budget tutors and one I think that goes really well with meren is illicit shipment. It's a tutor with casualty 3 that can let you grab two cards and I think it's only 5 or 10 cents just wanted to throw it out there for you or anyone else looking for a tutor solution for commanders that like to see things die. I never seem to see it in other decks but I love it in my graveyard decks hopefully this is useful to someone!
This is a rude thing to do but I did it. I have an Ashnod's Alter and Pentavus in my Meren. I don't think I need to go into more detail about how gross that is.

Sounds fun and interesting, but I disagree with the golden pig. Correct me if I am wrong, you'll only get one swing (unless less than 5 experience counters and bouncing to your hand and recasting) otherwise it comes into play at your end step and sac and your opponents end step...

I like Meren and currently have a Meren EDH deck, but I’ve honestly never seen a game be won using Meren. I once watched every RUclips video I could find where Meren was played, and most of the the gameplay was slow for Meren players. I’m interested in seeing if anyone has had better luck?
Absolutely Meren built with low mana curves can slap and move so fast it’s crazy
Yea i’ve won with it. It depends on how a player runs it. Some ppl playing it combo style which is slower but still effective. I play it more ETB style and use them to ramp, as removal style and it can be use aristocraty too or infect So its a very versatile commander for you

i know you focus on budget. but as an upgrade for this deck, where do you stand on Blightsteel and maybe some hastey boots? ;)
I have a combo deck with meren, with survival of the fittest and necropotence stuff like that and omg its so deadly. But I find infect to not be that viable fpr multiplayer as your dealing with multiple opponents and once they see infect your probably going to be the first to die one v one is a different story though
TCG Player never actually has all the cards in stock, or that comes in one package. I don’t really want to have to open 5 separate packages

Kind of disappointed by this deck tech. This doesn't feel like a Meren deck, very little use of the commander's effect. You could swap it out for just about any Golgari commander and it would be pretty well the same. Hell, some might even be better, again just changing the commander. Doesn't really make it feel like an "Omega Level commander"
A Meren deck should have more focus on letting your stuff die to get experience counters and bring back stuff. Let it act like half of a tutor, with a lot of ways to kill your own stuff to ramp up your experience counters while getting high cost cards into the graveyard to cheat them out. It should be full of death triggers, sacrifice outlets, and even ETBs.
Your Golden Pig kind of fits that, being a mid to high cost that sacs itself, letting you rack up experience counters and just revive it for free. And ironically, it works better for that and for an infect deck, since as comments point out, it sacs itself at the beginning of the end step, not *your* end step, so it comes back, your opponent gets a turn, then its gone. Great for getting deaths for experience counters, triggering death effects and anything that triggers when something else enters the battlefield, but worthless for infect with this combo. Ichor Rats works better there. ETB gives a poison counter, attack with it to give another or get it killed, dump it with a sac outlet if it lived, bring it back with Meren to give everyone more counters. Yeah, it includes you, but if its an infect deck, you can give more other ways, and it might get through sometimes as well.
All in all, pretty disappointed by this deck tech. But it does give me ideas for my own Meren deck, one that actually makes use of bringing things back and maybe also experience counters.
Is that what a Meren deck should have more focus on?
