I myself did walk- ins for 10 years and YES it did take a toll on me working day in and day out after so many years. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit I was FORCED to go mobile and ONLY by appointments and I LOVE IT. Not only im making more money now but I have a life and I gained new customers because how I do things that fit their needs but at the same time I did loose a few of my old customers. Overall I'm doing better now than what I was when I was working in a shop and this pandemic SHOWED me that mobile appointments are the way to go!
Well done Sir
Same here. I’m doing less people by doing appointments, but my stress levels are sooo much better!
So you don't do haircuts in the shop now? You work for an App? How does mobile barber work? I'm curious because I'm not a barber but I have been doing haircuts for many years for friends and family.
My barber does everything walks ins mobile and scheduled hes always super packed and charges $65 a cut he is 100% worth it beat barber i got ever d styles madison and oak park zackthebarber recommend 10/10
When you decided to go mobile. Did you decide to have a mobile shop or to just go to customers an unpack and setup to cut? What was your starting price point for being mobile?
To top it off, some customers come in with photoshpped picture, and get upset that it looks different. Photoshop or not, you cannot duplicate a photo entirely
Bahahaha
Sendem down da road, Drew !!!!!!
U dont nee them bustin ur balls .
Just an Old Cat

Oh yeah I had to once since the cat was roided jacked
You are a real dude you can tell you’re honest ✅
Lost my job due to covid last year, I have a mortgage, 2 kids & a Fiance, started barbering after getting my license in April........im prepared for the struggle, best thing I've ever chosen to do career wise.
Did you have experience before starting ?
@@jayy2hott557 Used to cut a few friends hair before I got my NVQ2 & 3 .....5 months in a shop gaining valuable experience, looking to find somewhere with better footfall after Xmas.
Respect for that jump , im now 36 and tire of my desk job , really Thinking about making this jump and sign up for school . Scary lol
@@rossnoakes606 how are you doing now
@@alexmyhas I've gone mobile, I have a client list of 30 or so people that I cut when its convenient for me.
im now doing Forestry & vegetation full time now bro, the industry where I live is so over saturated & needed to provide for my family.
One day I’ll be known for my hairstyles 💇♂️
I believe in you homie 🤙🏼😎
I have been a hairdresser for 15 years. Took a year off from burn out and am thinking of going into bartering. EVERYTHING you said was spot on. I was very busy and successful but I started becoming resentful after becoming a slave to the shop. I love your honesty.
Love this video. People don’t focus on the reality of barbering and I appreciate you sharing it 💯
Been and currently a CDL driver for 10 years. Starting barber school In the fall. Can’t wait to see where that adventure goes
Go offfff 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 shout out to you for putting life changing information on this platform 🎊🎉
I take appointments, My shop is very busy and i cannot manage standing from start to stop anymore. My biggest thing now after many years, is realizing that your the barber for some people and some people should head on down the road, either they fit the shop or they don't, ...I'm sure you other barbers get this part, i can spend my time cutting my clients that seem to like the shop the haircut the vibe, or the guy that comes in with bad energy condescending narcissist type and is like a dark cloud every time he comes in... I now fill my shop with people who like the shop the haircut and the vibe, so its not personal against them, there is a Barber for everyone!, I may not be the barber for them, and that's a good thing!, great for me and them...
You’re explaining work in general I think, not just being a barber or the industry.
I was expecting something like if you can’t take bad breath from clients or a boogie sticking out of his nose while you shave him etc.
Correct but I can only speak about what I do, and that’s barbering. I’m sure it could be the same with others jobs, but I wouldn’t know
@@DavidFalla of course sir, much respect ✊
Yea any job you will put in hours
People think a barber yeah that's easy all you do is to cut hair
But every mf one of them they cant even work 2 days in a row in the shop
30 minutes a cut
10 hours every day
1 break in the day (30 minutes)
Clean the floor between cuts
Clean your tools
Talk to every different type of client
Find a theme to discuss that may be interesting to them
Be good with clients you might not like
Change shoes every 6 months cause they are destroyed by hair
Prepare to have cutted hair everywhere clothes car home in shoes when u eat
Nailed on you fucking fingers
And many more
But barbers out there remember our best client is ourselves
We have to protect ourselves our back or legs we are not robots our magic hands need some break we need some days off we deserve them !!!
Eyeopening! Im not afraid, I gulped a bit but that's just what it takes to do something you like doing.. its a sacrifice but worth it ...
Very well said
Sadly there is no more 9 to 5 at least in california..they want your whole life in that danm building!!
Facts tho, I'm trying to grind as much as I can as a 15 year old, keep inspiring us as young barbers 💯🙏🏽
If I may ask, how did you start becoming a barber? Like how did you learn everything especially since your in highschool
@@nibbax7772 RUclips, enrolling in academies and simply practicing on my brother, friends and just expanding to more people! Just never stop learning, there are plenty of resources out there!
You ve become a barber now?
@@8ihe Yes
I think there is one thing you missed. You need to have an extreme passion for cutting hair. It's very hard to stay motivated if you don't have a passion or a love for it. Before I became a cosmetologist/ Barber, I was a violin teacher and orchestra member. I have a extreme passion for teaching kids to play violin and performing. I eventually want to teach barbering. You have to have a goal in mind before you become a barber.
Great video David , I’m grateful for it because I’m starting my new journey into this so this is really helpful , keep up the channel !!! Great work 🙏🏼
U a 100% right about people thinking being a barber is easy. I started cutting my family’s hair during quarantine and now a couple of friends and shits not easy. but it’s fun to see the progress and always looking To learning to get better.
Way to keep it real and honest. A lot of ppl miss those aspects when diving into it. Preciate ya putting it out there
David I have to thank you for making this video because this was one of two video that confirmed to me that I should become a licensed barber. I watched this video back in the summer of 2021, graduated barber school in July of 2022 in Texas, and now I’m working at a shop in Florida. Thank you!
Yo bro whats up
I have question im in iraq so i think we have some deffreint clippers guids cuz my teacher has a guids 0 but its 1.5 mm my question is i follow the number or the mm??
# of guard is a US thing. Easiest conversion is Oster blades. They have both. MM is shorter for sure!! 2 is 1A or 1.5 on Oster. Runs shorter.
whats the pros and cons of being a barber. im 42 and doing a new career. i dont want go back and do lot schooling and dont like construction work
Great question.
Have Same Question!!
Many Barbers and Cosmetologist, their former trade was construction. When attending Barbering School, one of my peers left Construction to become a Barber. I've worked with multiple Cosmetologists- prior Construction. Some still do construction as a side hustle, hair 3 days a week/ construction 2-3.
I've been a Cosmetologist for over 28 years, Barber for 5.5 years. Most of us have a side hustle.
Most shops in my area are 10 to 5 or 10 to 6. That’s an 8 hour job. Most people who don’t have a career will do anything to have a schedule like that.
I understand that but if you are trying to bring home 2 - 3k a week then you are gonna have to work more than 8 hours a day. It’s all about how much you want to make and how much are you willing to work
@@DavidFalla Gotchu. What state are you in?
NJ
@@DavidFalla how much do you calculate you would make just working the regular hours?
@@DavidFalla so for me, comparing my situation which is making $650 a week at a hard labor job I’m easily pleased if I can make only $650 a week doing my passion and still have free time outside of a 10am-5pm days. I don’t need 2-3k a week to be content so would this be a different situation for me?
Im 18 and idk what to do with my life so im looking into careers and i was considering being a barber. Im still young so i want to find my passion yunno and tbh idk if i should try it.
Do it as a hobby first bro
Or learn about it. I just went to trade school. You learn quick
the barberschool told me after 6 month schooling should be able land a job and cut on your own
Thank you so much for knowledge and insight of authenticity of your experience. You are my mentor who i looked up too.
excellent brotha , good feed back and I totally agree with everything you had to say , stay blessed !
I really enjoyed your video. It was very insightful and you answered the questions that were in my mind, specifically about retirement and health benefits. I’m not a barber, but I picked up cutting hair while in the military and it was something I wanted to do when I retired from active duty. However, I ended up getting a government job that offers those benefits. It’s not the job I want to do long term. I want to eventually move in to something I really enjoy and barbering is something I really enjoy. God bless.
Yo, you really were truthful.. and I appreciate your total honesty. You really helped me out with my decision-making process. I think that other successful owners should be open and honest like you did.. Dee
I think all these points is any industry bro even gardeners go through everything you said.
My thing is coming out of school to a pandemic and trying to stay in the industry full time is very difficult with this being a service that we provide and are generally independent to, we as barbers contribute to keep the shop doors open, even if that cuts into our own personal budget.
That is so true!!!... Can you make more videos like this? I work in a salon that is hourly pay but I would like to rent a chair. I just feel that I'm not ready yet to do so.
Wait how much do you make in an hour?
Hi sir , am Aime Prince from Ghana and am a barber I really really appreciate everything you said on the video it’s really opened my eyes on some little stuffs I didn’t know about being a barber 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Never knew about the editing part wow
Hey Im looking for a little barber wisdom. Almost all new barbers fresh out a school are normally young but me at 55 Im thinking about going to barber school. As a multi shop owner what is your opinion on that. Im reaching out to others trying to get a feel for the culture and newby old man barber. So anything you care to share will be gratlly appreciated. @@CappuccinoTX there are "few" i mean in we have 95% oriental barbershops thats not to me like 15$ haircuts in 5 minutes. and in whole germany are 2 barbershops like in the usa but you dont get so much money maybe for the living
and to open a own barbershop you have to do 3 years of hairdressing and coloration with girls then a master course and then you have permission but there are no barber courses like in usa lmao 🥵

Just gotta have the passion for it so this is not true for some people 💯
The 1st one that’s why you add different types of services so you don’t have to work as much and also sell products
Exactly, unfortunately not everyone is skilled to offer other services. However, you are completely right
Good content 🙏🏼
Can you make a good video of how to change the blades of the clippers short consiso lease

Hello i like your channel and i like what you do
I just need your advice I have got a chance to open my barbershop where there are 20 barbershops and i am a new barber i have just done a 2 months course and I have done about 70 haircuts. This shop is ready to open i just have to pay the rent and the bills, and I don’t feel confident enough to be alone. Is it good opportunity, or i have to get more practice before opening my own barbershop?
If you have the chance f
Go for it
this is a reality, I am planning to work as a barber here in the USA. I used to do that my whole life in my country. it is no peace of cake l like to do haircut, and l think I don not want to be slaver for no reason. the barbershop i go to closes at 6pm so why would the barbers be working after that . maybe at most half hour more
After hour haircuts cost 2-3 times the prices. 💰
@@DavidFalla do you need to have a good memory to be a barber? i have ahard time memorizing steps more than 5 steps . i got a mild learning disability. i can learn adobe software but step by step kind thing sometimes skips a step since i forgot it
@@calvinraldajo8565 no just write it down and practice, it becomes more natural until you can just look at where you're at and you automatically know what to do
@@calvinraldajo8565 fuck no lol. Honestly bro just keep trying to step until you feel one works for you but if you’re under 1 year cutting than that’s normal. This shit takes years to get REALLY good so take your time with it and focus on the quality
Set a routine. Less likely to forget.
I forget many things, but can still cut hair😄
What are you asking
The people and being stuck in a shoe box all day doing the same three cuts. I quit after after 10 years. I started a landscaping business 3 years ago. First year turning a profit. Work is harder but it’s different and I’m outside

Idk man. i want to become a barber but in Illinois you need 1,500 hours of training and barber school costs minimum $6,000.
Here in jersey is 1,200 hours and 20k so you are getting a deal
Come to NC. Its like 2500
It's worth it!! Plus you get more education with those kind of hours. And make it back quick!! I made $22k my first year 1998.
Heard Cosmetology is around 20k now. I paid $8500k in 1996!!
Then I paid 3k for 150 hours for a Barbering endorsement in 2019. 1950 hours total. I've paid way more on continuing education for the past 28 years. Money well spent
