"Tahlia you don't want a normal life, go out in the world, travel, share your talent" that really touched me, here she is sharing with us. I honestly appreciate her talent, she is a true artist
My teenage daughter took me to see FKA at The Fox in Oakland, CA on 11/6/19 . I snuck out before the show ended to buy the Magdalene vinyl record for her, and somehow unknowingly ended up to be the first in line for Twigs to sign the merch after the show! So, there I was suddenly face-to-face with Twigs and completely speechless. She was so sweet and she had this intense gaze that just says, “I see you”. My daughter and I still laugh about the experience and let me tell you...TWIGS WAS THE BEST F**KING SHOW I’VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE!!!!!! And I have been to tons of concerts at my ripe old age of 50. :-)
God, this just hit me so hard: “When I realized that so many other women have gone through what I've gone through, unfortunately, which is that part of being a woman, that kind of free emotional labor that we put into all of our relationships, that unpaid work of nurturing, and it’s something that we’re just taught. I come from a generation where, as a woman, I was taught that ‘your Prince Charming would choose you, and when he did, you were grateful’. And it was more about you being chosen than what you need.”
She must be a great listener. She has such a calming aura and seems like she knows it. I love the mysterious confidence she has, a true and inspiring performer, what a time to be alive 🖤
Math was never my strong suit. I want to see her in concert, but I think I’m allowing my blindness to prevent that. I want to purchase tickets. I have mostly lint my pockets. one of three options. 1. Pay for a person to assist for that day (a PCA) personal care attendant to attend. 2. Going alone, trusting a Lyft driver, trusting strangers to (in many ways) guide me, trusting.... and hoping the visual aspects of the show won’t be completely lost to me. OR (non) option number 3. Stay home and sulk... lol This has been two of the hardest years of my existence - needed the reminder to push through.
This is the MOST beautiful interview ever. Wow! as a young woman in my mid 20s, she spoke to every single aspect of my soul. I feel touched and seem in a very good way.
I feel like every young woman should watch this. I feel so empowered to just be me and choose what i need and not care. She's so chill and in tune with herself. Shout out to her mum for being such a great influence of independence and curiosity!
Not usually a fan of Twig's kind of music (Abstract/Avant-garde etc), I liked Two weeks, but just hadn't really listened to her much. Then I listened to Magdalene and I was just blown away by how raw and visceral the songs are. Fallen angel...WOW just incredible. Cellophane, when that final booming 'Didn't I do it for you' is just INCREDIBLE. Sad day... so brilliant. Anyway, FKA Twigs has a brand new fan in me. A true artist. Her Joules Holland performance of Mary Magdalene was fucking amazing incredible- when she started her sword choreography, I was just blown away. Legend in the making
Fluently Fletch. You may not have enjoyed her music at first but you still stuck around to see her latest work. I totally felt/been through how you feel !!
She's so special. Such a beautiful soul. I'm so glad her mother was a mother and natured and appreciated her talent at such a young age. It's just so beautiful. Genuinely as a person I'm jealous because I never got that from my parents and never will but also as a person I'm so happy for her and it brings me so much joy that she has the platform she does now. Such a special, authentic artist.
You're special. I'm happy she's here too and that you said this. Watching this interview gives me hope as an artist that I can understand my own process through art I've made.
It makes me uncomfortable at times (not really here in this interview). Sometimes I feel like he’s mansplaining, but I might just be flexing my own baggage here
@@galeforce579 I noticed too. It's like a forced empathy kinda thing where he describes someone else's internal state as if it were true. It's not wildly inappropriate but he could also phrase it as a question to let twigs answer on her own. I guess it builds intimacy but has the risk factor of being off. He must trust his intuition a lot.
Deatrix yeah it’s definitely interesting, I find he sometimes asks questions that would definitely irk me if I was the one being interviewed. I guess he has somewhat of a relationship with the people he interviews and would know how to approach questions, still a strange dynamic
I love how she thinks. No matter who my fav artist is or what my favorite top 40 song may be. Fka will always be my top artist. Her and Tinashe are gems
she's so beautiful and gentle, I could cry. I've never seen her aside from in photos and magazines, but seeing her facial expressions and listening to her speak, i'm literally in love. how can the interviewer look her in the eye and not melt
Zane is a true master at interviewing. It always feels like a genuine conversation. He's gifted at extracting information and reframing when needed. Much respect!!
Idk he does a lot of "blahblahblah it's like this, right?" Which is awkward, sometimes it seems like they agree such to keep it from being awkward, or they say, "oh no actually it's like this". I enjoy it overall, and it is more conversational but idk just saying some thoughts really
twigs is absolutely breathtaking, inside and out. So enigmatic yet transparent and honest at the same time. She’s such an inimitable soul. She is a walking art form.
Matthew Poole it really does ! Makes me think about how in a relationship we imbibe the experiences together that when we lose the relationship then we need to relearn ourselves
am i the only one that likes how in the beginning she was shy and quiet but when she gets comfortable with the person she's talking to, she started talking more and you can hear how she raised her voice volume. *i love that*
I always looked up to her and Tinashe. FKA is so soft spoken and strong, beautiful and unique, muscles and graceful, different and soothing. both of them are so empowering to me as female figures who are strong and talented and femme.
this is an amazing interview, the flow is great and you let her sort of guide the conversation by inquiring about whatever she’s on about, we love to hear what’s going on in her mind and it makes for an interesting and truthful interview. Thank you thank you

For anyone wondering (like i was) if the FKA stands for Formerly Known As, she says it doesnt. She had to change Twigs due to a band already using the name. She says she wanted a few strong sounding capital letters preceding twigs and FKA just worked. It could have been FK1 or AFK but she just liked FKA for whatever reason. Anyway, she's beautiful and talented. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
That was a truly inspirational interview. The softness and delicateness but also the strength that she shared was so enduring and something to be celebrated. So thankful I was able to witness that and all of her beauty especially through her music, I feel lucky to be able to intertwine those thoughts and words that she expressed so beautifully and openly into my views about life and art.
The dedication she puts in her art is unbelievable and inspiring. You can tell how much work she puts into a performance to make it perfectly fits her vision. From her vocals, to attires, to her movements and even dancers poses. And considering her underprivileged upbringing makes her even more admirable.

To think I discovered FKA Tiwgs through her pole dancing videos, not music... and then to catch up her library, from then to now... her growth, talent, and creativity are untouchable. She is art.
What a beautiful person. So grateful for those true artists that give all they’ve got to make the world more beautiful even when it’s sad, and utterly evolutionary. Brilliant woman. really.
