Very nice, but a tad westernised. Steady beats in each section. How about trying to play over the tablas playing a classical Indian piece that speeds up and slows down.
@@RikardPeterson Maybe I should’ve written playing “with” tablas that, in the classical tradition speed up and slow down, rather than the western tradition where accelerando is rare
If you've seen the live shows they're doing, you'll see they're playing songs by each member, which challenges all players to accommodate the style of the tune. There's a nice balance in the performances which will surely show up in the studio release.
@@juliaingeorgia unfortunately I have not heard the concerts on which this video is a studio version. The accommodation of which you write is not often apparent in this piece, though it is not entirely absent. However, I recently recorded eight pieces with Mohammed Nazir Lateef, and keeping time with a tabla player who was keeping strictly to his tradition, was fiendishly difficult, and not always as successful as this piece which, as I began commenting, is rather western in its overall form
'Westernized'? Did the song 'Motion' start life as something other than Western? Bella Fleck and Edgar Meyer are North American, and they are at least 50% of the influences. So it's not surprising that the music sounds a bit Western. But your idea sounds good. I'd like to hear it, anyway. In the end, you have to accept what you're given or produce for yourself what you want.
RIP Ustad❤

Nobody is playing *over* anyone here. They're playing *together*.
