I am an Indian who stayed in Kenya for around seven years before moving back here. The racism against Africans in India is superficial for the most part (doesn’t make it less hostile/unpleasant if you’re sensitive to being other-ed in any way) But in the Delhi region, there’s a significant African diaspora (mostly Nigerian I think) that has a bad reputation for being involved in some illegal trades (with some Indian collaborators of course). That has an unfortunate impact on how Africans are perceived by people who don’t know that Africans are a kind, well meaning and affectionate people.
In my experience they do face racism a lot here which is sad. I try to be friendly to them but they keep their distance maybe due to their bad past experience here.

As far as language barrier is concerned, where were you studying? English is a complicated thing in India. A lot of north Indian schools/colleges (and most Indian RUclips channels) teach in Hinglish (Hindi + English), where they verbally explain in Hinglish (a mixture of English and Hindi words) but write in English on the board. People from Hindi fluent-English weak backgrounds prefer to study that way but it is not my preference at all (and I'm a minority). If you study in proper English language schools in cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Coimbatore, Bengaluru, Kochi, Visakhapatnam etc., education is imparted in English, both verbally and writing wise (I think this would be true for some north Indian cities too). I'm assuming you should also find schools/colleges in Delhi, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Chandigarh etc. that do the same. You need to ask around and find out which schools those are. I know for SURE there are schools and colleges like that in the South (because I studied in them), but I'm not exactly sure about how it is in the north. A lot of Indian folk (irrespective of which part of the country they come from: north, south, east or west) tend to feel very inferiority complexed even around other Indian people who speak the language fluently and resort to calling us all sorts of nasty names out of bitterness and insecurity or they justify/rationalise their poor English fluency under the garb of "pride and nationalism" or talk of "colonial mentality" to protect their ego rather than put in effort to improve it (this is actually also the case with people in several other countries too, including countries in Africa ). Some people genuinely want to improve their English but may face mockery and ridicule from their peers for doing so which just perpetuates the cycle of anti-English hatred. Of course, people can speak whatever they want and I have no problem with the language preferences of people who have no problem with those of us who speak English. But there are many people who do have a problem with it. My entire channel deals with that. Some people aspire to learn the language, others remain haters till they're dead. Even in the South, most people speak southern Indian languages like Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam etc. and overall English proficiency is still poor, but overall, I think there's relatively a lot more English here than there and you aren't ostracised AS much for it. In the southern states' cities (Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad mostly, but also Visakhapatnam, Coimbatore, Kochi) you will be able to find a school which teaches in fluent English (both verbally and in written form), colleges which do the same, apartment complexes with plenty of English speakers and a group of people to be friends with who are the same. The ability to speak fluent English in India is fairly highly correlated with wealth and urban living. Colleges which have students coming in from those demographics teach in English. Others teach in pidgin. You need to ask around, find out what is what before joining schools, colleges or finding homes here. Watch out for schools and colleges which advertise themselves as "English medium" but are actually "Hinglish medium" (or some variant of vernacular+English) where neither the teachers nor students can speak or write fluent English. As far as racism, trust me, us Indians have a lot of "isms" even amongst ourselves (as do Africans I'm sure). It can be a bumpy ride for people of one state to live/work in another state (especially when you don't speak the language of that state). @@JonathanMasinire Not really. It does not stop Indians from dealing with others or doing business with others. Its restricted to private socializing and that is common all over the world. yes, plenty of Indians hate each other. There are caste system divisions and the north versus south. i can say one thing.... we generally call people with names and could be "kalu" ( black), "motu" (fat) and many such names... which in India is normal and people dont really get offended easily.... but this racism term is western where little things might offend people toooo much to start an argument or could even escalate to fight bcz mostly people there dont really like to get socialize which is completely opposite here... people here with one or two conversation can become really good friends and they socialize with others very easily... so basically when we name people its actually very normal.. yess even here people do get offended and many people do say words to hurt others... but mostly its not the case... its friendly thing to give names... my colleagues call me "motu" they are just colleagues not friends but still it never offended me i take it in funny way and we just laugh it out thats how we socialize. but m sure thats not the case in western countries..
We indians are very curious and obviously racist but not in a bad way. Let me tell you, we may call someone "kalu" or "chinese" for fun but we actually don't mean to hurt anybody. Yet we don't realise that the person can get hurt or feel bad. Forget foreigners, we are racists among ourselves. But we have no accountability of that.😂 I look like nepali/chinese/south-east asian, my college friends used to call me "Thapa", which is a Nepali surname. yeah! Some of them didn't know my actual name, Even today i known as "Thapa" in my locality, where i used to live. 😂 One friend had an eye injury when he was a kid, we used to call him "Kana". 😂 Neither he or I ever felt bad about this, we were cool about it. We are the first of the generation to address "racism". Dont worry It'll take few more years to completely get rid of racism. ❤❤
I understand why these people are not happy with food because they are having it in hostels. If im right that i would like to say to my African friends that please dont generalize the Indian food on basis of hostel food. Please try to make friends and try home food that would be amazing. Even we dont like hostel food. Correct me if im wrong. 😊
Technically for me, I live in Patiala from Punjabi University, Patiala. The thing is they themselves don't know they're racist. Like the boys are easy to roll with but the girls sometimes are shy and scared but if you don't understand them you might think they're racist. Like when I first got here and even now not everyone wanna sit with me in class. Not that they're racist but there's this cultural shock wherein sitting close to a boy sounds uncomfortable to them. But seriously if you try to interact with them you'll know the difference between racism, shyness and societal pressure. For me, I interact a lot in my department and every student in my department is fond of me. But some especially girls finds it difficult to sit with me except those I have a very close and tight relationship with. Like girls in Patiala finds it hard to even date an African don't know why but am still researching. The thing the crush on you is there but you'll experience something is holding her back and that's what I wanna know. In general, all race thinks the African descent is inferior. Especially in India there's a certain caste called Dalit which is the lowest class and most of them are dark skinned, dude, these people (Dalit) are not respected in anyway whether rich or poor. Infact they're mostly associated with poverty, uncleanness just think everything unfortunate. And the rural areas of India especially Northern India still practices these beliefs. So Africans, don't feel disturbed if you're mistaken for them. Like there's a girl that doesn't even want me to torch her. Screw her and her family. 😂😂😂😂 😂😂😂😂😂 Like in Punjabi University Patiala, there's an experiment I have done so many times in Bhai Kahn Singh Library, Indian girls don't sit close to an African, except there's no seat but If even there's no seat some would prefer to just go elsewhere. Or if she comes first to that sitting premise and you joined later you'll experience she's seriously not comfortable. The only girls that'll sit close to you will be your close friends who feel comfortable with you. Boys honestly don't care whom they sit with. So technically now i find my usual corner. 😂😂😂
Why you guys are so obsessed about dating other nationality girl if they don't want you and want nothing to do with you just study here and go to your respective country this is not America here your black card would not work don't try to play it here and if someone is not bothering you or not disturbing than you should just focus on yourself stop trying to date girls here
And. Thanks for not misunderstanding it but do here respect for others means no discrimination or not harming someone in any way and respecting him respect here doesn't equate to sleeping with them
Siddi Africans are in india since 700 CE. Some Africans came with Portuguese and Britain. Black African heritage people are the most spread out after Europeans perhaps??Afro-Brazilians make up 91 million followed by Afro-American that number around 47.9 million. Add Africans in Europe, Australia, Canada, South America, Asia, Caribbean and their number rises to about 150 to 200 million globally. 1 Reply

This is a very detailed response, thank you for sharing 💯
OUR PARTIES GO CRAZY‼️🇮🇳🦾💯💯🇮🇳🇮🇳
Even as a Indian I face racism from my fellow state citizens so I think story in regards to racism is same for Indians and Non Indians at the end of the day.
Is there a particular reason why fellow Indians would be racist to you?
I agree, by their own definition of "racism" pretty much all Indians face "racism" while growing up and even when working.
unfortunately
@@JonathanMasinire Not really. It does not stop Indians from dealing with others or doing business with others. Its restricted to private socializing and that is common all over the world.
All over the world, people only socialize with "Their kind", whatever that might be.
Even public socializing during events like Ganesh Chaturti or Garbha is not affected by this "racism".
yes, plenty of Indians hate each other. There are caste system divisions and the north versus south. Indian men can be cruel to other indian women , especially if they have no education and are in the villages.
Muslims tease Hindus and play the victim card.
Colorism is big in India. the fair skinned indians think and act as though they are superior to the darker and tanned Indians.
some of my relatives, are extremely racist and hate other darker Indians. I can’t stand them and so I stopped talking to those people. I don’t care if they’re related to me or not.
Welcome my dear african brothers and sisters india is our second home ❤💖💜🇮🇳
You don't have to have spicy tea. I am lndian, l never have spicy tea. I have tea with no sugar and little milk. In India, each and every region has different food habits. You can't generalise.
Whisky and rum here are like 43-50% Alcohol. strong beer 7-12% . light beer 5-7% .
Thanks for watching !
Bro. Every Humans are racist. Someone faced racism by their race, skin colour, place they belongs to etc.
So, moral of the story ignore them andtry not to do racism by urself 😊
Yes it’s unfortunate, have you ever been treated poorly because of your appearance?
@@shyemusa i faced racism by place of birth not by appearance bcz most of the indian look like me 🙃thats why they discriminate me on the basis of place of birth. But, i have experienced nice people too🙌so, it's better to ignore racist people 💁♂️.
@@mayankiitr524 Seems like discrimination not racism.
@@shyemusaI think everyone has
i can say one thing.... we generally call people with names and could be "kalu" ( black), "motu" (fat) and many such names... which in India is normal and people dont really get offended easily.... but this racism term is western where little things might offend people toooo much to start an argument or could even escalate to fight bcz mostly people there dont really like to get socialize which is completely opposite here... people here with one or two conversation can become really good friends and they socialize with others very easily... so basically when we name people its actually very normal.. yess even here people do get offended and many people do say words to hurt others... but mostly its not the case... its friendly thing to give names... my colleagues call me "motu" they are just colleagues not friends but still it never offended me i take it in funny way and we just laugh it out thats how we socialize. but m sure thats not the case in western countries..
Is it in delhi or mumbai?
This is Chandigarh
I don't understand why they study in Chandigarh rather than in States with the highest literacy rates
What school is this i wanna go
Chandigarh University
In which city you study in??
We indians are very curious and obviously racist but not in a bad way. Let me tell you, we may call someone "kalu" or "chinese" for fun but we actually don't mean to hurt anybody. Yet we don't realise that the person can get hurt or feel bad.
Forget foreigners, we are racists among ourselves.
But we have no accountability of that.😂
I look like nepali/chinese/south-east asian, my college friends used to call me "Thapa", which is a Nepali surname. yeah! Some of them didn't know my actual name, Even today i known as "Thapa" in my locality, where i used to live. 😂
One friend had an eye injury when he was a kid, we used to call him "Kana". 😂
Neither he or I ever felt bad about this, we were cool about it.
We are the first of the generation to address "racism". Dont worry It'll take few more years to completely get rid of racism. ❤❤
Detailed response 💯 Do you have any Foreigner friends ?
@shyemusa yes
I understand why these people are not happy with food because they are having it in hostels. If im right that i would like to say to my African friends that please dont generalize the Indian food on basis of hostel food. Please try to make friends and try home food that would be amazing. Even we dont like hostel food. Correct me if im wrong. 😊
Why these people select north India instead of south India . They are using English is using most in institutions
😂😂😂😂😂
Like in Punjabi University Patiala, there's an experiment I have done so many times in Bhai Kahn Singh Library, Indian girls don't sit close to an African, except there's no seat but If even there's no seat some would prefer to just go elsewhere. Or if she comes first to that sitting premise and you joined later you'll experience she's seriously not comfortable. The only girls that'll sit close to you will be your close friends who feel comfortable with you. Boys honestly don't care whom they sit with. So technically now i find my usual corner. 😂😂😂
Why you guys are so obsessed about dating other nationality girl if they don't want you and want nothing to do with you just study here and go to your respective country this is not America here your black card would not work don't try to play it here and if someone is not bothering you or not disturbing than you should just focus on yourself stop trying to date girls here
And. Thanks for not misunderstanding it but do here respect for others means no discrimination or not harming someone in any way and respecting him respect here doesn't equate to sleeping with them
U most welcome to TN in india ..you feel better
Thank you for your response 💯
How can they be in a class with a non English speaking teacher??
Siddi Africans are in india since 700 CE. Some Africans came with Portuguese and Britain. Black African heritage people are the most spread out after Europeans perhaps??Afro-Brazilians make up 91 million followed by Afro-American that number around 47.9 million. Add Africans in Europe, Australia, Canada, South America, Asia, Caribbean and their number rises to about 150 to 200 million globally.

I feel sad for that one girl. She's like very depressed from life, she be like I don't go out, I don't see places, I don't hang around coz people are bad, I don't try outside food hostel coz hostel food is really bad and they put spices in it.
She really needs life before eduaction.
That first girl is a Nigerian 🇳🇬
As an Indian living abroad.. I understand. Sucks that they face racism. English is more common in South India I feel, racism would be less common too. South has better Universities and education as well, more jobs. But they won’t get the same nightlife..
South india and northeast india.
But , Please be open more minded about the food!
Thanks for sharing 💯
The driving here is for FAMILY😩😫
Sir i think you should be know that we Indians also face resist comment especially we who's living in south plus our skin colour and facial structure 😅😢 I am living in sindhudurg which is located goa _ Maharashtra _Karnataka border area
That’s unfortunate, check out my latest video on Casteism 👍

GO TO KERALA NOBODY IS RACIST THERE‼️💯🌴🇮🇳🦾
😂 south indians vs north indians vs east indians vs north east vs west indian...indian version of racism or lets say shitting competition... As long as the racism you are facing is mild, endure it...

Can't blame these kids! everything look on their eyes! no idea of the Indian deep root food culture! do they think our food is bad and their food ? how do they feel if the same thing to said their food!? These should try to learn apart complain on everything on foreign country!
Very much Complaining about India but these people back home at some where their native place they can't walk in public place with out gun even in day time you will lose your valuables every thing lol😂😂😂.....
Everyday you people talking about racism, fed up... you came to India for what?
May be there are in Gujarat. I feel sorry for them
Thanks for watching 💯
There is no place as welcoming as africa.so dont expect it better out there.
'There is no place as welcoming as africa' Lol what a joke. I've seen what Idi Amin did to Indians in Uganda, his supporters openly defending his actions here on RUclips and saying what his did was right, the organised hate campaign against Indians in South Africa a few years ago and Africans openly stereotyping Indians and mocking Indian street food on social media.
"I WoULDN'T RECoMMEND ANYoNE TO COmE HERE." I wonder what evil animal she's seen
Do you want to visit India?
My people watch your back....those people some just act funny
Which country are you from?
